Pissed I missed it again. They ran late? I thought this ended at 9?
Yeah, ended around 9:20-30ish I believe. Well worth missing the first 1/3 of Billy Joel, and I am a BJ fan. Will be doing the same unless the headliner is unreal.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Yup, but they also started 20 minutes late. There was only 15 minutes scheduled between Punch and Lonesome which is cray cray.
Not familiar with a lot of Bluegrass but who's Lonesome and why were they only scheduled 15 minutes?
The Lonesome Trio is Ed Helms' bluegrass trio, who are a big part of the superjam. I wasn't there, but I'm guessing it was just a chance for them to do a bit of their own material before they kicked off the superjam

This was my first year seeing the superjam up close (although I have attended multiple), but what someone told me (bacon?) was that the Superjam usually begins with a Lonesome Trio performance. This was just the first year it was advertised. My thoughts were that that wanted to be more recognized as a separate entity rather than a few musicians jamming. Although they have been performing together for more than 15 years, this month they released/are releasing their first album, so having their name out there is probably more critical this year.
Side note, I saw a full set at Newport last year and really enjoyed them.

This was such a perfect way to end Roo for me (before walking over the Billy Joel)
The tent was surprisingly not crowded and the Lonesome Trio was a great start to the festivities. I like how Ed Helm defers his star status for this. He didn't speak much and was humble when he did. He's not a movie star up there, just a good musician playing with good friends.
The Superjam was just a blast. Can't believe how many good musicians are on that stage. Chris Thile is amazing, Bela Fleck was of course awesome as well. Loved Giddens and Washburn too. Overall just a blast of a time and again a great way to say "goodbye" to Bonnaroo. I hope to be back to Roo next year or the next few years and if so, I'll never miss a bluegrass superjam.
