Yep, I've said before that both LSU and Georgia need to study the firing of Phillip Fulmer before they get rid of Miles and Richt. Just don't be so quick to fire a guy who basically wins you a minimum of 9 games a year because there is no guarantee that you will hire someone better. Neither of those guys have had the terrible, bowl-less years that Fulmer had in '05 and '08 either. Crazy to think that Fulmer had both Tajh Boyd and Bryce Petty committed to the Vols when he was fired, and many of his assistants have gone on to have success at other places.
Yeah, that one is waaaaaaaaaaay down the list. Feel bad for Paul Rhoads, he was Pitt's DC for some time during the Walt years and the start of the Wanny years, including the DC the night we destroyed WVU's title hopes in 2007. So I'll always have a soft spot for Paul. I don't really know why a place like Iowa St fires a guy, either.

According to the article, he had seven years and has the second worst win percentage in the Big 12. Getting to bowl games at the start of his tenure set the expectations to get back, so having a three win season (so far) and blowing a big lead in a conference game sealed it for him.
LSU rumor on reddit is Miles will be fired today, with Ed Orgeron being named interim coach for A&M and bowl game.
If this is true then Les Miles must have screwed somebody's wife. Like others have said it's hard to imagine bringing in someone that will be that much better than Miles.

That being said... by all mean LSU. Go for it.
I was talking to my buddy who lives in Baton Rouge (Vol fan tho) and he was saying that a lot of the anger with Miles is, depsite a great overall record, diminishing returns on SEC wins (he is like, 19-12 or something in past 3 years?) they've lost 5 straight to Bama. There is also a lot of frustration in the offense and generally terrible QB play, and Miles' seemingly stubbornness to make changes to the game plan. As a Tennessee fan, I think they are bat-shiz if they fire Miles, and I have no idea who they would get to replace him.
I would find it hilarious if they hired Kiffin and Orgeron ended up being his OC again. But I think that is beyond implausible.
so it looks like Les really is out. I wonder where he will end up, there are some choice openings and he would probably be a top candidate at most of them.
edt: what makes this even more perplexing (at least to an outsider), take a gander at the recruiting rankings for next year: hint: LSU is #1

Oh wow, I didn't even think about that. This is a dream scenario.

This whole thing reminds of the people who wanted Fulmer gone. Fulmer had at least turned in two losing seasons out of three (even though UT won the East the year before). If I was an LSU fan I would take a quick look at Tennessee and Texas and ask myself if that's a risk I'm willing to take.

This is more of a bad idea than firing Fulmer. This is just crazy. But if they get Jimbo, they'll be alright.

A guy in my graduate program runs the VT rivals page and one of the popular VT message boards, says Rich Rod is no longer in consideration. The suppose 3 in the running are Fuente, Mullen, and Chad Morris.
According to him, Babcock just likes Morris. I would be pretty happen with Mullen.
Edit - the filter won't let me say Tech AD actual name!

I've been hearing Fuente all way. My old man said he'd heard the Fuente to VT rumor before Beamer announced his retirement.

Babrooster is hilarious.
That's interesting - when the Pitt job was open last year, there was a rumor that a current P5 coach was interested and the one that we thought it might have been was Dan Mullen. I think he'd be a great hire. Of course I want Tech to screw it up...

^You knew it was going to happen eventually. His name gets thrown around for every coaching vacancy in the South.
I feel like he was like Chad Morris. It's not a matter of if he was going to leave to take a head coaching job. It's a matter of when and where he'll go.
