not coming from central new york. but from manhattan. altho im flying.
but ive been meaning to start a thread. who is in new york city? wondering who might be down for getting together and getting excited over bonnaroo over beers before june! p.s. where in central ny are you?
Any bonnaroo-ers going from central new york? Im leaving for roo from cny and am looking for the best directions... any suggestions?
went from north jersey last year and again this year. while i'm not that knowledgeable about streets inside the city, i imagine you'd want to go holland tunnel > 1/9 S > 78 W. from there take mapquest.com/randmcnally.com/google maps or whatever you use to manchester and stop when you see the massive line of cars
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

Here's a link to a Google map from NYC to Manchester, TN. Seems pretty straight-forward (78 -> 81 -> 40 -> 111 -> 70 -> 55 -> 41). There are several threads on the boards about which is the best local route to the festival. You'll have to do some digging and make your own calls on that, tho:

Nah..... NYC's just a convenient reference point. The crucial part (for anyone coming from north/east of Jersey) is to get yourself to the Garden State Parkway. From upstate NY, that means taking the NY Thruway (87) to the GSP; from CT, MA, RI, etc., that means taking 95 to the GSP. Once you're on the GSP, the Google directions are all the same - 78 -> 81, etc.

UHMM ... YEAH. sure. learn some geography. hehe.
HAHAHA oh man thats grand...where in ny are you from?
and, for my .02¢ - this was the route i took last year, pretty easy and a smooth ride once we got past the GWB...pretty much was everyone else has been saying
78w to 81s to 40w, DON'T GET ON TO 75 SOUTH stay on 40 west. keep going to [around] exit 290 (i think check map quest for sure) and get off at 111...111 turns into 70s around the town of sparta...around mcminnville 70s will start going west, you want to get on 55s...in about a half hour you will be at bonnaroo, cutting off a lot of mileage and crappy highway 24 traffic.
it sounds kinda complicated but its really easy, goes through a lot of nice tennessee back country, little or no traffic...if you look at a big road atlas youll see its pretty clear.
edit: CHECK THAT - if youre comin from Central New York State, you obviously want to avoid the GWB altogether, but the general route is the same, get through PA and get to 81s to get thru VA
hey fellow nyers, if you are coming from central or western ny you may want to look at going down through ohio on 71S, it's boring as hell (read: flat) in Ohio but it's the most direct route down.
14 hours from Rochester if I remember correctly. It wouldn't feel like bonnaroo if I didn't have that 14 hour drive back home afterwards.. on 3-4 hours of sleep.

Take it for what its worth.
Your best bet is to stop by a AAA and grab some maps. There's a few different variables in the trip, and AAA winds up giving you the best route. We left 5 hours after our friends last year. Got there an hour and a half after them. I dont even like using mapquest going locally.

Bronx love. I lived in Parkchester (off unionport) for a little over 2 years. I'd be lying if I said I didnt miss it a little.
For everyone whos departing from NY (5 boroughs, LI). I'll be posting details of my trip as Roo nears. So far it looks like we've got a rather large convoy going as it is. If anyone is a little sketchy on the directions you're MORE than welcome to figure out a meetup with us.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
