Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
You pick one album per band that you think people should start out with to learn about that band. I tally the votes, and when I arbitrarily decide a consensus has been reached, I add that album to the OP. Discussion and argument is encouraged. A good tiebreaker is usually which album is more likely to show up on the setlist at Roo. If a band only has one major release, let me know so I don't waste my time tallying votes!
Additional note: If you agree with someone else's pick(s), don't be afraid to quote them or second them or whatever. The more votes I get, the quicker this list forms up.
Here are some votes, from me:
Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, MAAD City My Morning Jacket - Okokonos Childish Gambino - Camp
Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, M.A.A.D City My Morning Jacket - Okokonos Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls* Flume - Flume* Hozier - Hozier* Slayer - Reign in Blood The War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream Gary Clark Jr. - Gary Clark Jr. Live Tove Lo - Queen of the Clouds* Dawes - Nothing Is Wrong AWOLNATION - Megalithic Symphony* Sylvan Esso - Sylvan Esso* Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn - Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn* Jerry Douglas presents Earls Of Leicester - The Earls of Leicester* Bleachers - Strange Desire* Rudimental - Home* MØ - No Mythologies to Follow* Jungle - Jungle* Benjamin Booker - Benjamin Booker* Houndmouth - From the Hills, Below the City* Glass Animals - Zaba* SZA - Z* Rhiannon Giddens -Tomorrow Is My Turn* [E-Note: This album has not been released yet. Listen to some Carolina Chocolate Drops in the meantime?] Ryn Weaver - Promises EP* Priory - Priory* Brownout Presents BROWN SABBATH - Brownout Presents BROWN SABBATH* [E-Note: Brownout has other albums, but the name indicates that they will be playing this one as a cover set] DMA's - DMA's* Catfish & the Bottlemen - The Balcony* Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas Secret Evil* [E-Note: We have a vote for The Demons EP, but Secret Evil is the only full-length LP and the only thing available on What.cd]
* = Only major release by artist
Close to enough votes for a "Consensus"
Belle & Sebastian Earth, Wind & Fire Flying Lotus Brandi Carlile Against Me! Shakey Graves Between The Buried & Me
I'll get to this later, but I was just thinking off the top of my head I have no idea what to do with Belle & Sebastian. There are about 4 albums in the running.

Edit: Dave picked my favorite.
Yeah, there's multiple contenders, but that's the one that really got me started with them.

Spoon – Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (I think there will be a lot of argument on these guys best. Really can't go wrong except for Transference)
Punch Brothers – Who’s Feeling Young Now (The first 3 songs off of The Phosphorescent Blues coming out this month are outstanding. Might be a better choice.)
The War On Drugs – Lost In The Dream
Strand of Oaks – HEAL (special attention to Shut In off that album)
Dawes – Nothing Is Wrong
Moon Taxi – Cabaret
Gary Clark Jr. – Gary Clark Jr. Live
My Morning Jacket - Okonokos
Bahamas - Bahamas Is Afie
PHOX - PHOX (It's their debut and only release, but it's a gem. Give it a listen)
PHOX - PHOX (It's their debut and only release, but it's a gem. Give it a listen)
Actually, in a way, it's sort of their fourth release. They had Friendship, Phox Unblushing, and Confetti beforehand. Friendship is sort of a mixtape with hip-hop album-style banter in between most songs and has the original recordings of several of the great songs on their self-titled. And I gotta love Confetti because it has the original "Slow Motion" and there is a song called "Barside" on there and son-of-a-bitch it is beautiful. You may know all this, I'm mostly pointing it out to anyone who doesn't know.
I agree with the sentiment though, I definitely recommend everyone to start where you suggested.
Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, M.A.A.D City Florence + the Machine - Ceremonials Brandi Carlile - Bear Creek (although her upcoming album seems promising) Gary Clark Jr. - Gary Clark Jr. Live Dawes - Nothing Is Wrong Sturgill Simpson - Metamodern Sounds in Country Music Guster - Lost and Gone Forever Mac DeMarco - Salad Days Shakey Graves - And the War Came Hurray for the Riff Raff - Small Town Heroes The Districts - The Districts EP (this will change to their new album when it comes out)
sts9 - interplanetary escape vehicle woods - with light and with love ben folds - rockin' the suburbs ben folds five - whatever and ever amen FlyLo - cosmogramma

Flying Lotus- You're Dead! Spoon- They Want My Soul or Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (most of their material will be culled from these two, based on past sets) Robert Plant- Lullaby and the Senseless Roar great record, a solo-career peak for Mr. Plant in my opinion! If you haven't already hear Led Zeppelin III, then definitely give that one a listen. Being Zep's folkiest outing, that is where Robert usually pulls most of his non solo songs from. Ben Folds- Whatever and Ever Amen Belle and Sebastian- The Boy with the Arab Strap Kendrick- Good Kid Run the Jewles- RTJII
Childish Gambino- Camp MMJ- The Tennessee Fire Florence- Lungs Against Me- Reinventing Axl Rose is their best, but not the most representative of what they play on stage now I agree that Billy Joel/EWF/Tears For Fears should probably be greatest hits comps Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas- The Demons EP/Single (it has 5 tracksl, I think its an ep)
PHOX - PHOX (It's their debut and only release, but it's a gem. Give it a listen)

I knew they had several recordings, but I could never find a way to get them living in Virginia, so this is what I consider release #1. Also, it's the only thing on Spotify. Your point is fair though.

Just going through the list and the people whose albums I know Billy Joel: Greatest Hits-1,2,3 Mumford: Both albums are kind of the same MMJ: Circuital Robert Plant: Any Zeppelin album!!! Gary Clark Jr: Blak and Blu (does he have another studio album?)
SECONDED! Excellent choice. Also LA - Flying Lotus Run The Jewels (1) - Run The Jewels
It's just my opinion & I LOVE RTJ2 but I think as far as an introduction album RTJ1 > RTJ2 for someone who has never heard them or had minimum exposure. Looking forward to seeing how this thread shapes up. There are allot of bands on the line up I'd had little or no exposure to so Roo is already expanding my musical world. Big case in point would be Atomic Bomb! I hadn't a clue and now I do. Thank you Bonnaroo. Poetry bitches! EDIT:
