1. Good for AC/SF if they were able to monetize their investment and this wasn't done under duress. Curious how much spread they were able to make. Acquiring the land prior was a brilliant move and would significant increase multiple as its a real asset. 2. While its easy to brand Live Nations as the devil (or any other corporate music entity) I'd say the jury is out. They could royally fuck it up, they could add resources and amplify the message. Time will tell 3. Consolidation has already been happening, to see it rise to the top layer means there are likely to be additional roll ups under GV, LN. New formula Step 1. Start Festival Step 2. ??? Step 3. Profit.
The only shitty thing I see is that you lose some of the creativity on the talent buying side when nothing is independent any more, but I imagine its highly likely that the competition and contractual limitations were becoming cumbersome and it was a measured decision to see greater things happen under the larger tent of LN.
You're the fucking worst.
I'm glad we have built a rivalry. It makes my time here more fun. Kisses

coanbread751 may very well be a Jamband fan. I'm sure he enjoys those acts. The main aspect he highlighted about his Roo experiences that he couldn't get at another festival were things like Radiohead's 2006 set, MMJ playing for four hours after midnight in the rain, the epic collaborations a SuperJam can bring, and discovering a band like Mars Volta at 2 am. I think his concern was More about Bonnaroo losing its uniqueness and not about it moving away from a jam scene.

Well the MMJ set was unique, and I assume Radiohead's as well though it was before my time. But the other two still happen. The last 3 years have provided among the best Superjams ever including a reoccuring Bluegrass Superjam. And this year at 2 a.m. is D'Angelo and Flying Lotus - artists with as much originality and ability to blow minds as the Mars Volta in their prime.

Yeah, it's almost like the last few years haven't featured the consensus best superjams ever (Jim James and D'Angel0), or what many consider to be Jack White's best show ever, or rare festival appearances from the legendary Nick Cave during LN, or Paul McCartney, or Bjork, or Bobby Womack's last show. Now that Bonnaroo is Coachella East none of those things happen anymore.

I think more good can come out of this as long as we don't get that damn batting cage they used to have. Maybe this means bringing back the Art if Such & Such since they will have deeper pockets!

What's your problem with the batting cage? I didn't use it but thought that's a cool activity to have.

Just perfer other things...loike bringing back the Art of Such & Such. More Art is truly needed at Bonnaroo IMO.

Right, but they tend to have other things to do and I don't believe one is dependent on the other. They could have the Art of Such & Such and a batting cage if they want. They just have chosen not to.

I can't defend the Coachella East comment. I do hope to see more 2+ hour sets. The late nights will always be happening with the private property aspect. The comment you made earlier holds true. It's more of a shift in what an individual is looking for from Roo than the festival itself changing that causes most displeasement with its current iteration.

Big bummer hearing of the sell out, guys you guys are radiating something besides positivity now. "People see rock and roll as, as youth culture, and when youth culture becomes monopolised by big business, what are the youth to do? Do you, do you have any idea? I think we should destroy the bogus capitalist process that is destroying youth culture."
Oh neat. Google tells me that is from Thurston Moore. He has played Bonnaroo with Sonic Youth. I bet he'll play there again in the future.
