EDM on What Stage? If Bonnaroo were to put an EDM act on What Stage at some point I'd put my money on Calvin Harris or the Pretty Lights Live Band.
Just a thought.. Ideas?
personally my guess is probably more on skrillex in like 2016
Skrillex, Deadmau5, and Calvin Harris seem like the front runners for making it happen. I don't even listen to skrilly (or either of the other two) but I hope it's him just from the bit of history he has with bonnaroo now

i think he earned the right last year to be the first

Agreed. I MIGHT check it out if he is the act who gets it, simply to see the first EDM act on the What Stage and I can listen to his stuff from time to time. But, knowing bonnaroo, they'll put him against 3 amazing acts (like his superjam) and I'll end up skipping him againnn
I love how SOPHIE is the usher walking in the background. If Roo booked SOPHIE, I wouldn't be surprised if he was dressed like Roo security or something.
So Basslights was a pretty horrible experience. Not so much because of the music, just alot of factors not really working out too well. Here's a dear diary post of my experience, don't read it if you don't want to.
So I went with my friend and his girlfriend. We started heading down Saturday around noon for what was supposed to be a 5 hour drive, but hit wall to wall traffic on I-95 and didn't make it until 9:30. So we wound up going straight from a horrible and long car ride right to the show. I heard 3 PL songs and saw Bassnectar all while exhausted from a 9 and a half hour car ride. It was not fun. Then after the show we went to the hotel and they accidentally gave us a single bed when we had booked a double. So we went to complain to the front desk and they gave us another room with a double bed. But this room smelled like something had died in there. It was horrible, you couldn't even breathe without gagging. So we complained again, and got a third room; and this one had roaches everywhere. It was a nightmare.. So then we had to drive around at 3 am trying to find a hotel with a vacancy. Finally did find a decent hotel; but the first day was just an absolute nightmare.
Tried to make day two a little better. But the friend I went with is one of those people where if one thing goes wrong; everything is ruined now and nothing can make it better. Seemed like he didn't want to do anything during the day on Sunday, so I went to the parking lot at one point to not smoke marijuana and met some random wookies. Which was alright they were pretty cool people. We had pizza delivered. Alot of other people staying at the hotel for the show joined in and it basically turned into a wookie tailgate. It was fun. My friend and his gf never left the hotel room; and when I came up about 45 min before it was time to go to the show it seemed like they were still in everything is miserable mode and resented the fact that I was not having a shitty time anymore and they were.
I wanted to get to the venue at doors to see Elliot Lipp and Chromeo. They wanted to not show up until 9 again and just see PL and Bassnectar. I told them that's fine the venue was within walking distance and I would just meet them later. But they relented and just decided to come with me. But they were just not having a good time. They hated on the openers entirely and just seemed miserable. They did start perking up a little during Pretty Lights; but it was just too little too late. I suggested after the show going to the after party where Michal Menert was playing; but they wanted to just go back to the hotel room. I decided to go back with them, just to chill for a bit, change, and then I was going to walk over the after party and let them do their own thing. But when we got back to the hotel room they said they wanted to just start heading back home immediately and drive through the night to avoid any chance of hitting traffic again. Since it was his car I had no choice and had to take off... Very fucking lame... Oh, and after we checked out and were driving for about 30 minutes, the hotel called us because he forgot his ID at the front desk. So we had to turn around. It was like nothing was going right for him felt bad haha.
Oh to top it off I caught a pretty nasty bug and have felt horrible yesterday and today. Hoping I recover in time for Disclosure tomorrow; otherwise I'm going to have to sell my ticket. But yeah, real bummer that Basslights turned out the way it did. I'm sure others had an amazing time though.

I get being pissed at them for messing up the reserved room but if those people were Inforoo members you all would have just snuggled up in that bed. Fuck finding another hotel that late.

Haha I wasn't opposed! I joked that if we had to stay there I called dibs on being in the middle. My friends girlfriend is sort of a prude and has never been to any festival except last years firefly... So she has never been to a festival haha.
They're trying to reaffirm their brand without the dude who produced their tracks, they're awful anyway.
i did like some of their sound in the early stages but over that now pretty much. and yea wasn't sure if they'd be able to retain the name being sued by him or whatever, figured i'd just throw it out there.

Yeah now it's just the two chicks and whoever their manager pays to produce their drivel. The dude started his own alias but it'll most likely fade into oblivion.
Yeah I was going to say Royksopp is the only act on that lineup I both haven't seen and would want to check out.
I'm impressed that you've seen Jamie Jones, Dixon, Prydz, Maceo Plex, Joris Voorn, Appollonia, Deep Dish, Tale of Us and Hot Since 82.
I've seen Prydz, Hot Since 82, Deep Dish, and Jamie Jones. Not really up on the other ones you mentioned. But like I said Royksopp is the only one on that lineup I both haven't seen and would want to check out. Can't pretend to like something I haven't really listened to.

I must say that Ultra lineup hits the deep and techno acts out of the park. I just can't see their general demographic shelling out $450 for Dixon or Tale of Us.

I think those kids just show up for the Ultra name alone these days. Two years ago this chick I knew went for her spring break and the only artist she even knew was Avicci.

Yeah, that's why I would avoid the main stage. The Carl Cox tent and the Live Stage tend to attract a decent crowd.

So the defense is ignorance. Got it.
I wasn't "defending" myself as I didn't feel attacked or ridiculed... I thought we were just having a conversation. Should have known better, I guess.
But hey, right foot forward; lets try to have one of those! A buddy of mine went to go see Tale of Us a while back; but I didn't go for some reason or another. What tracks by them should I check out?
I'm sure I'm just displaying my lack of knowledge on EDM, but is Bassnectar doing something new for him to be considered a "live act"? Or has Bassnectar always been considered a live act?

He's not doing anything new... I don't understand the designation there either.
