There's a lot of great stuff on here, but I can't avoid feeling nauseated by some of his lyrical work. I feel like the lyrics are all over the place.
Agreed; Kanye's lyrics can just be incredibly clunky sometimes. That's why I haven't cared for Kanye during the latter half of his career - I loved his lyrics on College Dropout, but I feel like lyrically that was his peak.
I think I'd like the album better if "Fade" was moved up and everything after "Wolves" was cut ("No More Parties in LA" is a good song, but I don't think it fits as well with the rest of the album). It's very good though, especially on the production level.

As someone that has never been a fan of Kanye, there's always so much hype that I at least to listen to his albums to see if anything has changed. Nothing has changed, I like 2-3 songs, just do not like Kanye as a rapper at all.

I really like all the songs save "Facts" (and I guess the intermission) in that stretch, but it's less cohesive as an album. I don't think it's bad by any means.

Okay...? As far as I know they're not officially considered bonus tracks (though some articles online call them that), and obviously I'm talking about the album, so I'm not sure what your point is.
30 Hours and Fade are actually two of my favorite songs on the album, but in terms of cohesiveness and album structure I think "Wolves" sounds like an album closer.

Absolutely. There's something very dramatic about it that makes it perfect as an album closer, a lot like "Lost in the World"/"Who Will Survive in America".
I really like that this album is a bridge to all his other albums. There's a lot of stuff that reminds me of 808s, Yeezus, and pre-808 Kanye. I think one of the top 3 or 4 things I like on this album is how he curated it. Really good usage of the production and guests on this album. He played to everyone's strengths. He wanted a Metro Boomin beat but didn't want Future so he got Desiigner on his label. Using Frank on Wolves as an outro is just perfect. Giving Chance the spotlight on the opener was really great and proved to be the right choice (might be the best part of the whole album). Most of the other guest spots are muted and not that noticeable.
I was all alone on Team #Facts from the time it came out. Happy to have some more on my squad with the new beat.
I'm torn on the thoughts of this as an 'album'. One one hand it really isn't too cohesive but the overwhelming majority of the tracks weren't meant to ever be singles. I would love to hear some of what didn't make this album. This feels like 40+ songs were made for the album and probably much more than that. I think 'I Love Kanye' is better as a pre-release G.O.O.D. Friday track to shape the discussion than it is as an album track, I see me skipping over that once I've really worn the album in. Picking a favorite song right now is so hard. I'd be fine if Ultralight Beam was 2 hours long. Wolves is creepy and dark and fucking awesome. But the whole Waves-FML-Real Friends-Wolves run is amazing. And the 30 Hours- NMPILA - Facts - Fade run is absolutely perfect good weather driving music which is how I enjoy rap the most.
The bad: Some of his lyrics in the album are unnecessary and really immature and stupid for a father and someone his age but they aren't as flagrant as Yeezus is (not making excuses). The Taylor line will shape the narrative away from what a great album this is for some and it sucks because the rest of Famous is pretty good and that line is wrong in both facts and usage. The swallow line in Wolves hurts what is an otherwise 10/10 track and that sucks too. Kanye always has guest spots on his album that looks bad at the time and in retrospect and I didn't like having Chris Brown on the album.
I expect initial reaction to be mixed but history will be very favorable on this album. This is a great, great album. Just like Yeezus, I think the production and emotion/vibe of the album is more important to how I perceive this album than the actual rapping of Kanye. I'd give it a 9.5/10. I really, really like it. The 2nd half of the album is a 10.
Oh and the viewing party in Chicago on Thursday was so fucking funny and weird. It was well worth the money. Just being in that room when everyone heard the Chance verse was more memorable than a lot of concerts. I've never been in a theater like that either, it was getting real cloudy in there.
Well said. I think one of the best things about this album is the lead up to and the spectacle of its release. It had disaster written all over it, from the wiz beef and amber rose shaming, the bill Cosby tweet, the Taylor line, the delay in its release, all the way up into his SNL performance, and in the end, none of it is that significant any more, because once again, he delivered.

I didn't realize it was still up in the air whether they were bonus or not, my b. I thought you were trying to change the album then talk about it.
After the first listen this feels like the least monumental Kanye solo album by far. I usually anticipate all of hip-hop shifting in some way after a Kanye album. I also expect 2-3 jaw-on-the-floor, huge, amazing songs that help define the album's sound. Not detecting any of that here yet.
Without any 9-10/10 songs I could never see this approaching a 9/10 as an album for me. But only one listen, so hopefully that changes.
Wtf is up with the dislike of Highlights, I love that song. Reminds me of Say You Will/Welcome to Heartbreak through a Yeezus lens. And how do you not appreciate a Ray J diss? When he gets going towards the second half of the song, it's fire.
