any reccomendations on hotels nearby? or do most just stay in denver. we're wanting to cab there and back so hoping to stay closer, if there is something.
any info would be greatly appreciated!
I did umphreys last year. We did air bnb and got a sweet place right in downtown Denver in a loft apt. About $80 a night vs $200 in the hotels. There is a shuttle company that drove us there and back, allowed drinks on the bus and got there about 2 hours before doors. I forget what they are called but i just found them on google. It was fun because you party bus to the show with about 30 other peoplewho are stoked for the show. Fun way to meet people and not have to worry about driving back. And I think it was $20 round trip, cheaper than a cab.
I lived in colorado for a total of 27 months and never made it to red rocks because I was broke and unaware of volunteering opportunities. I'm sure I'll find my way there sometime soon, but it kills me to know how close I was to the promised land with nothing to show for it.

This depends. Are you planning on doing anything in Denver before or after the show? There are a couple of hotels (Hampton Inn, Best Western, ect.) that are close distance-wise to Red Rocks if you are just shooting in and out for the show. Otherwise I would strongly consider finding someplace closer to Denver proper so you are in the middle of the action. All of this depends on what your plans are and your budget for lodging while you're in town.
thanks! this is basically what i ended up booking. forget our thursday night hotel name closer to red rocks (easy sleep and stay or something shady that doesn't matter). then we have two nights booked at the curtis in downtown denver. cannot wait to visit a dispensary!

My girlfriend and I are planning on going to Colorado for a week in late May (centered on Memorial Day). Just realized that our tentative plan gives us a pretty solid chance to see The Decemberists/Spoon/Courtney Barnett show. Woo!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
tronik Ill be in Denver July 27-31 for work. When they decide to fill in that gap from 7/12-7/29 Im picking a show and goin. If they dont fill that gap in, the Music of ABBA, it is! I need to see Red Rocks STAT!
Take your pick!
7/10-12 - Avett Brothers 7/14 - Wilco 7/15 - Death Cab For Cutie + Tune-Yards 7/24-26 - The String Cheese Incident 7/27 - Alt-J + TV On the Radio
The husband and I are going to CO for our honeymoon in late May/early June, and will be doing the Friday and Sunday Bassnectar shows!! He's never been, so I can't wait for him to feel the magic!

Thinking it might have to to Alt-J on 7/27. Gotta figure out our flight plans and lock down what days the conference is.

I hope I don't get the thread way off track here by asking, but does anyone have any suggestions of things to do in Denver while I'm in town? I'm in town 2 full days and 1 night. The only things on my agenda are hitting up a dispensary, going to Casa Bonita, and going to see Bassnectar. Any other suggestions of things to do while I'm in town?

Off the top of my head...
-Drive up Lookout mountain road. Amazing views of Denver and the plains. -Walk around LoDo (downtown Denver) and the 16th street mall, people watch, grab a beer (or 3) at Falling Rock or Great Divide. -The Denver Art Museum has some great permanent and visiting exhibits. Plus the building looks cool. -Visit a bona fide Colorado brewery. Strange Brewing is one of my favorites and their beer is delicious! -Drive up to Boulder and poke around, maybe visit Nederland and take in the mountain weirdness.
Wasn't Jungle supposed to be with Odesza and Chromeo before or am I going crazy? I don't see them listed anymore on the website.
I think you are mistaking them for Classixx, who is opening. Are you going?
I really felt like I was going crazy and it looks like Jungle was supposed to be there but they replaced them with Cashmere Cat. Actually I'm happy with that cause ill see jungle at bonnaroo anyway. And yeah I plan on going, what about you?

Going to my first Red Rocks show this August (Pretty Lights). Also decided to just go ahead and move to Denver, since I've been thinking about it for the last few years. My lease is up July 31st and the concert is August 8th. Three months to find a job.

I went to see Bassnectar last Sunday, and holy shit guys. Holy shit. What an incredible show. And what an incredible city. I think that one of my favorite vacation in years, even topping most of the festivals I've been to.
I only spent about 40 hours in Denver but I jam packed it with nonstop awesome and loved every minute of it. That city is incredible and I'm hoping I can work it out to move there someday.
I'm already considering making another trip later this year, because I feel like I need to go back. I'm looking at maybe doing Griz at Red Rocks 9/4. and then I can also hit up Phish Dicks 9/5 or 9/6

leaving for red rocks in a week, pretty damn excited. makes it much easier to come back from roo with another vacation to follow.
from what i'm hearing getting a cab out is pretty easy? like they just line up pretty much and hop in? any help on transportation would be great. we're staying at a hotel only about 15 from red rocks
edit: also if you have suggestions of places to go check out i'll have some time with my buddies friday and saturday to explore a little bit

I rented a car when I visited, but if you're not renting I'd recommend uber instead of cabs. It's cheaper, and usually a better experience.
Are you staying at the days inn in golden?I stayed there for bassnectar and 75% of the hotel was at the show.
Before red rocks check out dinosaur ridge, you can see dinosaur foot prints. It's right next door to the venue pretty much. It's free if you talk instead of taking the bus. Also lookout mountain park had some beautiful views.
While I was in town I had voodoo donuts. It's like a punk rock donut shop with the best Damn donuts I've ever had.
If you watch south park, it might be fun to check out casa Bonita for lulz. I didn't make it last time because my girl friend is vegetarian, and the menu isn't veg friendly (the beans have beef lard, and the rice uses chicken broth)
I didn't get to explore night life much but next time I'm looking to check out beta night club. I also hear good things about Cervantes.
