Normally I'm not one to stop off on my roadtrp to Bonnaroo, usually because I'm going solo and/or on an eighteen hour drive. This year my drive is shorter (10-12 hrs) and I am taking my brother in law. At 19, he's more than half my age and going to his first real festival so he wants to see a little bit of Nashville while we're relatively close by. I figured that maybe we'd stop for dinner before heading down to Manchester.
I suspect most places will be pretty busy on a Wednesday night during CMA fest but we'll be getting there a little late and if we were willing to wait I found a few places that looked like they might work and wondered if any of you could offer some thoughts.
Right now the list that are considering is:
Loveless Café The Pharmacy Burger Up The Row
I know they are probably on the touristy side. Also, we decided to steer clear of hot chicken since our next bathroom break involves porto potties.

As a former (and soon to be again) local, I'll give my two cents....
Loveless Cafe-----Good, big breakfasts (never had anything else). Definitely touristy, but good solid home cooked food. Expect a long wait at certain times
The Pharmacy---Close to downtown on the East side of the river. Great selection of beer, yummy burgers and homemade brats, cool neighborhood vibe, nice outdoor seating. Bonus points: It's across the street from the best taco shop in Nashville....Mas Tacos Por Favor.
Burger Up-----I went to the Cool Springs location and it was pretty darn good, but I'd choose The Pharmacy over Burger Up for atmosphere, though the location on 12 South might be different.
The Row----Never been.
Maybe other more seasoned locals can chime in and give their advice. If you're spending the night in Nashville, I'd choose The Pharmacy for dinner and head out to Loveless Cafe for a good ol' country breakfast before driving to Bonnaroo.

Thanks! Loveless definitely seemed more breakfast-oriented. We're just making this a pit stop on our trip down so this time it's strictly dinner. I've seen reports of the lines there so maybe that's the clincher on ruling then out!
I live in East Nashville, so my vote is for The Pharmacy. Nothing beats an amazing burger, good beers, and great atmosphere/patio. Be prepared for a wait though. Other good East Nashville options are Tenn 16, Five Points Pizza, Rosepepper's, Silly Goose, and Lockeland Table.

If it were me I would check out Two Ten Jack it is a Izakaya/Ramen place in East Nashville. You can order Ramen or Just sit and order different skewers of grilled meat and things to your table. For instance the grilled garlic preserved in miso is amazing and like 3 bucks a skewer. They also have draft cocktails the One Two or Three that are delicious.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.
Yeah, it seems to be the outlier on my list. It was the first place that popped up when I started to do my research and seemed like a pretty authentic Nashville place to stop at but the location doesn't seem to lend itself to seeing much of Nashville and it sounds like breakfast is its best feature.

Is the wait at The Pharmacy pretty constant? Reviews tend to allude to a wait but I was hoping that it wouldn't be too painful around eightish after a lot of the dinner crowd is wrapping up.

He's a college kid. I'm guessing he will not be thrilled by more Ramen even if it is fancy Ramen.
Flip Burger Boutique is another option. Fairly new. On Charlotte ave in a run down part of town. Really good though. We like our burgers in Nashville if you have not noticed. Name other kinds of food you like and we can make recommendations. I would stay away from downtown during the CMA festival though.

Yeah, that's the problem. I have avoided stopping because I just don't want to deal with the crowds and by that point I'm just so close to setting up camp but he wants to actually see some of the city. I figured that the easiest compromise was to stop off for a later dinner even though it will mean wading through a crowd of CMA attendees.
Burgers seems like the way to go. Normally I would try the local specialty but hot chicken doesn't seem like wise logistical choice. Also, he's a minor and that has crossed a couple of places off the list because they don't let them in after a certain time.
I think that he'll be excited just to be there so we probably can't go wrong but it's always good to get suggestions from people that have been there instead of relying solely on TripAdvisor.
Edit:
FLIP Burger looks like something out of the Jetsons. Future burgers. Super interesting. Thanks for the recommendation!!!
Also, you can get that hot chicken mild you know. We will call you a pussy, but if you can live with that, go for it. Pepper Fire and Hattie B's are good.
Never been to Loveless, but I'd rank your other 3 as:
Pharmacy Burger Up The Row
Burger Republic is als really good
For Burger Republic I want the location on 11th Ave South if I want to stay in the downtown area, right?
Yes. That is the one in the area we call The Gulch. It used to be an industrial area and boring. Now it's upscale, expensive, and impossible to find a place to park. Damn hipsters.

It's not really so much how hot it is but that it seems destined to do a number on old man stomach. Plus I'll end up getting it hot and not mild because I can't stop myself. (You'd think that I would have learned from The Ghost Pepper Incident.)

LOL. That is probably just the experience that my BIL is envisioning!
As far as the wait at the Pharmacy - It might still be crowded around that time, but they usually quote you a longer time than it will really take. We went one busy Saturday afternoon and were told 45 min. They called us within 20. It's worth the wait though. I'm not really a burger person, but they are nothing short of amazing. Try the brats too!

It's starting to sound like the consensus pick!
The Pharmacy is a great choice. The wait has gotten a little crazy the last few times I have been there. However, they take down your phone number for your wait, so I like to hang out during the wait at a pretty nice bar/restaurant directly beside it called Holland House (18 and up establishment).

Cool. Is that area walkable if we just wanted to wander around?

Wellll, aside from The Pharmacy, Holland House, and Mas Tacos, there is not much else around there that is wander-worthy. The heart of East Nashville is about a 20 minute walk from there.

I personally wouldn't want to just wander around if its in the evening. east Nashville isn't the greatest

Holland House is def a good choice to kill the wait time at Pharmacy. Their cocktails are great. We're actually having our rehearsal dinner at Holland House this Friday!
