They put out a tweet today saying that if you wanted presale codes to sign up via Facebook or email. We went last year. This is a traveling concert that switches out DJ's and Rappers throughout the tour. I'm pretty sure it's owned (or was owned) by Diplo. We had a good time last year until some idiot threw a can and hit Dillon Francis in the head splitting him open. I hope that dbag got his ass kicked or got arrested. If you want pre-sale prices (which were in the 25-30.00 range last year, it's www.maddecentblockparty.com/tour They will email you a presale code along with more information about the tour. Presale goes on sale April 13th (next Monday).
Last year's performers included: Outkast, A$AP Ferg, Action Bronson, Bear Mountain, Chance the Rapper, Dillon Francis, Big Gigantic, Mr. Carmack, Griz, Flosstradamus, Keys N Krates, RL Grime, etc. It's not for everybody, but if you like rap and electronica, it was pretty well run here in NOLA.
Dates are:
07/31 - Atlanta, GA 08/01 - Ft. Lauderdale 08/06 - Philadelphia 08/07 - Philadelphia 08/08 - New York City 08/09 - New York City 08/15 - Detroit, MI 08/21 - New Orleans 08/22 - Dallas 08/23 - Austin 08/28 - Nashville 08/29 - Toronto 08/30 - Denver 09/04 - Calgary 09/06 - Vancouver, BC 09/11 - Berkley, CA 09/12 - Eugene, OR 09/13 - San Diego 09/18 - Phoenix 09/19 - Los Angeles 09/20 - Los Angeles 09/26 - Chicago

Toto? Is Loverboy, The Night Rangers and *gasp* Winger on this bill too? Haha. I'm not going to hate, but I wouldn't probably see them.
To be sure, the song Hydra off of the album Hydra was actually pretty good. But I'm not much of a fan elsewise. That's from the era of American pseudo-progressive in the mid/late 70's. The earliest bands like Starcastle were pretty cool. But when it got down to Styx, Kansas, Toto and such, it wasn't that good. I'm not going to impale everything Styx or Kansas ever did, but it was never on the level of King Crimson, Yes or Genesis or anything else they were emulating from the British era of Art Rock. The US version was way more song oriented and the "concept albums" were usually just some existential b.s. Clearly there is some okay stuff there, but, "Rosanna, Rosanna, yeah!" Hahahaha.
Toto + (kind of) Yes in Biloxi will have to win out over this one I think.

While I mostly agree and am not exactly Toto's biggest fan, Keith Carlock > anyone who could possibly be on the Mad Decent bill.

That's not the point. The point is, "I bless the rain down in Affff-rica" or "99, I've been waiting so long..." Hahaha. You can hear that shit on the "soft-rock" or "easy listening" stating any day. I'm not comparing the two musician wise or otherwise except to say I'd go to Mad Decent and have fun, but I'm not going to a casino in MS to see Toto.
Edit Wait, Michael McDonald is on that bill too? Hahahahahahahahahaha

Can someone explain to me the two day idea? Went to the philly one last year, loved it although the venue left much to be desired and chance backed out(Vic Mensa played instead, I'm a fan of Vic but the crowd wasn't into it)

Maybe there is enough demand or maybe they will be different? The site says they'll email you a presale code and more info. That's all I know.
Interestingly enough, a search shows they have a new album Toto XIV coming out this year. How the hell could they possibly have that many albums, and who is buying them? Lounge Lizards?

From their FB Event pages:
"Artist lineups to be announced. Each city will feature a different set of artists. Second day shows in Philly, NYC and LA will have different headliners. Come out for the full weekend!"
Hey yo Jabco, I missed Yes on that list. When we saw them for Cruise to the Edge, it was Steve Howe, Chris Squire. Alan White, Geoff Downs (Buggles, Yes Drama and Asia) and the singer from Glass Hammer out of Nashville. It was good enough in that show 1 was Close to the Edge and Going for the One in their entirety and show 2 was Close to the Edge and Yes album. It wasn't a highlight of the cruise, as nothing was going to touch UK, but it was passable. Still, Yes without Jon Anderson can't ever be really Yes. ----------------- Yeah, not sure about headliners either but Mad Decent was pretty fun last year.

I got an email about this show because Songkick said I was tracking one of the headliners. I only track Alabama Shakes, MMJ, and my friends'bands. None of my friends are playing it so you have either MMJ or the Shakes...I got tickets for both days in Philly.

Uh, no. I can assure you that isn't happening. However, I'll be there 8/6.

LOL I love how they sent me info about the Philly shows saying "Block Party is back!". With updates to the D.C. Facebook page from going to the show at Merriweather last year. Um..... yea that is not really the same thing.

Just saying what I was sent. Lol. Doesn't matter to me; it'll be a good time.

You two are really lucky. My friend and I tried to get both days for that price and missed it. Along with everyone else I've talked to. Oh well, the lineup better be good.

Last year in NOLA we got Big G, RL Grime, UZ, Flosstradamus (brought out waka flaka), A$AP Ferg, Dillon Francis, Wrestlers and Kid K. It wasn't super great or anything, but it was a pretty fun day. They moved our venue this year from Mardi Gras World to Champions Square. It'll be worth the 34.90 for a party Friday day off. It's just that in August here, it could be pretty hot in the concrete jungle.
$32.15 for Jack U, Jauz, What So Not, and more TBA in Philly. Kinda pissed now that I paid $150 for Jack U NYE floor tickets in hindsight as much fun as that was. I'm very happy with my lineup so far.
