Debated looking into Voodoo for another destination fest for me to get out of Chicago when the weather starts to turn but decided on Life Is Beautiful this year. I'm going with the girl and that lineup will appeal more to her but if Voodoo gets Tool and they don't tour near Chicago themselves I will never forgive myself.
I can't wait for Voodoo! Halloween is a Saturday this year, so there will be something evil/metal on the card. Maybe if AC/DC is still in the country, they could be a headliner or co-headliner, though I'm not much of a fan. Tool is my Top 1 want for Voodoo. And I'd think a rapper (Drake maybe?) will get a prominent spot. Knowing that Live Nation and Hard are now within the same corporate hierarchy, the electronica stage should continue with a pretty strong presence. I'm not sure who the 3 EDM headliners will be (was Zedd, Skrillex and Pretty Lights last year, Bassnectar, Afrojack and Calvin Harris the year prior). Those are a pretty big 6, and Bassnectar will be back in town in 3 weeks for Buku. So I don't see him back at Voodoo this year. Outside chance on Diplo/Major Lazer swinging through, but Halloween is still 8 months away.
For the day slot fillers, there's no telling who will still be running the festival circuit in 8 1/2 months. I think that will be more clear once Lollapolooza and ACL release their lineups. I think the initial Voodoo lineup comes out in June. So we're only 4 months away from some news.
After 2014's LOA experience, this is the first time in over 3 years that I did not buy LOA, I got GA. I will always go because it is always either on or around my birthday and it's Voodoo and NOLA. If they get Radiohead or Tool, I will upgrade but they better fix the LOA issues they had this year.

When is your bday? And what issues did you have?
I wanted to go last year for my bday but ended up doing something else, and something cheaper instead. Right now I've got all of this money, and Idk, I think the more festivals I can hit up, the better. Nawlins alone sounds a little intimidating though.
The only real issue that I had with LOA last year was men's bathroom trailer. They only had 1 of them instead of 2 which made it to where there was always a long ass line.

October 29.
LOA at the Ritual Stage was so much smaller than years past. Getting there early didn't mean a good view of the stage. It was almost impossible to even get into LOA backstage area for FF much less see them (luckily I have seen them several times this year). One of the LOA VIP bathrooms broke and that was a mess. There were less perks for LOA then they had in the past. The whole festival had actually declined last year as opposed to previous as well.
They used to have the Toyota tent, and you could take photos in the cars, make bracelets or headbands, and they would screenprint posters and bandanas for free, that was gone this year. Plus, some of the bands would stop by there and play a short set. Bandanas were $20 and the Posters that used to be free were $40. They only had two GA bathroom areas and they were completely hidden away. Most people didn't even know about the ones by Le Plur. They weren't enough garbage cans... lots of stupid little things like that. They only place you could get soda was at the cotton candy stand thing and the line was stupid. They did have free water for the first time ever though.
On Friday there was a 30 min line to get into LOA at noon, I heard that GA was much worse that evening (like over 2 hours to get in) but they did correct it by the next day. OH! They didn't have the schedule cards being handed out this year. You had to go to the info tent to get one, and they were chinky. I guess since I live here and go to voodoo basically every year since 1998, I was disappointed in all the downgrades they did this year. I know that the new location is a tighter fit (its larger space but due to trees less space for stages) but some of the changes when you are paying more are unacceptable. I had friends that did GA this year and they easily walked up on the rail for the artists that they wanted to see (besides FF). I can't justify spending the money on LOA this year... and they had a price hike for 2015 and 2014 had less amenities.
Truth is, I almost didn't buy Voodoo tickets at all this year.

October 30 for me!!!!!!!!! hello scorpio
Ok, you're right. That is all hard to justify....
AWWW YEAH!!! Scorpio FTW. It was a hard decision to buy a ticket this year, I think I bought my presale ticket on the last day of presale... Normally I buy the day they go on sale and get LOA. If they fix the issues from this year, I will definitely go back to LOA.
I have a hard time EVER saying no to $99 for a three day festival. Sure, the hotels are pricey in N'awlins and I have to travel to the festival, but in my mind it's always worth it. I think I've gone five times now and the top of the lineup was *always* worth the price of admission without even considering all the lower tier acts... what's more, the booking is always so radically different from other festivals, with all kinds of acts you don't see anyplace else. I never would have *paid* to see Ozzy or KISS on their own tours, but now I've seen them without having to lose out on other worthwhile acts.
Voodoo is run horribly, don't get me wrong. There are always issues with bathroooms, people moving, concessions, over-drunkenness.... but it's a blast. I love Voodoo! (Until they start charging $199, then I'm out.)
2014 - Outkast, Foos, Arctic Monkeys, Skrillex, Slayer, Rise Against, DFA 1979, Gogol Bordello, Trombone Shorty 2013 - Pearl Jam, NIN, The Cure, Calvin Harris, Bassnectar, Paramore, Macklemore, Alkaline Trio 2010 - Muse, Ozzy, Drake, MMJ, Weezer, Deadmau5, Florence + the Machine, MGMT, Interpol, Hot Chip 2009 - Eminem, KISS, Jane's Addiction, Lenny Kravitz, Black Keys, Justice, Flaming Lips, Wolfmother 2008 - NIN, REM, STP, TV on the Radio, Lil Wayne, Lupe Fiasco, Mars Volta, Sharon Jones, Cold War Kids
In Bloom Festival 3/18-3/19 Houston, Texas Rock Werchter Festival 7/5-7/8 - Werchter, Belgium Mad Cool Festival 7/12-7/14 - Madrid, Spain Austin City Limits 10/5-10/7 - Austin, Texas
I agree almost 100% with you Tom. I'd still pay $200 for it if I had to, but I think we're still 3-4 years away from that level of pricing on a pre-sale basis. But it's indeed always a blast. Voodoo is one of my favorite weekends any year, and despite the issues, it's easily my favorite festival in the city. Unfortunately I can't ever make any night shows as we probably go harder at Voodoo than anything since everyone in my family and circle just walks every day. Haha.
Edit: Rock wants: are Tool, Faith No More and Deftones; Don't wants are AC/DC, Nickelwimpy Type Rock

i havent been since 2010 (had a good time then though) mostly because money and stuff but this is always on my potential list, if ACL doesn't do much this year and this has a strong line-up im gonna consider it.
I have a strong feeling two of the headliners will be Muse and Kanye.
So now that I've had to sell my Coachella ticket this one is looking more likely (I'm a mom so I can only do so many fests a year). I had a great time last year despite some issues with their Access program but I trust that will be fixed for this year.

Key on last year was the waves and waves of people who showed up to see Outkast on Friday after leaving work or school in the middle of the afternoon. We went 11/12ish and walked right in. I was kind of surprised at how that crowd showed up in the paper. The only thing I've seen similar is Jazzfest on a day when everyone shows up at the open. Bruce last year had blocks long waits. But that may have been the most packed day ever for Jazzfest.
Speaking of Jazzfest, lots of new shows announced including Adam Deitch's birthday party with most of lettuce and Motet 2nd weekend. Also, Jazzfest headliner Wilco cancelled their following week's show in Indy due to the religious freedom (so called) bill. What I don't understand is why don't people call those right wing Christian sponsored shitty bills a promotion of Sharia Law. Because at the end of the day, not everyone is a Christian and well not every religion believes men and women should congregate together. Don't like it? Go somewhere else. It's the ultimate flipped script on the haters promoting discrimination against our fellow Americans. Why no one has accused assholes like Louisiana's own Tony Perkins of this amazes me. I can't be the only one who has thought of this.

Yeah, we didn't have a problem with waiting in line it was just that they didn't even have an Access entrance on Friday and the accessible areas at stages were BEHIND the VIP pits so a person in a wheelchair couldn't see if they tried. It was just poorly planned. Thankfully the Voodoo Access coordinator, Molly, really listed to our suggestions and made a plan to improve. She also works at Bonnaroo so she knows what a good Acces program can look like.
Nice. That should make things easier for those who need the special access. The only one I saw last year was by the back stage. If you guys do end up coming down, be sure to drop me a PM and I'll find you and your husband and buy you a drink this year.

You are right. There are actually 19 other states that have very similar laws, Louisiana is one of them. (19 states that have RFRA laws) This country has a habit of moving two steps forward and then one step backwards. But this is not the thread to discuss that...
I like your wants (FNM, Tool, Deftones) and fingers are crossed we get them.
Haha. I was proud of Wilco for taking a stand and in hater mode, so I couldn't resist.
I guess we're really only 2 and a half months or so from getting the first announcement of names. Since Go Hard on the second Saturday of Jazzfest is the "Halfway to Voodoo" EDM one-day fest (DJ Snake, Big Gigantic, Zeds Dead, etc. - which I would probably go to if I wasn't going to be out of town), that means the year is creeping up.
On the rock side, we got Foo Fighters ahead of the Sonic Highways tour, so we can rule them out. Metallica, who is playing Lolla and is rumored for some other fall festivals played in 2012, so they're probably out. AC/DC is a possibility, though I'm not much of a fan of anything after Highway to Hell. However, since you know they are going to bring something metal and/or evil on Halloween night, they are a definite possibility. Dickleback is playing Lafayette, so hopefully they aren't going to be there. If so, I'm bringing a mf'n Portugese Flag and some rocks. Red Hot Chili Peppers haven't played since 2006, so they would be a candidate for sure. Anyone else you can think of in the rock world that would likely headline?

Atmosphere is supposedly locked in already (I know not rock). I think that Van Halen with David Lee Roth is a strong possibility due to last date of tour being Oct. 2nd and no NOLA dates. There is no way that they would book Nickleback, Chili Peppers were strongly rumored last year, I could see them being booked this year. I would like to see Dead Weather, if that album actually drops this year. Also, since Modest Mouse came in 2014 and are on the festival circuit this year, they would be a great addition. Someone rumored Muse since they haven't played since 2010 and have a new album dropping this year.
I really am finger-crossing-hoping that Tool gets the album out this year and is a headliner. I have read somewhere that the album is actually coming together nicely.
I read about Dead Weather on the forum, but I don't know them so I'd have to check them out. Muse would be sweet and were kick ass at ACL 2013. They would probably also bring in some people from out of town. Van Halen would be great regardless of how out of tune DLR's voice is. I mean, am I one to be critical by the time a headliner is on stage at Voodoo? I don't think so.
Atmosphere would be cool. I missed them at Tips last November. There should be other hip hop as well based on prior years.
I wonder what Hard does for the electronic stage. With Bassnectar, Skrillex, Afrojack, Zedd, Flux Pavilion, Calvin Harris, and Pretty Lights just having played in the last 2 years, and since they like to go big for the electronic headliners, would they go grab some old Euro House stuff like Tiesto or Avicii? Neither is on my must see list, but I guess I could pass by the back for a few minutes to see some of the show even if I don't much like their styles of electronic music. Maybe Diplo/Major Lazer (which act hasn't played Voodoo in a while and are on the circuit this year)

Dead Weather is just another one of Jack White's many ventures, and the only one that I haven't seen yet. I didn't see Muse at ACL in 2013, but they were so good in 2010 at Voodoo. But it helped that it was my actual birthday, and that it was Metric, Weezer, Muse... that night was so good.
That was a surprise set for me in 2013. We went 2nd Weekend, and I hadn't really ever paid them any attention. But it was an outstanding show. So even someone like me, who knew maybe a song at most, could enjoy it. I did.
Gotcha on Dead Weather. I've seen Jack White a couple of times and the Raconteurs. I'm not his biggest fan, but I do like him enough.
My Morning Jacket is out for sure as they have been announced to be playing an outdoor set (Waterfall Tour) @ Champions Square on July 31. Interestingly, tickets are front of seated area, seated area and behind seated area. Looks like $22 - $41 (plus ticket-bastid fees). I've seen Jim James (Hangout 2013) and loved that set. If I end up digging the show at Hangout, I might consider going to see them again. I respect them, and I want to like them more. But it's going to take a really entertaining set at Hangout for me to see them again that soon.

I am glad that MMJ is out. I have seen them at Voodoo twice and Jazz fest once. There is a $4 venue charge and a $10.50 service fee on those tickets. My $41 ticket actually cost me $65.50... But I have only seen them at festivals before and not at an actual show just for them. I love them as you can tell.
I can't wait for Voodoo, the lineup was not as good as past years and I find that usually that means the next year will be fiya... so we will see.
See I thought the lineup in 2014 blew away 2013, but that's just me. I had full days of mixed genres. There isn't much touring that I haven't seen, and even though I already know Hulaween will be more my speed, I don't miss Voodoo. If they made Hulaween the week before Voodoo, I'd do both - and probably every year.

The only thing super special about last year for me was Manchester Orchestra and OutKast. I had seen basically everyone else. But its all opinions!
Cross Marilyn Manson and Smashing Pumpkins off for Voodoo as the pre-sales just went on sale for Monday July 10 at Champions Square. I haven't seen either of these bands before, so I'm pretty excited to have grabbed one for me. GA standing in the back is $25.50 (plus ticketbastid $13 fee), and there is a ton of reserved seating which is in the 60's plus fees. if anyone wants presale, PM me. Tickets otherwise on sale tomorrow.
