looking for pro & cons, tried searching old threads but came up pretty empty, link 'em up if you know of any
in the past i've driven and besides the killer drive home on Monday (~14 hrs i believe) it's been ok. But the more i think about it, flying might make more sense this time for me. first off, it looks like i'm going solo and there's no way i'd want to do that drive by myself... i could always try to find some randoms to do the drive with (anyone from buffalo/western ny heading down?) which could be fun or a friend or two could be convinced to go (doesn't look likely at this point).
looking at the travel packages through 'roo it looks like all the decent nashville departures are already done (just 7:30am and evening left) but i did find a decent flight through expedia (arrive in nashville 3:30 on thurs and leave at noon Monday) for $280. My main concern is not having all the gear i'm used to at fests - basically sun shelter and coolers of beverages and food. i am an avid backpacker so i do have all the other gear and it's easily packable.
guess i'm looking for opinions from others who have flown. it looks like i'm gonna do it just need some encouragement or if it really wasn't worth it let me know and i'll reconsider. plus any tips or hints would be appreciated.
It's too bad you're coming coming from so far up north and not closer to the city. Most likely I'd be flying (out of JFK i think) as well since I can't find anyone else who wants to drive (or wants to go period ugh). And I too am worried about not having as much gear as you would if you were driving. Are you staying at a hotel or anything like that?
Anyway, looks like mshot and I will both need encouragement. So....good luck!
Are you planning on bringing your own food / drink? If not, it might not be sooo bad.
You could bring a small 1/2 person tent, and most of your gear in a rucksack. I think most flight services have a 50lb max bag limit, so you may need to bring 2 bags.
If you plan on bringing food, I'd buy it once I got there, including a cooler. Just take the cooler back to Wal-Mart after 'Roo, or keep it.
Well I'm flying in from Seattle on the Wednesday....then I'm just going to hit a store and buy a cooler....some food and "drinks" and take that with me! I'm sure I'll have to buy some food while I'm there...but I'll save some money this way at least! You'll have to scarifice some shit though I'll be right there with ya ;D
actually the flight i'm looking at has a layover at JFK - thurs from 1:00pm to 1:50pm. so keep that in mind as things get closer
As for food, i'll probably bring dried fruit, gorp and some other easily packable stuff to munch on and buy meals as i feel the need. my main concern is the liquids, i was thinking that i could always work out a bulk discount with someone on shakedown for water and beer, then i realized i won't have a cooler but maybe a trip to wall-mart will solve that and i can get the good stuff to fill it there too.
how hard is it to get to wal-mart from the campgrounds? my one buddy tried the hike last year but he got turned back, although i think he was trying to walk along the interstate.
thanks for the help, where there's a roo there's a way, right?
I'd be willing to run some of you all to the Wally World on Thursday or Friday afternoon. That way, maybe two or three of you could split the cost of a cooler. I'd prefer to do it Friday early AM so I don't miss anything, but we'll see once the schedule comes out.
I figure a brand new cooler for one person is just a waste since you probably won't take it back. And while we're out you all can grab some water, food, supplies, ect.
Great idea. I'd love to share a cooler w/ you (and others) if the offer's still open. I'm just more concerned about drinks than actual food. And yeah heading out the earlier the better. Keep me updated with this.
Mshot - perhaps our paths will cross in the insanity known as JFK :-) Not sure when I'm leaving though but I'll let you know when I find out.

im also flying in from ny (LGA) but on friday.. as i cant take off 3 days of work!!
and p.s. ive booked my reservation for the shuttle from the airport.. and my $50 is paid. Do we have to reserve times to? Or do you just get on when you get there?
You should cry and guilt them into give your more days off. That's what I had to do Fortunately that made them give me a week off instead of just 3 days. Unfortunately it's all unpaid vacation so I'd be losing a ton of money. Oh well it'll all be worth it in the end right?
Also if you don't mind me asking, how much wwere your tickets roundtrip and what'd you use to get them.

hahah i wish i could do that. but im a teacher.. and i really cant even take off the days i am taking off!!!! hahah . OH WELL.. i am anyway
no prob. i booked them straight on aa.com because it was like 6 bucks cheaper than orbitz. the flight was non-stop LGA to Nashville for 202$. they actually had cheaper tickets for $163 round trip.. but the return flight was monday night at 8pm.. which would get me home wayyy too late. im actually curious to know if the flight prices have gone up.. i booked 2 weeks ago.

I'm flying out Thursday from California and this will be my first Bonnaroo as well. I think I'll be using the airport shuttle service and I was wondering how to get food/drinks/supplies as well. It would be great to go in on a store run to stock up for the weekend before the show starts.
i flew in last year with a friend and it was actually quite easy to do...the only thing that we didn't have that we would have liked to have was a tarp and poles for shade. we have to figure out a way to do that this year, any ideas?
the shuttle was really easy to do, they just take a load of people whenever people get there
we just food and everything there and i kept trail mix stuff with me at all time and just filled up water bottles on site
I'm more than happy to bring some extra supplies for roo'ers that are flying in! just let me know when it gets closer! I have a truck and its just me driving so I have plenty of room for extra supplies!

i might take you up on a case of water.. or a case of blue gatorade!!
^just remind me when it gets closer, or pm me!! I've already started my "water for roo stash", I buy an extra case or so every coupla weeks so that when it gets here I'm not at the store buying a million cases at once, i drink water like crazy, three or four nalgenes a day when I'm home, I literally can't live without it!
