I would love the ideas of more shows like this late night because I'm not into the EDM thing. Not sure about it happening though. Maybe the cave/darkside combo is as close as we get?
No chance this gets a late night. I also don't really see any reason to put him there.
Because, you jackal, every single band which may appear on the lineup requires a perfectly superfluous discussion of whether they should be "late night," complete with people who insist that they absolutely, positively must be placed there. Doesn't matter if it's an electronic act, bluegrass, metal, hip-hop...it all must be "late night."

I thought his psychedelic influences would work well with late night.

Psychedelic in a somewhat hypnogogic way. My guess would be that Sturgill's music is low-energy compared to most LN acts. One of the factors for any act that is scheduled ~1-2am is "will they keep people awake?" I would definitely want to catch Sturgill if he plays but I'd expect an afternoon/evening set.

I like the idea of Bonnaroo going outside their typical style of EDM and Superjams for latenight and moving towards some quality psych and other good stuff. However, Sturgill Simpson's psych influence is grossly over stated. He has one song on his new album that you even remotely describe as psychedelic. Putting him in a late night slot would be as wasteful as Unchained.

You would expect correctly, other slots wouldn't really work for him
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.
