Anyone care to share past experiences? I remember Wu-Tang got rained out a couple years ago but that's about all I know of this festival. This lineup is pretty enticing...
Nice gets with Chem Bros and D'Angelo. Gonna wait till the daily comes out and see if I can swing a single day. Can't afford another 3 day fest right now. Given their past booking, anyone got a clue who the rock add could be? Modest Mouse if they're not at Riot?

I went the first 3 yrs, with the first yr being the best. Chem Bros were one of the headliners. Disco Biscuits were another. (Bisco late night was the shit that year - Jay Electronica (opened) was booed off the stage) That Chem Bros show was one of the best times I've ever had. Their background vids are amazing. It can get a little tight in Union Park, but when you have a chance to see one of the best, set aside those fears.
The "L" is right by the park. Anyone that lives in the Chi knows this is the way to go.
I was fortunate enough to stay at my friends condo, which was only a 1/2 mile away, all three times. Rates, just like for Lolla, can get high.
Some of my most happiest moments for live music have occurred around this fest. I'm very happy to see them even out the lineup this year, and slow down on the all-out EDM
Great food in the fest. Great food in the Chi.
Cross D'Angelo off my list? Yessir
Widespread would be a bit of a stretch.
I've already decided I will be participating again this year. CAN'T FUNKING WAIT TO SWOOOOOOOOOOOOON AGAIN

Everything about that after party was nuttz! From every cabbie dropping off their people at the Congress pizzeria instead of the Congress theater, to the cluster fuck out front with everyone showing up at the same time and causing a bottleneck, to j electronica getting boooed, to the craziness that disco put on that night.
I was told to never walk around Chicago in the loop during the overnight. I did on the first night. If you folks remember correctly, that weekend was only a few months after a certain 'infamous' street artist visited the Chi.
I walked right by one of the "rats" during this trek inside the loop - I don't know if it was his, but the pic is on the web. Showed up at the same time, at least.
Sorry, I have a lot of randoms during that weekend.

I went to the first three North Coasts, and I always had a great time, whether at the fest itself or at one of the off-site late nights. (I also was at that infamous Jay Electronica show. That one went downhill quickly). I didn't go last year because I picked Lockn instead, but I always liked the location (We'd get a place downtown and just hope on the L to the park). Some people on here have complained about the crowds in the past, but for me that kind of thing is what you make of it. The one instance my crew had a problem with an annoying person, we just moved away. Just getting The Chemical Brothers was enough to lure me back this year, but I think this initial lineup drop is one of their best, from Portugal. the Man to The Roots to Chromeo, Galactic and Macy Gray, etc. I think they really stepped it up this year.

I actually think it will keep some of the youngins away, in regards to your crowds comment
I've seen a lot of the younger crowd rush to get rid of their tix online. "Who are D'Angelo and the Vanguard" - Makes me smh
Mannnnnnn, every time I think about the lineup, I hug myself. Warmly.
Scored a "early bird" from a lovely online - she put it up a few hrs after the lineup dropped. "I only know a few bands" - WTF????
I don't know if I'll be able to resist this fest. I wonder what kinda level rock headliner we're talking about...
Anyone done VIP? How are these viewing areas? Not too much more $$$ than GA, it's got me curious.
The VIP used to be easier viewing areas, w movement in between the two main stages. I haven't been in a few yrs, but my buddy said it's still the same. Mainly side stage and down in front of stages on corners that are closest to each other, hence the quick access.
Wild First Guess on Rock Headliner - New Order (They were rumored strongly a while back for the 2nd or 3rd yr, but never came to fruition - and no, I don't expect it)
Dreaming in la la land Second Guesses - Prince (I can hope, right?) or Beck
I would love to see Thievery Corp added, since it's their 20th Anny, and they've played the fest before - Does anyone know if this would be ok (w clauses), since they're playing Chicago in July?

I'd love to see Thievery added as well. The last time they played there it was on the tree-lined stage in the back and it was a big dance party. And the nice thing about this fest is if some of the crowd just isn't into D'Angelo, they can always go to another stage, leaving more room for me to get close!
Someone please tell me I am being old, paranoid and ridiculous for being slightly worried at the amount of out-of-control youngsters I'm seeing in videos and reviews from last year. Never been to NCMF before, and I can ill afford a buncha wacked-out kids in braces killing my D'Angelo buzz.

That Thievery show is my second fav of this fest. It was a complete, groovy time. 3rd fav- The Rapture (right before they broke up)

I'm happy with the addition, but my wife is not: She hates WSP, and now they're headlining two festivals we're hitting this summer, North Coast and Forecastle. At least she can hang her hat on the fact both fests have second stages going during the headliners. ...

I see a Panic late night in our future
They have all three days listed on their site
Whatever day they play, that day is going to be a day of funk. All. Day. Long. Look at the # of bands on this lineup that get dowwwwwn.
