We know that D'Angelo's touring Black Messiah in 2015, even though he hasn't announced a US leg at this point. I'm optimistic that he does, in which case -- who knows -- a Bonnaroo show is still possible. The lineup announcement came early this year, with fewer acts than usual, and what looks like some space in the midcard. I would guess that D'Angelo isn't listed not necessarily because he's been ruled out, but because he's still working his US dates.
He finished his current European leg in March. I imagine he'll launch a US tour in late spring or early summer, but who knows. Given there's a decent chance he's touring in June, we could still get D'Angelo on the lineup.
Dunno if this is just wishful thinking or if this might actually happen. I'm leaning toward the second, but hey, that's how wishful thinking works.
Probably wishful thinking, but I'm right there with ya. I was shocked and crushed to see him absent on the initial lineup drop. I've heard he's asking for a lottttttta cash, so I could see that not fitting into the Roo budget this year. He's GOTTA be at some festivals though (maybe other AC Ent ventures), I imagine in a semi-headlining capacity. With the Black Messiah hype, I can't see him slipping out of the top five.
I will be throwing my money recklessly towards whatever fest does end up getting him.

Lol. I would take him over any of our top 5, or top 10 for that matter, with the only close artist being MMJ.
Do you think he'd necessarily be top 5 at Bonnaroo? I'm not so sure. I could easily see him in the top ten names, especially with this year's top lines being so weak.
At Roo, he's a top ten for sure, at other festivals, I think he's gotta be top five, just based on how much cash he is asking for. A festival in Toronto that has booked The Flaming Lips, The National and St Vincent level bands in the past said that D'Angelo was asking for the equivalent of almost all of their booking budget and as such, was immediately ruled out. Obviously that's a small festival, but for mid-tier festivals, I think if he keeps his festival dates to a select few (the anti-Outkast move if you will), he could really draw some numbers.
One look at the ticket prices for D'Angelo's recently-announced first stateside show this year, and you can see how much his team is hoping to cash in. Those are Neil Young prices. This would be a VERY big-budget add for Roo.
The Vanguard will indeed be doing North American dates this summer, band member and keyboard maestro Pookie Sample just confirmed... to me... on Instagram. But I'll take it!! Dates are dropping very soon.
With all the ACE presence at D shows lately, it's looking quite likely he's getting added to at least one of their fests. And I will now think about NOTHING ELSE until an official announcement is made
