i know a lot of kanye's behavior is chalked up to mental illness, but is it possible that maybe kanye is just a huge fucking idiot. not using that as an insult, but maybe it's just like a fact that he is really, really dumb. like an incredibly stupid person, both intellectually and emotionally, but it's just hard for fans to accept because of his musical talent? and maybe for years it was hard to see it because it was masked by his bravado, charisma, and arrogance?
not making this assertion, i don't know kanye, just asking the question.
surely there are other musicians who sound like geniuses when you are listening to their music but have demonstrated themselves to be complete morons otherwise?
EDIT: and by "demonstrated themselves to be complete morons otherwise" i don't mean just holds whacky political or cultural views, but is actually unable to acquire and apply certain knowledge and skills.

I don’t think he’s dumb. I think he’s a huge asshole.

Been saying this. Imo he kinda gives a bad wrap to those with mental illnesses because it feels like its used as a crutch for all of the bad choices he makes. I get we are all different, but there are people who are far more mentally unstable than Kanye and unfortunately they don't get the privilege of using their condition as an excuse in everyday life.

Counterpoint: I have a family member with an unchecked mental illness who acts in very similar ways to this. And it’s excruciating to watch and excruciating to live through. We know what kind or person they’re capable of being with treatment but they just refuse to do it.
Mental illness is not an excuse, but it’s a reason some people act this way, no different than addiction being an illness that causes some people to behave in a destructive manner. I can’t help but have some empathy for the guy, much more so for Kim and his kids and everyone around him who has to live with this, but some for him too

sorry but I don’t think the people wandering in here to dunk on Kanye have the capability to understand a situation may not be completely black and white.

I am sorry for the pain your family member must feel. My road hasn’t been easy, and I recognize my privilege of access and support to get to the healing I’ve had since my initial symptoms. The idea of privilege means, then, that someone with as money and access that Ye has means they have all the opportunity to get better. His symptoms have been talked about for years. This also illustrates how tolerated certain “eccentric behaviors” are by fans & media, depending on gender & success. Even ill people have a responsibility to get better for all involved - us, our loved ones, and the world.

Ya I’m sorry I wasn’t trying to subtweet you, but my experience definitely shapes how I view this situation and I wanted to share

And fans are not capable of admitting, maybe he’s a terrible person.
Hype culture thrives on manic Kanye which makes it all even more exhausting. Like there are plenty out there who think the Pete posts are hilarious when in reality the dude seems to be falling apart while becoming potentially abusive. Nothing fun about that.

I think most Kanye fans would say he’s an asshole.
I mean to the point of being willing to cut him off and stop supporting him. I don't really see anyone doing that.
people listen to Michael Jackson. If you’re a good enough person to not consume anything created by problematic individuals then all power to you.
I've only done it for Ryan Adams. I couldn't even tell you what even triggered it. I haven't listened to him since. I still have all the records but they're just sitting there.

Brand New is the big one for me. went from being my favorite band of all time to unspeakable so fast.

Judging by the amount of people defending his current actions, I'm not so sure about that.
An absolute amount or relative amount? While yeah you’re always gonna see stans (and more of them, the bigger the artist) defend their person regardless, I’ve seen far, far more people condemning him.
