Isn't Deadmau5 a press play dj? I believe I saw a while back him say when you have a show like his everything needs to be predone as there would be now way to make it all sync if you mixed live. This would make sense as to why his sets end right when you'd expect. Now that is not to say he doesn't hope on Kalliope for a bit .
As for adds. I could see them doing this 3 or 4 artists a week thing like someone else said. I can also see Porter Robinson being added and getting the Zedd spot. That would be nice.
def not a press play dj, at least imo
Yes, he is not at all a press play DJ. In fact, last year he stopped using CDJs (the controller of choice for nearly all DJs of his caliber) in exchange for a mixing board that allows his to play alongside a variety of synthesizers and other equipment. I believe he promised an even more expanded version of this for his new, major setup, which would include Bonnaroo. Like deadmau5 or not, he is on the inventive, cutting-edge of electronic music. And that is why he deservingly is the first electronic artist to headline Bonnaroo.
BTW, thanks for sharing this set! It's amazing and I'm looking forward to rewatching it again right now while I pump out the work!

The day after BLAM, he tweeted that he was designing a stage just for bonnaroo this year. I'm so excited at all the possibilities he could come up with for us.

Yuppppp! I'm going to try my damnedest to get into the pit. My 5th Bonnaroo and I've yet to make it in there.

really? hmmmm, not sure what he has planned there. i know he has the new stage for this summer (which will be premiered the week before roo at gov ball). guessing they will be the same, or maybe he's on a smaller stage at gov ball and won't have the new one there. that'd be awesome for the first use of the stage to be at Rooo!!!

i'm torn on wether i want to get into the pit and be really close, or a little further back in the middle for a viewing of the stage. i also have not been in the pit but going with somebody who has been in it this year. i just may have to go for it!!!

Probably should do it, man. Deadmau5/Main stage.... it doesn't get better than that.

Agreed. I think if you are a deadmau5 and/or electronic music fan, the pit is exactly where you'll want to be. Maybe more towards the back of the pit, but that is where it will be the most immersive.
For all the innovation attributed to moderns DJs using controllers and mixing boards in their sets to customize presequences laptop sets, nothing comes close to strait working 3 decks like the wizard, save for the absolutely insanity of shadow.

Yeah, scratch DJs who can go to work on tables like this have some serious talent going on. I consider this a lot different than what someone like deadmau5 is doing...no way he could come close doing what they do. It's really a difference between artists that produce and DJs that focus on deck work. I'm glad both worlds exist.

Seeing DJ Shadow perform Endtroducing... would be so epic.

I personally wouldn't because of my rule against city festivals.
But for people that only base their decisions on line up.....ACL could absolutely take away some of the crowd.
Major festivals that would affect Bonnaroo ticket sales.
So only major festivals that happen in June?
ACL is only $225 after pre-sales ($200 at pre-sale with no extra fees), and the lineup drops in April/May. I think that most people that are going to Bonnaroo have already committed at that time and ACL's lineup isn't going to affect that much. People that are die-hard festies, have already bought their ACL tickets and Bonnaroo and any other fest that they are going to (I know I have) when pre-sale dropped. I am not saying that ACL being balls out awesome wouldn't change peoples minds, but I think with it being a later in the season festival and much cheaper ticket price it doesn't have that much of an impact on Bonnaroo. I mean I have had ACL tickets since they went on sale in what October? But I also bought presale to BUKU, Voodoo and Bonnaroo so what do I know?
Oh and ACL is definitely a major festival...I wasn't touching that.

I agree. By now, you pretty much know what you are getting in terms of Bonnaroo (and from the sounds of things, a LOT of people are dissing the lineup) and ACL won't change too many minds IMO.

Haha.....wait....-am I supposed to be buying tickets to these things?
Shit.
hahaha no. I am just cheap... I hate paying full price. Like Voodoo, their pre-sale is half priced. So, $99 as opposed to $199 for GA and $300 VIP opposed to $650. The ACL thing is I just always go, I just buy. I mean really what is $25? I get why people wait for the lineup with that price point. BTW, I don't vacation, I go to festivals that is my vacation and I have to have tickets in hand in order to get my time off approved.

Yeah but no one can deny the fact that the "normal festival goer" is evolving. With new events popping up every year it allows someone in their first few years of the game the option to stay closer to home and buy into a festival that will have a good number of overlapping acts.

I usually just whore myself out to the highest bidder a few days before.
But I don't vacation either. The closest thing I've gotten to since 2006 was Mexico this year. And even that was a festival.

if you only want to go for the party atmosphere, then sure, go to bonnaroo....but people who care about more than that might hold off. its really easy to get a bonnaroo ticket for cheap in may, so why not wait until all the lineups are out to decide? I honestly don't know why ppl buy bonnaroo tickets during the initial onsale, you can get them crazy cheap later on, but with other fests you need to buy immediately or get shut out.

Just go for the pit. You can always leave the pit for the 2nd half of the set to get the view from the back, but not vice versa.
I'll try and go for the pit but I won't try that hard (meaning I won't miss music to wait in line). Hopefully I'll get lucky.
