Ref Notes -voting will close when all votes are cast. depending on activity, I may close voting early at the end of Friday...or I may let it run into the weekend.
I'm going to stick with Jaz for now. I was considering changing to Surf as a little payback but I don't mind both of them moving on so a vote on Jaz has the desired effect still. Depending on how things fall I am not locked in.
Just to be clear 'most shady' is a very relative term at this point in the game. I don't have any solid feeling, but based on voting patterns in the past (confirmed by him) his vote was very surprising.
I got nothing else to go on besides things that seem to make a few others seem less shady in comparison. I gotta pick one of the five; want to see how others will react, and maybe I'll have more to go on. I'm hoping the runoff does not end with a five-way.
Totally fair point here. I rarely change my vote in the first round until forced to, or unless there is a glaringly obvious reason.
I changed my vote to make a 4 person runoff, which I felt was needed and also asked for by at least one person, maybe more. Also, I waited until minutes before the deadline to move my vote (maybe 45 minutes? Not sure, I was at a business luncheon that was mega boring when I changed my vote)
I think it was within like a minute that Jaz moved his vote and I was like "dammit!".
Anyways, just wanted to address this point, and not ignore it because it's valid. Normally I don't move votes in the first round and I can see why it would raise an eyebrow

After consulting some chicken entrails monkybunney>>jazmo for now...my vote is not entirely locked in yet. I have suspicions about 1 other person right now but they are not in the runoff. I've got chores to run so I won't be able to check this thread for the next few hours. I'm hoping some conversations ensue that might bolster or contradict my thinking. For the moment though I'm keeping my cards close to my chest.
While it's true that my vote made this into a five-way runoff, I'm not so sure about your take on my reasoning. It almost seems like you attributed part of what Sleepy said about runoff size in that exchange to my own words.
Fuck. Yea, you're totally right. Sleepy made the post about not wanting half the game involved, and then when you pushed the vote to five, I combined the both of you. I should have re-read the thread before now - especially after you pointed this out a few hours ago.
I know there's no real way to defend me being an idiot multiple times (though me fucking up the tally might be evidence for this as well), and I understand why me backtracking over an obvious mistake makes me look bad. At least all the votes I've just gained make sense to me now lol.
I'd like to hear from some other players - Tejas, Hakuna - ...and I'd like to talk less because I tend to shoot myself in the foot when I do that.
I'm wanting to hear more from the non-candidate players myself.
The biggest question in my mind is "why didn't Surf reciprocate that vote to bring Jazmo into the runoff with him?" It baffles me. But maybe I'm just not asking the right question(s)?
I'm wary of that situation, and I do like Surf and/or Jazmo advancing into a second runoff. While I definitely want to see that situation in the runoff, I don't want to see JUST that situation in the runoff.
Not sure how to best achieve that end just yet, but I'd like to hear others' thoughts along the way.

That is kind of an odd move - without more movement, we will lose the chance at a runoff. If I read the thread right, you pushed Jazmo up to 4 and took Surf down to 2. No one has three at this point.
I would like to see both of them in the next runoff, FTR.

That's where I'm stalled out at. It would tie them together, making a change to Surf from my current vote largely irrelevant.
I don't necessarily want to narrow it from five to just those two, either. It's not the only possibility, and a three-way runoff now might become informative as the game progresses.
Just caught up. Sorry, yesterday was a travel day. So reading from my last log in, Jazmo stands out the most. He is contradictory, in that he wants a bigger runoff but when he is added to it, asks why we are having a bigger runoff.
However, the stack on him and removal of surf is also concerning to me. There is 1 other player (well 2 but I have learned to give rope to one of them) that stands out to me right now, but they are not in the runoff, so Ill reserve comment.
Given the choices, I definitely think we want a three person runoff. I don't think a 4 person runoff would help us much at this point. My personal opinion is that it should be Jaz, Surf and carini.
It pains me to leave Hakuna out because he is a good liar, but we have nothing to go on and would be better served seeing more cards before looking his way.
Tejas is not as good a liar, and tends to out himself later in the game if memory serves right.
Jaz is new to me, but seems most suspicious.
Surf because he is also at the center of this and we at least have a few posts to look through.
Carini because he was the 4th one put into the pot. Almost immediately later Kdogg added a vote on Jaz. I agree with the vote on Jaz due to suspicion, but if the mafia were nervous about 2 members already being in the mix, they would want a 5th, and Jaz had a big target on his back.
Thats why I think the runoff should be Jaz, Surf and Carini.

I really don't have much to add at this point. I haven't been a townie in ages, but typically on day 1 there are a couple players I like to give the benifit of the doubt and flat out don't vote for(viking, LD, etc) and other than that I really don't care who gets voted out. It's basically a dart throw. Out of who is in this runoff, besides myself I'd consider surf closest to this description, tejas being the next closest. I haven't followed the last few games so obviously this could have changed but just my personal take. The last couple games I have played I've been flat out wrong about Tejas, he's sort of moved into my players I find really difficult to read. With all that said, I think I'd be a good target for the mafia, and I think Viking and Tejas both know that. My guess is it's pure coincidence and just initial votes, but not something I rule out. since I have been so wrong on him the last couple games, I can't see myself staying on tejas, I'm just not ready to move yet.

Just for clarification - yes, I did say I wanted a bigger runoff, my only question was specifically to kdogg because I thought he said he didn't want a big runoff but then he pushed it fives votes. But as I said earlier, I was mistaken as to who said what. At no point in this game have I wanted a smaller runoff.
I've always been a fan of bigger runoffs, and I still am. I think they allow for more discussion and more votes, which I believe benefit the town more than the mafia.

ed: removed the quote on jimmy so it would read better.
Talley looks right but you missed Viking changing to me in the vote changes section. Also JFG's vote isn't listed
The biggest question in my mind is "why didn't Surf reciprocate that vote to bring Jazmo into the runoff with him?" It baffles me. But maybe I'm just not asking the right question(s)?
This was my question.
Dammit - I was going back and forth on if I should bring this up and ultimately decided I would just leave it be.
Looks like I should have explained it.
What I was thinking was that reciprocating the vote would just lock 2 votes in for a while. I wanted the freedom to move my vote if need be and not just vote for reciprocation. I actually took him out of my options for a random vote choice when making the carini selection.
At this point I have literally zero suspicions even though Jaz is being inconsistent and KDogg is being, well, KDogg...
I feel a little uneasy with Jaz having 4 votes, it definitely makes it harder to have a 3 person runoff, which I would prefer. Like others have said I'd like a reason why monkybunney bumped Jaz to 4. However, Jazmo contradicting himself did paint a little bit of a target on himself. Especially day 1 when we have very little to go off of. I could see the mafia using that as a valid reason to vote for him though. When in reality all he could have done was combine was Sleepy & Kdoggs post. Either way we'll never know.
Moved my vote off Hakuna since I was the only one voting for him. I agree with Viking a runoff with Surf, Jaz, & Carini would tickle my fancy.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
Also, I'm stuck at work and plan on getting hammered immediately after soooo, I'll update the tally tomorrow when I wake up. I'd appreciate if someone could keep the tally up to date if things go haywire tonight . I'll double check it all tomorrow.
So we went from surfbum being in sole lead to get killed to him being 2 votes away from finding himself in the runoff. Munky voted for surfbum originally and then was the one to put out vote #4 for jazmo which put jazmo in more danger and saved surf. To me, that is the one question I would like answered.
To munky: you implied you had reasons to move from surfbum to jazmo. Would you like to share them?
Just to point out, you are saying Surf was going out without a vote. No player had ever been voted straight off Day 1 without a limited runoff unless there was a specific reason (*ie inspector coming out, personal issues, etc.) in my memory of playing this. It is interesting that you say surf was going straight out.
I am fine with surf moving ahead but why shift attention from Jazmo? Thats what I would like answered.
Did some backtracking trying to get a better hang of what's going on here. After doing so, I have a question for Sleepy:
Back in the initial vote, there was a point when it was Surf leading with two votes and everyone (except JFG) tied at one. You & I were reciprocating votes for one another, and I suggested we break the stalemate to even create a runoff.
I suggested that we each switch to a player who was voting for Surf, which was Jazmo & Munky at the time. You switched to Tejas in the initial round instead. I then switched to Jazmo.
Now for the part that's confusing me... After declining the initial offer, you switched to Jazmo in the runoff instead. What gives? You reversed yourself as to whether that situation was worthy of our switches from the initial vote to this runoff.
I can think of a reason, but I want to hear what you have to say about it. I'm kinda thinking I got played there.

This is what was bothering me when I made my original post. Sleepy was the one I had questions about. (You were the other but I have learned it is the way you play at times) You articulated exactly my issue. There is one other post he made that bothered me a bit, but I am running into a meeting and cant find it.

Was this question directed at me or someone else?
You. I saw what you posted above. It is what it is. At this point, I would rather focus on who is in the runoff and why. Then we can come back to it tomorrow.

Giving Sleepy the opportunity to respond before voting.
I find the big Jazmo lead discomforting to a degree I can't support it. At the very least, it's a roadblock to a three-way runoff at this point. I'd like more than a two-way next runoff myself.
Can't help but notice that in the initial, Sleepy spared Munky from the runoff... and once the runoff was underway, they both piled on Jazmo.
Doesn't sit right with me. I'd actually appreciate more than just Sleepy's thoughts on this.

I'm still pretty new and not following the two locked votes thing to which you have twice referred. Would you name those votes and explain why you thought they would be "locked" if you voted Jazmo?
Could help me to understand that really odd vote off yours.

Basically, I knew I was in the runoff and I wasn't going to change that. So, thinking through what would happen if we had our votes on each other going into the runoff, I thought I'd make my vote movable. More options. If Jaz and I voted for each other it would be tough to get my vote off him since his vote was still on me. That way moving my vote actually has more of an effect.
Of course, this is just a theory - and I've yet to see how it plays out, but it made sense to me at the time.
My first consideration was weather or not I should just reciprocate and call it a day. Ultimately I figured someone else would get him in the runoff anyways, because of the confusion with his posts. Either way, I get to free my vote up to move with less risk to myself

In the past, haven't you said that you believe that anyone who voted for you is mafia in your eyes, deserving a reciprocal vote? By what you just typed you thought Jazmo was sure to get votes based on inconsistencies in posting.
Why would you need to change your vote from someone you suspect to be mafia if you thought everyone else would pile on him due to suspicion regarding those inconsistencies? What would "locked" votes matter at that point? Still confused, but thanks for (semi) explaining.

At the time you made that offer, I had no firm reason to suspect either of those players over anyone else. I also found it very suspicious that you were trying to dictate which player I could and couldn't vote for. I was willing to consider other players, as even if my initial hunches were correct, I knew there were still two more out there - but I found your reasoning specious. Surf was in the lead by a single point, so therefore it was a mafia ploy to kill Surf, and I should vote for those voting for Surf? Not buying it. I wanted to see what you would do if I tried a different tack.
Then Jazmo quoted me (but claimed he was addressing you) when he mentioned pushing the runoff to five people. I pressed the issue, and his explanations weren't sitting right with me, so I shifted. I now had a reason of my own to suspect him, instead of voting because someone else said so, or because I wanted to see what would happen.
