I don't need more social media sites. I have no problem with facebook. I don't put out info that I don't want people to know about. I use ad-blocker to hide the ads and I de-friend/unfollow any people that annoy me.
Just saw this popping up online today but don't really care about it too much yet.
The only problem I can see with it is that it is "ad free and porn friendly". They are all ready talking about special features you can buy. We'll see if it becomes a meat market or craigslist
from what I've read, the appeal is that you don't have to use your real name and it's ad-free... but they have to generate money somewhere along the way. my guess is, the really useful features will be paid. plus, I don't think they were ready for the response/publicity they've gotten. it reminds me of when Oprah used to pick small businesses as her "favorite thing" or whatever, then the crazy demand would actually put them out of business.
anyway, I agree with ITM. FB works for my purposes- to stay connected to people the way I choose. I don't post anything on there I'm not ok with my grandma seeing (which is good, since she's one of my FB friends). and I have gotten good results back by using the drop-down to remove specific ads that really annoy me. honestly, at this point I pretty much have zero expectation of privacy when it comes to internet/computer/cell phone communication.
