Huge GD fan, but Weir is awful these days. Saw him at Summercamp and was bored to tears. If that's the announcement, more dancing room for you. I'll be getting my spot for D'Angelo.
Yeah Weir is truly, truly awful, but it'll depend on his band. John Mayer can shred. I REALLY doubt that happens though - that could be a headliner.
My friends conspiracy theory: They're waiting for one of Phil or Bobby to do a core 4 show and they'd be on the which after earth wind & fire. If that falls through one of them would be doing the superjam. I would love to be able to believe the first part.

Aside from fare thee well, Phil isn't playing anywhere besides lock'n, his own club, or the capitol theater. Of there's a dead related SJ, bobby and the rhythm devils are the closest we'd get.

He got a lot of false hope after the SF dates were announced.

I saw him a year ago and he seemed pretty good to me.
I'd like to think in my head that it's some kind of Bobby/Mayer/rhythm devils/dead related superjam. Maybe the TBA slot in the Other tent (same slot the SJ is in) is bobby and Mayer acoustically or something. I'd better stop getting my hopes up.
Worried that the lack of an announcement means it's not locked down. There's not even a curator/leader announced....if it was anything impressive they would have announced by now to drive ticket sales I'd like to think....bit of a shame after last year's two great Superjams.

not to be a stickler, but there were three great Superjams last year
Bob Weir playing grateful dead songs, with john mayer or with whoever, is not a superjam. It's just the same thing that's been happening for years and years in a slightly different format.
I saw him a year ago and he seemed pretty good to me.
You'll forgive us if we don't necessarily take the endorsement of someone with a turtle playing a banjo for an avatar, and a given location of "terrapin station" as an unbiased source as to whether or not Bob Weir sucks these days.
Yeah, get him! We only take Bob Weir endorsements from people with no avatars or locations!

Guys they must have something BIG planned if its taking this long!
If they had something big planned why wouldn't they announce it with the hope it would sell more tickets? The fact it is taking so long more implies they are having issues getting it organized and getting the contracts signed

Pretty sure eastrocker's comments were sarcastic. At least I would hope so.
Has there been a superjam were the band leader was not someone already in the lineup?
Not really? Definitely not since 2006 at least.
2007 is interesting because it was Ben Harper and Questlove who were already on the line-up but the focal point was John Paul Jones who was announced with the Superjam. Not really the Superjam "leader" but the band's focus was Zeppelin songs.

Same goes for the ?uestlove superjam in 2012. D'Angelo was really the leader of that one.
Didn't they bill the Rock N Soul superjam as Jim James and John Oates (not on the lineup)?

You could say D'Angelo was that leader and they may have billed 2013 as Jim and John but if you watched the documentary, it was clearly Jim James's super jam and he just brought Oates in to help him pull it all together

Avatar Theory strikes again, for all we know, they could also be from Florida, invoking Florida Theory.

Alright ya got me on this one. I admit I'm somewhat biased on his performing ability. He did flub a few lines and his voice isn't quite what it used to be, but he played well and put on a great show, I say he's still an excellent performer.

With the lack of superjam info yet, the early and sporadic announcements, fewer bands and schedule changes this year; were they less organized this year or something? Most about the lead up to roo this year seems to have been done differently.
