its in inner city areas that targeting kids happens.
What the hell is that suppossed to mean? Only drugs and dealers in the "inner city". Or do you mean black people? Because where I come from anyone using that terminology means black people.
25 to 30 barely a survivable wage????? You can't be serious?
I concur. I don't make 30K and I live quite comfortably. And I live in Boston. I have cable TV and everything. I even have money to buy the things that we're talking about hiding in this thread. No honest man is getting rich being a cop, but I assume if I'm living comfortably making less, they must be making a fair living.
well i agree i could cange my image to play the game. but im not doing anything wrong. if i was in some danger of facing 10 years in prison i would probably play that game and try to hide from the evildoers. but as a tax paying citizen i feel i should be able to live my life the way i want to if im not hurting anyone. and i do try not to wear tie dyes and what not on the way to fests. but i have many people in my vehicle. im not gonna shave my beard because cops harrass innocent people. and i wouldnt expect my friends to cut thier long hair or dreads for the trip to roo. rather i would expect the police, that my tax dollars employ, to do their job the way it was intended to be done when we decided to pay them to serve and protect. very little is done in the name of protecting and serving the public. it mostly lets harrass and abuse the public to make more money. if the police were doing the job they way it was intended they wouldnt have these funding problems. quit wasting millions on helicopters and equipment to look for people growing bud in a closet. quit spending hours on the side of the road, endangering highway users, to search through an innocent persons car looking for something you can use to extort hundereds of dollars from them. id feel better getting protection from the mob. if your good to them they are good to you. we pay cops, and they abuse us. they should be respected members of our communities. instead they are some of the least respected members of the community.
and inner-city has nothing to do with race. it has to do with location. minorities arent the only poor people in america. but if you look at the stats you will find that a large percentage of the kids involved in druq cases come from inside large cities (inner-city) in the suburbs the cops are focused on harrasing young people. its just the way it works. its how they make their money there. bust johnny and suzy for drinking and smoking the reefer and have mommy and daddy pay a bunch of money to make it go away. in the inner city they are ignoring kids. they arent out actively looking for kids skipping school. cops might roll right past a group of 13 year olds standing in a circle somewhere because they know there are bigger fish, with more money, to fry. the parents of those children dont have money. so it costs the cops funds to harrass those kids. they arent interested in that. its a sad fact in america that alot of people in that position in the inner city are minorities. its this countries racism that has caused that to happen. im not racist for seeing things the way they are. i dont control who lives where. noone is driving around the corn fields of iowa looking for a playground to start slangin from. the stats say that most of the kids being targeted by dealers live in the inner city areas. black, white, purple or green dosent matter. i dont control that. i think its a tragedy and it needs to be changed. again quit spending this money on a dumb war on drugs and use it to atleast get inner city school systems up to the sub-standard levels that the suburbs enjoy. or better yet reform our entire school sytem and make a decent system for everyone in america. a war for education would help kids. and ending the war on druqs would help kids too. again druqs are a problem because they are illegal. we saw this same thing with alcohol. legalize it and the problems shrink greatly.
and again it depends on your definition of surviving. when i was 18 i was happy to share a place with friends and have cable. gimme a little xtra for some smoke and mcdonalds and that was the high life. but at 30 with a child it dosent cut it. house payment, car payment, gas for car, car inurance, house insurance, life insurance, cable, electric, gas for house, water/sewage, property taxes, food, toys, school clothes, school supplies, college fund, retirement fund, vacation fund, home repairs, car repairs, appliance repairs, football, baseball, soccer, basketball for the kids, etc... start adding them up and 25 grand dosent get you very far. i guess it depends on where your at in your life. for me i cant survive on the wages of a police officer.
Well, if you aren't doing anything wrong (illegal) there is no need to change your image. I drive a 2000 Nissan Frontier with 2 Dead Stickers and a ROO sticker on the back window. Especially in the summer seldom does a day go by I do not have a tye dye on. Oh, and my hair is fairly long. Yet I have been pulled over maybe 5 times myself and been in the a car with others multiple times with others that got pulled over. Never got a ticket, never even been asked to consent to a search. While I agree there are bad cops out there, I think what most of us take issue with is comments like :
"we pay cops, and they abuse us" (sounds to like me like they just abuse you)
"quit spending hours on the side of the road, endangering highway users" (huh?)
"they should be respected members of our communities" (they are, just not by you, sadly)
"instead they are some of the least respected members of the community." (In all the places I have lived I have never seen evidence of this)
All I can speak of is my experiences and others that I know. Same for you, even if you know some people that have the same "bad luck" as you wide sweeping comments about how terrible MOST cops are, seem inappropriate.
well you can go to prison and talk to many non violent druq offenders who are locked up with murderers and rapists and ask them if they are abused or not. they are away fromt thier families. they are in a place that they are likely to come out of 1 million times worse off thent hey were before. its abuse. being late to work and having your car torn apart because you look like someone who might smoke pot but havent done anything wrong is abuse. having all criminal charges dissappear but they still seize your property and cash is abuse. just becasue it hasnt happened to you dosent mean that its not happening all the time.
many accidents are casued by pullovers on the side of 70 mph highways. officers have been killed, and thousands of accidents happen every year as a result of it. even an inforooer told a story about an accident cause by their own unwarranted and useless highway search against people that have done nothing but fit a profile.
well we must run in way different crowds. because i dont know anyone that respects cops. sure they do some respectful things. but it comes no where near equalling the ammount of shady things they do with 99 percent of their time. and as we see on tv constantly when a situation arises where they could do some protecting and serving they dont. they let someone that they let escape their custody charge into a house and take hostages even though 50 cops were there. they let 3 kids shoot up a school full of kids while they were hiding outside instead of protecting and serving those school children. im not a cop. and if i was at a school that was being shot up i would run in unarmed and try to help.
well we must have been to different places. i witnessed sherrifs rounding people up on shakedown latenight so they could search them, and harrassing a vendor for having a dirty pipe. they took his money and his pipes. and i can honestly say there wasnt any respect being shown to those 'protectors and servers'. noone had a nice thing to say. everyone there was treating the cops like dirt. becasue they earn it. i know weve both been to roo. so take a little poll at roo this year and see how much respect you find for law enforcement.
i dont know what kinda people cops are at home. i refuse to be around them. but i know while at work they are constantly using tricks and being shady to try to investigate people who have done nothing but fit a profile. and they dont seem concerned at all about the impact it has on public safety. only how much money they can steal. taking my money for "taxes" and seizing my property without ever charging me with a criminal offense is stealing, even if some bullshit law says its ok.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, but when you stereotype all cops as being bad just because they're a cop, isn't that the same thing they do to you when they profile because you may look like a hippy?
im not profiling them for how they look. they are out harrassing the innocent people everyday. investigating them like they have done something just to try to find any reason to take their money and possessions. its actions that count. not appearances. unless your a cop. then its appearances not actions that justify harrassment.
and no worries. i dont think anyones picking a fight. it just seems that way when people dont agree on a message board. everyones entitled to their own thoughts and actions. none of this really matters. it is the way it is and its not gonna change any time soon. the only choice any of us has is to deal with it. our perceptions of the issue and the way with deal with it is all up o us individually. but i dont feel like im morally lower then someonelse because i refus to consent to a search or answer questions. its my rights as an american to do so. i think for anyone thats had it happen to them they know who is morally superior when it comes to cops and their actions against citizens that have done nothing. all cops accept a job profiling people and then trying to trick and intimidate that person into declining all of their rights. seriously, they are trained in how to do it, and do it everyday. im not making this up. on the other hand, all people that are profiled as 'possible druq posessors' do not all actually have druqs and dont deserve to be harrassed when our rights are supposed to protect us from that.

I got pulled last week for running a stop sign. I didnt have my new proof of insurance card and didnt have my seat belt on. I also got a little smart with the cop because he accidentally said the wrong street and I wasnt on that one. He seemed like a total d!ck. Then he walks up with a warning ticket and tells me to have a nice day. I was kinda shocked.
You cant just say that most cops are _____ and ______. You have nothing to base that on. You more than likely have limited experience with police in the first place. Nevermind the number of states and police that you have zero experience with.
But beyond all of that you should have RESPECT for everyone until they give you a reason not to. Period. What you are saying is no different then grouping people by race, gender, sexual preference, education, regionality, religion, hair style, accent, clothing, income, etc...
well i agree i could cange my image to play the game. but im not doing anything wrong.

see you guys can agree on something you both must have a lot of faith in the police and/or justice system if you believe that not doing anything wrong means nothing bad will happen to you.
personally, if there's anything i can do to minimize the risk of being pulled over, i'm going to do it, regardless of whether or not i am doing anything wrong...i just don't have faith in our justice system, so i do everything in my power to stay out of it.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

True I don't have kids, but I'm not 18 shacking up with some friends. I'm 25 and it's just me & my girlfriend of 8 years (go ahead and tell me how we need to go ahead and get married, I need all the affirmation I can get, heheh) and we do rent. We got car payments, insurance, utilities, etc. But two people making 25k a year is a tidy income by anyone's standards. If we had 50K coming into the house every year... that would just be awesome! I know people that take care of their kids on far, FAR less. And they play soccer, football, what have you.
We're both college grads (she's going to grad school) and neither one of us have ever found any entry level jobs paying more than 30K a year. I haven't found one paying even 30K. Maybe I should consider joining the force Do they drug test?
all of those things you listed dont hurt me. income, race, sexual preference, education, etc.... for the most part they arent harming me. they arent violating my rights. cops are. your comparisons make no sense.
i have had my car or the car im riding in searched 5 times. resulting in two arrests. all they wanted was my money. just this past summer we were pulled over for having a license plate light out. it was a homeland security task force. they flat told me that they were pulling over every car that had any infraction as part of a homeland security program. there was 15 cop cars involved. 6 or 7 cars pulled over. 2 dogs. we were asked a bunch of questions. made to stand on the side of the highway waiting for the dogs to get done harrassing others. asked many times if we were detained or could we leave and they told us they were processing our information. it was backed up because of the sting. meanwhile the state cops and homeland security goons invited us back to watch some kid rock video about how not to get busted they were all alughing at. we declined. we refused to consent. but they had the dogs and i got arrested for a small personal amount. all for being a passenger in a car with 1 license plate light out. it still had 1 working and was lit up fine. dosent homeland security have anything better to do with their time??? its disgusting.
no i dont. im not the only person that has these problems. i have dozens of friends that can attest to the same raw deal. many inforooers have told their stories. it happens all the time everyday on every traffic stop. EVERY COP!!!!!! come on man you have to be kidding. this is what every cop is trained to do. they take courses on how to do this. ITS PART OF THE JOB! as far as i know priests arent trained to molest kids, its not part of the job description. same thing with race, sexual orientation, and jesus freeks.
GET THE POINT?!?

they are trained to profile innocent people, trained to find some reason to harrass them, and are trained in ways to trick and intimidate you into refusing your rights. all so they can find some minor infraction you have no reason to be suspected of so thay can take your money. either on the spot as a 'tax" or later in court and through bullshit programs. its their job.

No, you're not profiling them on their looks, but their job. Same thing. Not all cops are bad people.
I also have to think there must be more to your experiences with cops than what you're saying. Are you sure you haven't acted like a d*ck to them and provoked behavior you have mentioned?
I always think it's a foolish thing to say ALL things are a certain way. I've come to learn no one is the same as another, no matter what they look like, what they do, or how they do it. Oh yeah...or how they've been trained.
Saying cops are trained to be corrupt and steal would be taking it a bit far, but they certainly are trained to ignore your rights during an investigation.
It's an old case, 1964, but in summary the evidence in this murder case (a confession, in this case) was suppressed because documents were submitted that proved police are trained to ignore your rights during an investigation.
i am positive i am respectful to them. when we refused to consent to a search the head prick said 'what, you got something against law enforcement?" i responded " no i respect what you guys do, but i dont let strangers go through my stuff when they ask" he said "thats cool"
i am more than repsectful and tell them what they want to hear. my morals allow me to lie to people trying to harm me for no reason. and truth be told the arresting officer could have made my life alot harder. dosent mean i respect him though. it was a freeking license plate light. no reason to investigate a passenger and search a car. it is all cops because its the job. thats what they do. take a look at their training. they are seriously trained in every way there is to profile you and get you to give up your rights so they can search for something to charge you with that you have no reason to be suspected of. thats not my opinion thats a fact.

While they may be trained to ignore your rights, I still don't think it's fair to say that ALL cops are corrupt and out to get the innocent man by profiling their nappy/short/pink/spiked/non-existent hair.
I want to give a shout out to that cop that gave me a ride home when my car exploded on the side of a road going up the mountain. I also want to give a shout out to the cop that came to get the drunk man off my stairs when he showed up at 3am screaming and yelling. I also want to give a shout out to that cop that helped my parents two days ago when someone tried to break in to their house.
I do not want to give a shout out to that cop that pulled over my car with 5 teenagers riding in it when I was 16 because he thought it was stolen...I mean, who steals a Pontiac 6000LE?
" we refused to consent. but they had the dogs and i got arrested for a small personal amount." (Sounds like they did their job, you know, cause even a personal amount is illegal)
"i have had my car or the car im riding in searched 5 times. resulting in two arrests" (Holy Crap! If I were the cops I would pull you or your friends over as much as possible!!! 2 out of five (40 percent) isn't a bad success rate)
"all they wanted was my money" (They also wanted to check for any other laws being broken, and they find them 40 percent of the time, with you and your crew anyway)
Seriously dude, if they have been so bad to you I'm sure the ACLU would jump on your case, probably for free. Then you get all this wrong made right, maybe even revamp the police training program.
Oh, by no means do I agree with the idea that cops are just out to get anyone they can by any means necessary. I live in a big city, I can't see how living here would be possible without a strong police presence. But if you are under investigation (and if a cop is asking questions and wants to go through your stuff, you are under investigation) they are certainly trained to ignore your rights. (see Caselaw link in my above post). It's up to you to make sure they're respected.
like i said if you want proof then just open yer eyes. look into the training that cops get. spend a day watching the cops and how they treat friendly peaceful people going to a concert that brings millions of dollars to their county. they are profiling and investigatign people with dogs when they arent doing anything at all. just so they can take your money. the cops are at their most disgusting when something like bonnaroo or wakarusa is in town. have you talked to anyone who went to wakarusa? probably not many wka goers that have respect for kansas law enforcement. shit man just turn on cops. you can see them in action intimidating people out of their rights. and then when they find something they craxk on the guy for consenting. theres some proof for you to check into.

we were pulled over for a f**king license plate light man! there was no reason for that bullshit. thast whats at issue. if i walk by a cop asmoking a j i expect to be busted. if im a passenger in a car that has 1 license place light out there is no reason to want to search my stuff. or the car. its f**king bullshit and everyone knows it. its against the constitution. if you cant see that then i truly have nothing more to say to you about it. its obvious we are from different worlds.

Your right you would have to be out of your mind to look for illegal substances on people coming into a music festival. Let me guess dude you are against any and all profiling?
