Fuuuuuck. Thanks for the reminder. Huge isn't even the word to use. There's a reason the city is shutting down.
Sooooo Yo La?

yo la tengo? more like YOLO TENGO!!! (sure, why not!)
also. wtf is this bike race, even? I only know about it because someone on my program's facebook group asked if we would have class.
Hey local folk! Any recommendations to eat around Lincoln Theater/ U Street Music Hall? smellycat and I are 100% in for Yo La Tengo and will be in need of some noms beforehand.

Go to Satellite Room (diner style) or American Ice (BBQ). You'll also be right next door to Ben's Chili Bowl, but I'd save that for drunk eats.

I'm working on fine tuning this trip coming from Pittsburgh. So far, I think I can manage taking off some classes and a day of work to make it down but what are some of your plans as to where you are staying, parking and transportation. I don't plan on this entire thing being mapped out but I'm looking for some suggestions and ideas. Definitely want to make this work out as smoothly as possible.
Also, if anyone in the area would be looking to take in myself and a friend or even offer up some parking it would be much obliged.

I would personally recommend Busboys and Poets, if ur tryna be hip. Aka eat your dinner inside a book store. Which is precisely as hipster yet cute as it sounds.

If it's nice enough to walk, head up U St toward 14th. There's actually an &Pizza right across from the theatre and then a gastropub, Fainting Goat right on U between 13th and 14th. But if you turn down 14th, there's a bunch of good places. Bar Pilar is really cool, though I haven't been there since they redid it. Cafe Saint-Ex is loud with music but has a couple of decent items, and across from the Black Cat if you want breakfast for dinner is Ted's Bulletin - homemade pop tarts are good. Right next to Black Cat is El Centro DF which has great tacos and cheesy or cilantro rice (both good) and it's a decent tequileria with a cool basement cavern and outdoor patios. Oh and there's the Adams Morgan specialty - Amsterdam Falafel (but like Ben's better for post-drinknig, late night noshing) Like Horn said though - Ben's Chili bowl is literally right across the alley from the Lincoln and the American Ice Company has ok barbecue and is only 4-5 blocks away heading towards 9:30. And the Satellite Room is literally attached to the 9:30 Club and has some surprisingly good food. And milkshakes.

Tom is underselling the quality of the BBQ at American Ice, particularly the pork nachos.
Speaking of Nachos, Right Proper has pork rind nachos, although that's getting a it far from the Lincoln.
Oh wait, yeah! You guys should do Right Proper. Really great brewery with excellent food; they do half pours of all their beers so you can sample around. It is further down off of U near 9:30 Club, yeah but it really isn't that far of a walk away from Lincoln. Not more than 15 mins for sure.

Sounds like a plan to me. I think it's an earlier show (8 pm-ish) but I'm always up for a good meet up.

I'm sure Monie agrees with you. Since having kids, I've decided sleep > shows.
Also: thanks for all the suggestions. I need to go through menus but that all sounds delicious.
I'm probably down for a dinner thang too, or brunch before going in on Saturday or Sunday, depending on what my plans are with the friend crew (at least one friend is flying in for it, and then two of my roomies are coming too). D.C. is kinda weirdly/excessively obsessed with brunch - don't get me wrong, I love it too, but D.C. as a city reallllllly loves it. There are about 80 super solid brunch spot options.

Ok I am now officially going to be joining all of you for a wonderful weekend in DC next month. Time for me to really kick my excitement into high gear and do some listening to the artists I don't know as well.

So I bought 2 tickets but am not going to be able to go now. I'm looking to sell at cost if anyone is interested. I got them at the $150 price, so $300 for both. PM me!

am i the only one who's confused as to where they're getting these crowd shots from that they're using in these promotion pictures considering this is the first landmark.

I'm actually expecting the schedule to be pretty light and easy. 5 stages for 20ish bands a day shouldn't be too conflict heavy but some overlap with each.
