That was the first video I came across. I was looking for something live to get a feel for her show. It may be more of her "out there" stuff... but it's still pretty strange...
fair enough. I don't know her live show at all, but I've assumed it will have a little more electronic, but who knows. Something I'll be keeping an eye on.
If I miss her at Big Ears, I'll be there. But in all fairness, I have horrible taste in music.
I'd like to catch her at one or the other, but it depends who she is up against. A collaboration with Kronos Quartet at Big Ears is probably fairly likely.
Her music is really intriguing, but this seal thing looks really bad. Before I go protesting her set for supporting the clubbing of baby seals, please tell me I'm missing something. Boner Any insight?

Honestly. Seal hunting is a way of life for these people. I mean, i am against the killing of baby seals. As is Tanya i'm sure. Its illegal to hunt white coated baby seals. Its illegal to "club" seals. do people break the law? yes *i messed up here, its actually not illegal to use a club, just read the article in the link,. Are honest people trying to make a living by hunting seals monsters? absolutely not. I realize people south of the boarder are getting the 30 second shock news headlines with very little facts and all that, so im not suprised by any misinformation on the topic, and im certainly not the most knowledgable either.
All i know is Tanya is defending her peoples way of life and traditions, those of which dont involve clubbing baby seals.
yeah, I don't have the patience or desire to do the drugs required to get into this.
A half-assed sound play by play:
1:00 Sex sounds 1:15 Overwieght dog excited by snausages 1:30 ET playing with himself ---- blocked this part out 4:30 Windex on windows. 4:40 Wolves????? 4:45 Homemade Jurassic Park sound effects. 5:15 "What am I doing with my life" 5:40 Demonic porcelain doll 6:00 Newly discovered footage of Selma Blare's Exorcist audition. 6:20 "I need to be locked up for my own safety" 6:45 More bullshit
I stopped after that.
I might havta watch this video on description alone!
If I miss her at Big Ears, I'll be there. But in all fairness, I have horrible taste in music.
I'm always glad to stumble on somethin' new musically, especially on The Farm. But I think I draw a line at throat singin'. Sonic or Solar Stage? Fantastic. Tent even durin' the early/mid-day? Waste.

its going to be in a tent, probably late night, and Ashley Capps will be there to see it himself that or maybe the Sunday Goat spot. Either way, I don't see her on the sonic or solar.

She might get The Other Tent like the years when they had World Music in the day. But they seem to be moving away from that. Maybe because of lack of interest? When Los Aterciopelados played, there were around 200 people at 2pm on Friday. That's really sad for a group with a fairly large fan base in the states, who were on a semi-reunion tour.

I'll probably be there enjoying my selfie time away from you uncultured mongrels. She is no Diamanda Galas, but she is extremely talented. The best way for you to watch that video is if you don't look at it. Just listen. This particular "style" of music may not be immediately appealing to your palate but there is composition here, primal emotion, and musicality, no I'm not fucking kidding she's actually kinda awesome. What bother's me in the video is her dress. If she'd dressed like a homeless lady pushing a shopping cart it would have pushed it over the edge. At least for that song. But performance art and avant garde is not performed 1 song/act at a time. What we see with the video in the OP is a snippet of something taken out of context, a part of a larger arch of sentiment she was trying to communicate with her work.
People will not like what she does and that's OK. You don't have to. Yes it's weirder than any of the shit you listen to but just because it's weird and you don't like it while others find it intriguing is not a negative reflection on your "open mindedness". You may never appreciate her "music" ever, or one day you may think about her caterwauling while experiencing a rough (or positive) patch in your life and think "She fucking nailed it without words. I can relate to that feeling". Fans are always far more pretentious than the artists they adore. Except for Sting.

What this guy said! It's just going to bother me when people stumble on this thread, click the video in the op, and without reading another post past the first page, write it off as "worse than unchained" I know this shouldn't bother me, but it does.

I don't think i would remain interested for an entire set, but i'm a little intrigued by it. Depending on what else is going on, i may wander over for a small helping.

I'd like to catch her at one or the other, but it depends who she is up against. A collaboration with Kronos Quartet at Big Ears is probably fairly likely.
I feel like I read that was happening (but I forget where).

From Big Ear's website:
"Previously announced artists-in-residence Kronos Quartet will perform several concerts throughout the festival weekend, including collaborations with several guest artists. One such collaboration will see the iconic Laurie Anderson performing her Kronos collaboration “Landfall,” inspired by Anderson’s experience of Hurricane Sandy and praised by The New York Times as “awash in elegiac string sounds and postmillennial gloom.” Other Kronos collaborators will include Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, The National guitarist / composer and Big Ears alum Bryce Dessner, and 2014 Polaris Music Prize recipient Tanya Tagaq. Composer Terry Riley, whose work has been championed by Kronos for decades, will also perform at the festival in celebration of his 80th birthday year."

In OP's video, my initial reaction was "what the fuck is this?" But when the production and the cello ramped up and it kept going and I zoned out to it while reading up on her, I dug it a lot.
Barring conflicts, sure I'll be there. It'll beat seeing [indie folk band] for the 100th time.
