Recently I've realized that I can only appreciate live music that I can dance to.
Example: I LOVE listening to James Blake in my headphones but was terribly bored at his show last year. Two of my favorite shows last year were probably Disclosure and Classixx. However, I don't only need electronic music. Specifically, Foals and David Byrne come to mind as great shows that I could really get into.
Only very rarely can I just stand there and appreciate music (Four Tet, Darkside, and Tame Impala come to mind). Also, I absolutely can't stand dub-step or anything in that realm (sorry Flume).
Having said all that, who should I listen to this year besides the obvious picks (Deadmau5, WOD, Jamie XX, Fly Lo, Sylvan Esso, MMJ, Caribou, Moon Taxi, Mac Demarco, SBTRKT)?
Bored at James Blake??
I should've gotten you to take that girl to the medical tent, killed three birds while stoned..

If you like fun things, you will like Pokey Lafarge. In the neighborhood of the Americana-type bands that are all the rage these days, but based more on old-time jazz, ragtime, blues, and folk music. I am on a mission to get as many people on this train as possible, I love this guy. And his live shows are just ridiculously fun.
if you like getting fisted by your brother, you'll like hozier.
This is hilarious since my buddy that comes to roo with me every year is super excited to see hozier. And he does in fact like being fisted by his brother.
The hidden gem for me last year was Omar Souleyman. Outside of superjams, it was the most unique show that was super fun! Anyone know of a show similar to his this year?

Thx man! Seems like a chill show to begin the day to!

The music is not similar to Souleyman, but The Very Best is a unique act. African dance pop.

also atomic bomb: who is william onyeabor?
byrne or no byrne, this is a can't miss show.
The more I've read about Atomic Bomb, as well as listened to their music along with the original music by Onyeabor, the more I look forward to this set.

Hmm, I don't think of Flume as being even close to dub step. What of his did you listen to?
Jungle, Glass Animals, and Odesza come to mind as shows that should have people dancing.
Idk, I listened to some sets on youtube and it sounded like some dubstep/trap type of nonsense.
Actually, it was this:
The first 8 minutes or so sounded like absolute garbage to me and I stopped listening altogether. I guess I should have listened further, since the rest of the set is nothing like the start.
Gotcha. I had actually never listened to any of his boiler room sets before. When I saw him live he played a lot of his own tracks and stayed within his sound.
I would definitely recommend giving his debut album a listen. I think most of his work has house/chill (that hurt to write)/R&B/ electronica influence
His deluxe album also has some quality remixes with rap features.
I'm gonna put in a plug for one of my favorite smaller bands: hundred waters
if you like chvrches, purity ring, grimes, FKA twigs, blood orange etc. then you may enjoy them! they're fantastic live, too. she plays the flute on some songs!!

Shout out to Central Florida!
I can play like 3 degrees of separation with these guys. One of my girlfriend's high school friends grew up with another guy, David Levesque, who was originally a part of Hundred Waters, but they went their separate ways. He went on to make an album that was panned by Pitchfork, and these guys are blowing up.
Good for them though, saw them a few years ago at a really small local fest, really cool band.

Everyone danced their ass off at Tame Impala in 2013. One of the best shows ive ever been to at roo

Totally different though. — If you like Phantogram you'll like Odesza. more electronic though I think. Less female vocals on most racks NOT COMPARABLE. — If you like My Morning Jacket you'll like Moon Taxi Hmmm. Maybe? — If you like the Bee Gees or scissor sisters you'll like Jungle Finally agree. — If you like like Allah las from last year, you'll love Temples and The Growlers They sound nothing alike. — If you like MGMT you may like Woods Agree again. — If you like Pretty Lights you'll like Gramatik This is kinda, somewhat close? Not really. — If you like Ty Segall you'll like King Gizzard
2/9 isn't bad for someone with shitty music tastes.

I know how we all feel about miami dolphins fanboy, but I have to agree on the royal blood & odesza comparisons. while no, they may not be directly correlated, I can definitely see people who like those particular artists liking the style of the other artist.
