I just ordered a Canon PowerShot SX520. Is this camera okay for Bonaroo, as in, is it allowed?
Also, my brother just bought a Go Pro. Are these allowed?
Sorry if this isn't the proper place, or if I should have posted in another thread. When I searched, there were lots of camera threads, but nothing recent.

Big lenses tend to make things tougher for certain cameras. I think just regular DSLR cameras are okay but I never brought them myself. Someone is bound to have some experience with it.
I've brought my Nikon DSLR the past four years. Last year was the first time I have ever had someone stop me at the gate & make me take it back. That was Thursday & I had no trouble the next three days. He was just a jerk.

I always tried to stand back for a second and see which guy looks cool, and which one is checking everyone and sticking to the book b/c I'd avoid that line. I had a pocket knife from camp that I forgot to put up and realized it was in my pocket. Instead of walking back to camp, I hid it under some girlie monthly items and he didn't check. It was my grandfather's so I didn't want to toss it... glad tampons worked in my favor that day LOL. Also, I carried through some party favors that i thought were hidden well but the guy caught them. He opened it up, looked at me really hard and then busted out laughing, Closed it, handed it back and said "have fun" and let me through.
Moral of the story, If you get there and they deny you having a camera, give it to a chick -- our smile, tits, and/or tampons can get almost anything through.
Day 1 this past year through the main gate i was given crap for having my GoPro on my stick and told i wasn't allowed to have it. The next few days i was having to hand it off to one of the ladies in our group because the ladies never get crap. But they really need to get the security on the same page on these sorts of things. Also i was in the pit for Kanye and they had security walk around at the beginning of the show and tell people not to use their GoPros which was strange, i still used mine because, I am the Press!
While I certainly can identify with the desire to take a camera/gopro into a show or festival (Bonnaroo). They make rules for a reason, it is not some arbitrary decision. There are a lot of hard working people that are being paid to photograph/video shows and festivals. The festival wants some control over the images from their event. I tend to be a "rule follower" though. For instance, I worked my ass off to try and get the credentials to shoot at One Big Holiday...to no avail. My good friend Josh Timmermans secured the exclusive rights to photograph the event. Excluding Danny Clinch who was there to do some video work. I brought my camera to take pics of other things but I only took one or two of the stage, from a good distance. I respect the right of the event to not allow professional cameras and the people (Jaosh, Dave, and Danny) that secured the exclusive rights to photograph/video. I saw people getting called out all weekend for gopros/cameras trying to video/photograph from the front of the stage. Some were upset when confronted, I just don't get it.
**edit** I appreciate that the OP at least inquired if their camera would be ok to take in to Centeroo. :-)
My issue last year was it says on the Bonnaroo website:
WHAT IS ALLOWED INTO CENTEROO / MAIN VENUE Water bottles or Camelbaks containing water only (non-glass containers only) Non-framed backpacks and bags (subject to inspection at venue gates) Low-seated concert chairs (i.e., sitting less than a foot off the ground) Blankets Camera WITHOUT a detachable lens (detachable lenses shorter than 2 inches are OK)
I even pulled this up on my phone and showed him. I took my basic lens & it is under 2".

I would imagine it would do the security people a favor to make the rule "No detachable lenses"...I understand what they are getting at. They do not want people like me (or anyone for that matter) that have 70-200 or 300mm lenses strolling in with them. Like the security has time to be measuring lenses. :-)

Hurray for smiles and tits! Oh, yeah, and tampons too, I guess. LOL

My intention was to find out if the camera was allowed. I really don't want to spend my time trying to figure out what I can and can't get in while I'm there.

I guess I can use this thread to ask for some point and shoot advice:
Basically I'm tired of screwing around with the phone on my camera. Waiting for the app to load, trying to control everything with a touchscreen, etc. I'd like a simple point and shoot camera that can take pictures better then say a standard iPhone 5 or Samsung S5. Something I can wear on a strap around my neck, with physical buttons I can push. But nothing super fancy, no detachable lenses, etc. Basically something I could take into centeroo or into other festivals with no issues.
I'd primarily be using it at festivals (just like crowd shots, stage shots, scenery, that kind of stuff, not super professional pictures of musicians), on vacations, and of course to take lots of pictures of my dogs.
Problem is I know zero about the camera market. I have no idea how much I'd have to spend to achieve my above goals. I was hoping to keep it below $200. Can someone tell me if that is at all realistic, and if so could you make some recommendations? If I have to spend more then that, how much do I have to spend?

Thanks so much for any input you can provide.
Druid and I both have Panasonic Lumix cameras and they take great photos. Mine cost around $185 at the time and has a great zoom. This is my 2nd Lumix, they are great point and shoot. I throw mine in my purse at Bonnaroo and don't really worry about it. I did get dust in the lens of my older one during the really dusty Bonnaroo, but my husband took it apart and fixed it

Fawn and I have gotten great shots with our Canon PowerShot SX260. They're pricy (~$350 new) but the zoom and image stabilizer are amazing. We stopped taking the EOS because of the quality and the ease of use.

I'd buy a used Canon T3i or T4i with a kit lens. You can find those cheap as hell and they'll take great shots.

I own this camera and use it for hiking. it takes great pictures and you wouldn't have to worry about water, dust, or dropping it.
OMG I am in LUUUUUUV with your dog! What unique eyes!
He's a real good boy. Got him from the local shelter a couple years ago. Had about a two week adjustment period where he was mean and distant, but since then he's only gotten sweeter.

I like shooting 35mm film, so in the past I've brought my Pentax K1000, but this year I'm just bringing my point & shoot. It's an Olympus Stylus Epic and they are extremely cheap on ebay(paid about $30) and extremely simple to use and they take great photographs in my opinion.
Here are a couple of photos shot with my point & shoot so you can get an idea of how the photos turn out. This is cheap fugifilm btw.
