Part of the issue may have also been that it looks like Hudson Mohawke is the only one doing anything in that video whereas Lunice is just dancing/wandering around the whole time.
You just accurately described an entire TNGHT show. And I pretty much loved it.
I didn't really pay attention to the fact that it was TNGHT that was performing so I forgot that it was a two person act and didn't realize that the guy jumping around was Lunice. So it it reminded me of A-Track because he had that hype man who was bouncing around and shouting at/with the crowd the whole time (at bonnaroo at least.) And I was thinking that having that guy pumping up the crowd was a great idea and more acts should do it; though, a big reason that I support it is that it can help distinguish your shows from the million other artists that make music similar to yours (as is the case with most electronic music.) That being said Lunice acting as a hype man was the only part of that video that intrigued me because I damn sure don't/wouldn't want to go to a show to see some guy(s) play songs that they produced for hip hop artists that I'm not crazy about.
A related inquiry...
For those of you who know a fair amount about TNGHT and true DJ skill, are either of them, Lunice and Hudson Mohawke, actually talented DJ's in the classic sense of DJ-ing (like Africa Bambata or, for more currently relevant examples, A-Track or DJ Shadow)? Obviously, Hudson Mohawke is a good producer and I know a decent amount of his solo tracks and somewhat enjoy them; however, making a recorded track and producing rap songs does NOT mean you can tear up a turntable. I find that the skill level is the most important aspect of an EDM show. For me at least, because I feel that whether or not are you into a certain sub-genre of EDM, if someone can scratch and mix and has style, then you can appreciate and enjoy that aspect of the performance, if nothing else. Plus, when you see an artist (not just in EDM, but any genre) who looks like they are working even harder than you are dancing/grooving/singing along and they're putting it all out there for YOU and you can tell that making and playing this music is their passion, it makes the show a thousand times better. I apologize for that, I just can't help it. Back to my question, does Lunice have ANY skill (producing/DJ-ing/whatever) or can he only jump/dance around?
Also, can anybody tell me some skilled DJ's, like I just rambled about, because I haven't found any new edm acts in a while?
if you had the patience to get through that, I commend you.

As (almost) always, Boiler Room is hear to help. They have solo sets from both of them.
I saw TNGHT open for Disclosure in Central Park last summer. It was a fun show, Mobb Deep came out with TNGHT for a few tracks. I prefer Hudson Mohawke solo more though.
As do I. Usually, when I hear it or say it, I just think of the really big/popular acts, which I don't really enjoy (artists like: Zedd, Above & Beyond, Avicii, Guetta, and so on) that all make the similar sounding music that acts as 85% of the electronic music that is known by the GP, in the US at least..

Yeah, but earlier on you basically told us that you think Pretty Lights is just teh best evar, so your opinion is pretty suspect.

Not the best ever, but I'm a fan. You are free to like any kind of music or artist you'd like without me showering judgement on you. I'd appreciate if you'd do the same for me.

*judgment.
No but I mean, you're welcome to like whatever you like and that's super and all. But if you tell me how McDonald's is one of your favorite restaurants, you'll forgive me when I don't believe you when you then preach about how great the burgers are at Wendy's.

Fair enough. Your opinions aren't going to change mine or vice versa. So let's leave it at that =)

Thank youuuu, I didn't even think to look for boiler room sets. So while Lunice seems to have more energy than any other DJ, I'd say he's really just another trap artist, but Hudson Mohawke was veryyyyy enjoyable and quite talented.
Two things: 1. Has anybody personally seen Hudson solo and, if so, did he play a set like this? Because everybody that knows the boiler room knows that there can be an EXTREME difference between boiler room sets and regular shows (especially at big festivals like Roo.) 2. We all now know the [stage] name of the person who has danced the hardest at any boiler room set EVER... Lunice.
Iv seen Hudson solo. Like I said in the post above I prefer it over tnght. When I saw him he added in a bit of the womps to keep the crowd on their toes. But other than that it was pretty similar to the boiler set.
Sorry to flood the thread. This is my favorite Hudson track. Give it a listen, I think it's more indicative of his style than the boiler set.
Thank you so much and I also apologize to everyone for turning this thread into a TNGHT critique.
But all that doesn't matter because everyone is gonna forget about all the other electronic acts once they find out Prodigy is playing LN Which at Roo '15... It's confirmed
Saw Flume for the first time last night. It was a cool show. The coolest part about it was their were probably 5 girls to every dude there. Good times. The show itself was alright, my only complaint is he played for only a little over an hour. But I guess I have just been spoiled by DJs who play for 3-4 hours. He didn't play any What So Not material and only did one track from his album with Chet Faker. But I had fun.

Your avatar doesn't work, your sig doesn't work, and now a cat video? How are we supoosed to trust you
I had the same stuff as my sig and avatar since I made my account and when I finally went to change it a couple weeks ago, it decided to not work, perhaps I'll take the time to do it...
The second article makes it seem like he would not be bringing a new stage to festivals. ”It’s going to be a solo show; it’s not going to be at a festival or anything. It will be arena only. And it will be a ’360? show.”
