Bestival has announced a new festival in Toronto, which will take place on the city’s Hanlan’s Point Beach.
“We have waited twelve years to decide to launch another Bestival outside of the UK. It took a really special city, and an even more exciting site, with Toronto and Toronto Island, to make us take the leap. So, the waiting is over and we are so excited to be launching in North America in June, with a classic Bestival line-up waiting to thrill, intrigue and party!”

They are only looking at 20,000 people a day which is great for the Island but unless they get a lot of corporate sponsors I doubt they shoot for acts as big as Blur. I was a big fan of the V Fests that were held there as well as the Arcade Fire Suburbs show so I think they have a great chance at building something very unique there.
I think we can expect another small line-up but with Embrace involved probably a good one. I would hope for more of a Moogfest vibe.
My first guesses for acts are along the lines of...
Florence and the Machine, Tame Impala, Grimes, Jungle, SOHN, etc.
It would be amazing if they pried Chemical Bros. or Underworld off the UK edition though
Here's hoping. As it falls on the weekend of Bonnaroo and I'm not going to that this year it would make missing it a lot easier pill to swallow. A good Bestival line-up along with Field Trip the weekend before would make up for the disaster at WayHome

I don't know much about Bestival but the more mini fests in Toronto like this, the better! The music scene continues to blow up and no matter the lineup, I'm just loving that these fests see Toronto as a must enter market. Great for the city and music lovers, bad for the bank account.
2017 Shows Sam Roberts Band, Wilco, Local Natives, Ryan Adams(!), Chance the Rapper, Future Islands, Frightened Rabbit, TOOL, Field Trip Music Festival, Gary Clark Jr., Arkells w/July Talk, Gorillaz, Tom Petty, Metallica, Muse, Incubus, Lollapalooza (!!!),Kings of Leon, Deep Purple & Alice Cooper, Father John Misty, War on Drugs

I really hope they stand by "classic Bestival line-up" and didn't actually mean "like all of the other festivals in North America".
Underworld seems almost certain with a Hollywood Bowl show a week after. Bjork/Underworld would be excellent! I would also like Chic, considering they're releasing a new album this year. And I'm not sure if Bestival booked them before, but Sun Ra Arkestra would be great.

I think we should all expect a much smaller, boutique version of Bestival. I doubt it looks like your standard cheezy EDM festival if by that you mean artist bookings Flanders? T.O. already has that covered with VELD and to a lesser degree Digital Dreams. If you mean cheezy by the over the top nature of production at these other SFX events then perhaps get ready for that. Bestival has built a let's play dress up culture with some unique sketch comedy stages and so forth. Given that Hanlan's Point beach is already a nude beach at the far edge of the island I would suspect that SFX and Embrace chose the spot for specific reasons.
On artist bookings, if they grab Underworld theimportance then I am most certainly going to be there.
SFX involvement makes me think this is gonna be a theatrically-staged EDM blowout. But the Bestival brand and Embrace gives me hope that they'll get some funk or old-school hip-hop -- two genres woefully under-represented in Toronto's quickly-growing festival scene. Either way, I'm sure this is gonna be a spectacle. I would imagine Rob da Bank wants to eventually grow this brand to even bigger markets, and is using Toronto as a test drive. So they'll have every reason to make sure this ain't a flop. Exciting development either way. Very anxious for this lineup next week!

Yeah if you look at what Embrace has done even in the last few years here (expanding into the Danforth Music Hall, helping the Footwork family grow over at Coda) I think we are in good hands for the bookings.
According to Rob da Bank, yes, lineup next week. Sure hope they deliver. This has a chance to be something really special. I know camping on the island would be verrrrrry unlikely, but I would hop on that in an effin' heartbeat if it were offered.
The folks who live on the island can be very uptight about noise. I doubt they'll allow camping, but it would be a lot of fun camping on a nude beach. Mostly because I look amazing naked.
I really hope they stand by "classic Bestival line-up" and didn't actually mean "like all of the other festivals in North America".
So are you saying it is legal "up there" to hold a festival without Kendrick Lamar, Bassnectar, and Hozier? I'm not sure that's legal under US Federal law anymore, unless it includes Warren Haynes (in any form), at least one member of The Grateful Dead, and zero hip-hop.
A couple friends up in Toronto told me they're hearing Bjork and Prodigy among the headliners. Not sure how much I buy the Prodigy rumor tho, looks like they're playing Isle of Wright on Fri. I mean, I guess they could make it for a Sunday set?
Fest is only Friday+Saturday I guess Prodigy could play Saturday Caribou are doing Ireland+Pitchfork on consecutive days so stranger things have happened

Yeah Bjork and Prodigy would be good but selfishly I hope Bjork isn't there as I have already seen her 3 times (2 of which were on the island). I'm still hoping for one of Underworld or Chemical Bros. as they are lined up to top the UK version.
All that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if this festival continues the trend of smaller line-ups
If they pulled off Prodigy and Chem Bros...just take my damn money! When was the last time either of them did a show in the US? Haven't had a chance to hear any of the new Chem Bros but the new Prodigy sounds pretty damn good!

Last time Chemical Brothers played was I think Coachella and Ultra 2011? Seems like they only play the US when Coachella wants them to. Last time The Prodigy played was when they opened for Linkin Park.
