I was wondering if to bring a tent or an EZ up or something of that nature for shelter?
If you have enough room in your vehicle, I'd recommend bringing both. The Tennessee sun is quite intense in June, and a canopy will be much more effective at keeping you cool than a tent. If you don't care for sleeping out in the open and want more privacy, it's great to have a tent in addition to the canopy. Additionally, if it rains, a tent will probably do a better job of keeping you dry than a canopy.
One thing I am starting to notice are truck top tents. They pop up easily, and you have your vehicle space guaranteed. Then use your 10x10 area for a good easy up. This seems to be a good way to go if you buy a roof top tent with a solid top, and doesn't require a ladder hanging from the side. Truck bed tents can be used as well.

If anyone's looking for a canopy, check your local Sam's Club. I picked one up at the location in Madison, WI for 35 bucks. Call your nearest location, and give them the item number in the link. It's last years model, sold for almost 200. Check here for the item number
I got a cheap one last year (they also come in many colors) at academy sports for $49 -- it's been used so many times since roo. Last year I slept under just the EZ up, but this year I'll be doing both EZ up and tent.

Those who travel from far distances too far to lug a lot of equipment, what do y'all do for shade structures/rain protection? Cross your fingers that you have nice neighbors or is there some hobo tips you can pass on? I have a tent, and the will of MacGyver, just hoping for some inspiration.

I've always wondered how flying to fests work if you don't intend to camp with friends. If you're looking for friends and ez up shade, you should check out camp inforoo

That would be great but I'll be in the volunteer camp again. (Last year I was making a much shorter journey and had my own car. Not a possibility this year.)
