I realize this may not be to OPs liking, but after reading this thread I've decided that my counterpart and I will be taking off at 1 a.m. local time to arrive in Nashville at 10 am, with enough time to hop in line @ Hatty B's and be one of the first 50 to get their chicken fix! We are staying in a hotel that evening and rolling in Thursday morning so I think this is a gamble worth taking.

That hot chicken could give you port-o-problems early in your Roo '15 experience. Hattie B's is not as potent as Prince's at least and both are delicious.

So I've debated this one, as I'm obviously going to go with the Damn Hot option. We are doing VIP, so I'll have access to premium not sweat swamp stalls. I'm anticipating a long line, we are going to be arriving in the nashville area around 10 am. I'd think that the extra hour to get parking and get in line will leave us stuffed and ready to hit publix then head to murfreesboro by one pm. Does that seem reasonable? Should I consider Prince's?

You'll be fine I'm sure. I've tried Hattie B's and liked it. I also tried Prince's, but made the mistake of ordering their hottest. The guy taking my order drew back kind of in shock. Now, usually hot doesn't bother me at all. I eat jalapeños like they were pickles. As soon as I started eating this chicken tears were pouring out my eyes and my nose was running. I finished it but didn't add any dabs of hot sauce like I normally would. When I went to pay the guy who took my order apogized and told me that I just seemed so confident he thought I must have been to Prince's before and knew what I was getting myself into.

Props to anyone who can down a hot chicken. I can't do it. I don't find pleasure in sweating profusely with snot running from my nose while I eat a meal.

My dad was raised in NO, so I've got a taste for fiery foods. I learned a lot about Szechuan cooking in my early twenties and I feel like that only pushed my obsession with having a snot run nose and tears mid meal. I can't say I'd ever order the hottest option, as it seems to me that the flavor the heat brings is ruined when its pushed (abused) to those limits.

I would think you guys would be good. Keep in mind, too, that Hattie B's opened up an additional location in west Nashville, which has a better parking situation than the one in Midtown.
Prince's is good but the service sucks and the wait times are frustratingly unpredictable.

I did not know about the second location, I'll do some research to find out convenience but is the food the same quality? Will I get authentic Nashville fire hole?

The food is exactly the same at either location. I've been to both and there is no difference.

You couldn't pay me enough to eat hot chicken before going to a festival. No way. That being said - I do love some Hattie B's but Princes is better. The only reason I go to Hattie B's over Prince's is location/atmosphere and they do tenders and Prince's does not.

Is it really going to do that big of a number on my digestion?

They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.

Yes you are going to have multiple trips to the portos with fiery acid streaming out of your balloon knot.

Hahahahaha! I was just going to say you won't feel well, but I guess some people have different reactions.
Okay I get entirely where you guys are coming from, stage 3 firehole basically goes without saying in this instance. With that in mind, with the hotel that night, with the sufficient plumbing most southern Potels have, with the A/C porto's, with the day drinking, with the setting up camp and with trying to wrangle up my chums to head to rubblebucket early in the day, is this a good idea or should I divert? I can't decide! We always leave at like sunrise Monday, so stopping by for lunch on the way out really isn't an option.
I'm a fan of Pepperfire over Hattie B's.... and you don't have to deal with the wait
Anyway, cdevaney, you have a decent list there. Loveless is a bit out of the way, almost out of the county. It's just traditional Southern food. If that's the kind of food you're looking for, I would recommend Monel's or Pucketts. The food at both places is pretty much the equivalent of Loveless (minus the biscuits).
If you plan on hitting downtown for whatever reason, check out Acme Feed & Seed. Reasonably priced and good stuff. There are more options on the second floor, including sushi.
The best burger I've had in town was, strangely, at Fat Bottom Brewery in East Nashville. I would assume your brother-in-law could go in but you might double check. The Pharmacy is good too, but the burgers are not worth the wait. Their orange cream soda, however, is totally worth the wait
I think everyone else has hit on the good places in town. You know where to find me if you need more suggestions!
Wanted to stop back to thank you all for your advice. We ended up at The Row. Right in the middle of a bunch of hoppin' bars. (Free street parking, I'm assuming. All the meters were expired so we just rolled with it.) It was open late so we didn't feel rushed. The service was really good and friendly. They even had the hockey game playing over the bar.
Loved the food, too. My brother in law almost died over the biscuits. Loved the chicken fried chicken, too. On the advice of the server I had the Cowboy Burger instead of the Pimento BLT and swapped out the fries for bacon mac and cheese. I have no regrets. We'd definitely go back.
Thanks to all of you for helping to make this a memorable stop!
(Also randomly found a German Restaurant in Columbus, OH, for lunch. If you're traveling through there, check out Schmidt's!)
