Here's your Skrillex-style superjam for next year
In a new Rolling Stone profile, Avicii says that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin will appear on the album, which isn’t really a shock. But the LP will also include Jon Bon Jovi, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, and System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian, so just take a couple of minutes and imagine how those songs are going to sound. And when you wrap your brain around all that, consider that the album may also feature what Rolling Stone calls “a reggae duet between Wyclef Jean and Matisyahu.”

Hasn't he been saying hes going to have a new setup for years now? I really wouldn't be surprised if he continues with the cube thing.
Guess I'm not sure if that's true or not, but he's been using that cube for a long time. I saw him with the cube back in 2010, which had to have been the first tour he used it on. Kinda sucked to read that he's going to be doing a 360 tour and not bring it to festivals. I will be seeing the 360 tour for sure if/when he does it.
As do I. Usually, when I hear it or say it, I just think of the really big/popular acts, which I don't really enjoy (artists like: Zedd, Above & Beyond, Avicii, Guetta, and so on) that all make the similar sounding music that acts as 85% of the electronic music that is known by the GP, in the US at least..
I just look at it as a catch-all word, like Latino. Intentionally vague, but specific enough that it refers to a certain set of genres. "Dance" is just as good but admittedly less specific.

Yeah, but I was able to navigate my way through the bleep bloop world just fine with out a "text speak" title.
Pretty excited to finally see Lemaitre tonight. I've digged them for two years and this is the first time they are ever touring the states. Hoping they blow up.

Please, you go ahead and use whatever term you feel necessary.
All I'm saying is that the word EDM came long after the genre had solidified itself into the musical timeline. Therefore I don't like that it's used as a catch all term.
But hey....it's Roo's off season. And I've got a lot of patience. I can argue this arbitrary shit all day.

I see your point, but would you rather we have separate threads for Trap, Drum and Bass, Jamtronica, Dub, Ambient, House, Ambient House, Broken Beat, Down Tempo, Trip Hop, Hardstep, Funkstep, Jazzstep, Deep House, and about a thousand other subgenres?

I was re-listening to FlyLo's Until The Quiet Comes today and liked it a lot more. Made me pretty excited for his new album. Although it'd be a repeat, I'd welcome him back to the farm any year. I also wish he was touring within 200 miles of me, but I guess that's asking too much.

a) we have in the past. b) House, Breaks, Trance, Drum n Bass. I think that's enough to separate the electronic from the EDM. And if we want to get nostalgic we can bring Hardcore into the mix. But I think all who remember that can agree that it was a ridiculous time and we didn't know any better.

My point was that the word exists to be a catch-all, such words are useful for brevity if nothing else. From what I've read "EDM" has been used since 1985.

I mean, you're wrong, but I won't hold it against you.

I should've said "electronic dance music" has been used since 1985 (with EDM merely be an abbreviation of those 3 words). It's hard to prove when a word/phrase entered the lexicon other than checking yearly editions of dictionaries, but this Wikipedia article mentions the timeline of the terminology: link
I'm guessing that you were referring to my second sentence, since you didn't reference why or in what way that I was wrong, it was more of a "nuh-uh"

From my personal experience as someone that has been involved in both underground and mainstream electronic events for over fifteen years. And I can safely say that it wasn't until the late 2000's that I started hearing the term "EDM" getting tossed around. And I was never talking about the lengthened electronic dance music term. Only EDM. And I definitely don't consider artists that did or still use turn tables and vinyl to preform. I understand that things have mostly gone digital and I understand why dj's have adapted. But, back to my original "nuh-uh" statement. Yes, using the term EDM as a catch all for everything electronic is not, in fact, correct.
