I know there is a thread for Serial in particular, but I haven't seen a thread for podcasts in general (podcasts, podcatchers, etc).
What are your favorite podcasts and what do you use to listen to them? What are your favorite podcatchers and RSS readers?
In terms of podcasts, I've only ever listened to Hardcore History and This American Life, but I've been looking to expand.
Part of why I haven't is the catchers I'm using. I haven't found a good mobile catcher (well..I'm going to get Pocket Casts at some point) and I only use Clementine on PC, and that doesn't auto-update.
Are there any good catchers I'm not paying attention to and what are your favorite podcasts?

Comedy Bang Bang and Improv4Humans are two favorites of mine. I also like How Did This Get Made? (about shitty movies) and U Talkin' U2 to Me? (about U2 but really silly and goofy and not really all about U2). All from Earwolf podcast network. I've got some others I listen to on occasion.
NPR - Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Ask Me Another, How to Do Everything, Serial MaxFun - Judge John Hodgman, Song Exploder (everyone here should listen to this), International Waters EarWolf/WolfPop - I Was There Too Other: The Tobolowsky Files, The Smartest Man in the World, The Moth
My all-time favorite show is Big O and Dukes. They used to be on WJFK in DC until they flipped to sports talk, now they do bi-weekly 1 hour podcasts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They even did an episode on Sirius/XM a few months back. I definitely recommend them.
Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast is hand's down my favorite podcast with no exception. His show with Bob Saget as his guest is probably one of the funniest things I've ever heard in my life & I'm not kidding! Or the one with Penn Jillete which comes in 2nd. I just discovered it a couple days ago and being a big fan of Gilbert I've only scratched the surface. So far it's comedy platinum!
My favorite not-comedy podcast is "Radiolab" the topics and stories are always fascinating and I really enjoy the editing.
Outside of those 2 I really enjoy the Cracked Podcast, Harry Shearer, The DAily show w/out John Stewart. One of the less accessible (i.e. a bit weird for the ears) is Over The Edge which is a weekly radio program of collages & found sound hosted mostly by Don Joyce and occasionally he's joined by other members of Negativland.
Most of the time I just plug my iPnone into the car and hit play. When I'm at home, stationary, I listen to music but when I'm on the go I often want to hear people talking. I don't know why. So most podcasts I listen to while I'm driving.

My favorite is definitely WTF. Maron is as much fun as a character as his interview subjects. The recent Paul Thomas Anderson is a really great episode.
I also like Comedy Bang Bang, This American Life, All Songs Considered, Serial, WBEZ's Strange Brews (about beer) and Gravy (examines Southern culture through food heritage).
I also love Analyze Phish but that's more of a mini-series then a regular podcast, I guess.
I think everyone on here would probably like Song Exploder. They have an artist come in and breakdown a popular song of theirs. The artist will tell you what each sound is, where the idea for that came from, how the song came together, etc. It's really cool. They've got some good artists like The Postal Service, Baths and Daedelus.
Anyone have a podcast recommendation for learning French? I figure I could do it while I ride the train to work. And I'd never say no to another good beer podcast.
Some really great ones mentioned here. WTF to me is far and away the best podcast out there. Also any fans of Jake and Amir on CollegeHumor should check out their podcast If I Were You. Really funny advice podcast
i know it was mentioned once above, but do you guys listen to doug loves movies? i'm going to a live show this weekend and am trying to finalize my idea for a nametag so i can have it done before the show.
edit: if you don't listen, at the live tapings, everyone in the crowd brings a nametag for themselves. basically, you put your name into the title of a movie and make a funny picture or sign with your name.

I was the one who mentioned it above. I haven't listened to many of the recent ones, but I listened to all of the first three seasons. I actually meant to go back and finish them, but I got on a kick of listening to the Nerdist and haven't finished them yet. I also went to a taping of it a year or so ago before I'd actually listened to it.

i was going to tag you, but it wouldn't let me on my phone. my bf has been listening obsessively and instantly bought tickets when he saw they were coming. how was the live show?

It was a lot of fun! The guests weren't anybody we were familiar with, but the games he plays with them make it fun no matter who they are. He's coming back here for a taping in October. I might be out of town for a wedding that weekend, but if I'm not, I will definitely be getting tickets.
And I'll make a name tag this time. We didn't know about that before we went last time, so we were really confused standing around before it as to why everyone had them.

I recently started listening to How Did This Get Made. It's on the Earwolf network and stars Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael and Jason Mantouzaks. They all watch terrible movies then rip them to shreds.
If you ride the Blue Line on Marta in Atlanta and have heard someone howling in laughter this week then that was probably me and I do not apologize.

i tried to think of all the dumb movies i've always watched with my dad (he's the master of stupid movies), and decided on making mine "MALIBEE'S MOST WANTED." i'm currently using paint to put my head on jamie kennedy's velour tracksuit body.

This podcast is great. I've watched some ridiculous movies just to know what they're talking about (haven't seen all of them). Sometimes it's fun to listen even if I haven't seen the movie.
My favorite movie that this podcast turned me on to? Monkey Shines
i don't have photoshop and always love ruining everything with ms paint, so here is the "nametag" i came up with for sunday.
That's so great! It seemed like in the older episodes, the closer you sat to the front, the better your chances were of getting picked, but I don't know if that is still true, and it probably depends on how big the place is and how big your name tag is. The taping we went to was at a pretty small place, and the guests went pretty far into the audience to pick their people, although one of the ones that they went kind of far back for was like a life-sized cardboard cutout of somebody (I want to say it was somebody like Bruce Lee, but I could be way off on that).

Nice! My friends and I have passed around clips from this movie for years but never actually watched it. This might be the impetus for viewing.
Next up for though is Deep Blue Sea. I hate-watched that a bunch of times in college so I can't wait to hear their thoughts on it.

I've been listening the last couple of days to Invisibilia from NPR. They have only done one six-episode season so far, but I think they are going to do more. It's described as being about the invisible forces that control our lives. I just finished listening to the third episode. It's good stuff.

This week's This American Life is pretty crazy. One of their reporters has a story about a prank show starring OJ Simpson that was produced in 2004. It's in bad taste to say the least.
I listened to the first episode last night! It was pretty fun. I see the episodes are all much longer from here on out. I hope they get more "mysterious."

really really good episode. I remember hearing about "Juiced" but hadn't heard about it in depth, its a really fascinating if disturbing story.

Man... that was crazy. I've done a lot of shows on OJ Simpson at work recently because of the 20-year anniversary so I'm morbidly fascinated by the whole thing. Not once did I EVER hear about that show. I kinda want to see it now.

Quick side story: when I was a kid I met OJ Simpson at the Atlanta airport. I asked him to sign the book I was reading, a Clive Cussler novel. He was a Clive Cussler fan and we talked about that. He signed it "OJ Simpson: Peace to You". He was REALLY nice. Little postjack walked away from that thinking OJ was the man. I pretty much just knew him from the Naked Gun movies but he was my favorite part of those.
Six months later I'm sitting at a friend's house watching the Bronco chase. Crazy stuff.
