Finishing up our packing list and have a question. Is a camping stove a must have? I can only imagine using it for breakfast, and I am considering not picking one up because I would
A. have to buy it. B. space comes at a premium C. we dont camp regularly, so it would likely not get a lot of use (I did camp for years but we havent in the last 7 years)
Would like to know your thoughts. Is it a must have or can I score a warm breakfast and coffee from vendors?

If it's your first Bonnaroo, I don't recommend it. It's easier to go to vendors and buy breakfast items or bring a cold breakfast. It is handy to have once you know what to expect from Bonnaroo (2nd year on)

As far as the B goes, a camp stove isn't much of a space factor. It can easily be slid in anywhere you have a sliver of space after everything's packed. However, since you would have to purchase it, I'd say pass on it. Most everyone on here speaks highly of the food vendors anyway.

We packed a stove and portable gas grill last year. By the time you buy food, worry about trying to keep it cold, hassle with the mess it's just not worth it. Not doing it this year. There is so much good food in Centeroo. Food vendors take my money.
I have deleted a camp stove from my festival list. It's not needed. And don't go to the vendors for health reasons.
But I've found that fresh fruit, veggies, hummus, and trail mix have provided a better form of energy than a greasy hot platter of food.
Not to say that some of the vendor choices aren't well done...but becaus of the all day out in the sun and constant walking...I like it better when I don't enter a food coma.
if you can, borrow one. that's what i did my first year. and i didn't use it once, it was just too hot to even think about turning on a flame. so i've never brought one again.
I've used both a propane camp stove and a propane camp grill (both coleman). We had the grill for tailgating events. I like having them to make a ton of bacon, eggs, and coffee in the morning. I don't like to eat too much during the day besides snacks (trail mix, nuts, oranges, beef jerky) so I like a big breakfast to carry me through to dusk when it cools down a bit. At this point, it is a necessity for our group because we like big breakfasts. Before the stove though, we survived just fine on bagels and croissants and peanut butter and jelly.
camp stove is nice though for one pot meals as well, like rice a roni type stuff. It's rare I see all 3 headliners in a given year, so usually I cook myself a decent dinner before LN one night.
I'm not too into buying food from vendors (not that most isn't delicious) but I like to spend my money in the brooer's tent.
If you're going in a large group, it can be nice to have for breakfast and late-night snacks, but it's not a must-have. The vendor food is decent and relatively inexpensive, and it's not worth schlepping back to camp just for lunch and dinner.
Yeah, at my first Bonnaroo (2010), I brought a camp stove. We put on water to boil for coffee, opened a few beers and took a few hits... Decided we didn't need coffee. Monday morning rolled around and the stove was still sitting out with the same water on top. I never brought my stove to Roo again. Now that being said, my main Roo buddy DOES bring his each each and really enjoys making bacon/sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches. Now, I am way too lazy/hot to cook one there, but if it'll magically appear in front of me? SOLD.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Chances are you might not even unpack it. Usually a few vendors within each campground with breakfast options and coffee.
I wouldn't bring a ton of food either. Small snacks (granola bars, mixed nuts, pistachios) are nice but don't go crazy and blow your load in the grocery store.

Good life advice not exclusive to Roo.
Thanks a lot, where were you in 2011 when I got banned from the denton piggly wiggly?? I wanted to stop but it was just so wiggly.
Can we take a minute to grieve the loss of the Whole Foods Market inside of centeroo? Nothing beat a frozen strawberry fruit bar when it was scorching hot.

I went to Floydfest two years ago and since I rode with some friends I was mindful of space so didn't bring my usual stuff such as my stove and rain boots. Of course it rained, and all I had was cold food and no way to get a warm meal without trudging through mud in pouring rain in flip flops to the food vendors. Lesson learned--take a stove and rain boots--even if you don't take it out of your car you will wish you had it if you didn't bring it.
We are planning to bring our small tailgating grill so that we can heat up these burritos (http://www.frenchtoasty.com/campfire-breakfast-burritos/) and make hot sandwiches with our pie irons (http://www.amazon.com/Toas-Tite-79357-Sandwich-Grill/dp/B005XOYUSQ/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1431989543&sr=8-9&keywords=campfire+pie+irons) for lunch or dinner a couple of days. Other than that we are planning on packing fruits/veggies/hummus/snacks. Does this sound unreasonable?
I bought a propane stove a couple years ago, and haven't been back to Roo to use it. I've gotten by on the vendors every year(5 of em!), besides basic snacks and drinks. You really don't have to spend the money if you won't use it after the fest.

My opinion: Definitely Not. I did some grilling, etc. my first year but didn't even bother to bring one for the last ten. There is so much food there and it is generally reasonably priced. I spend my mornings trying to get as much sleep and rest as I can. Hanging around a hot stove is not something I am at all interested in doing.

It's not a "must have" but we've taken one every year, I think. First we bought a Coleman "Party Grill" which was a great size and came with a bag to put all the parts in, but the leg broke and it was too much of a pain in the ass to try to find a replacement leg, so I bought a $20 Propane Grill from Aldi and it's lasted the last three years and still going. We use ours in the morning for egg sandwiches(with pre-made scrambled egg patties), bacon, to warm Pop Tarts and then again at lunch for Sausage, Hot Dogs, Sloppy Joes, etc. Saves us a lot of money over the weekend by only eating one meal and "snacks" inside Centeroo.

In my nine previous 'roos, I've done some with a propane stove and some without - and been content both ways. On the pro-stove side, it's nice to be able to cook/warm up up pre-made breakfast burritos, make soup, burgers, etc. On the other side, I've gotten by pre making a bunch of pasta salad full of ham and veggies and bbq pulled chicken and throwing it in my cooler full of frozen ice and subsisting on that and Cliff bars, nut and granola mixes, etc. No cleanup, and I don't have to worry about cooking in the heat. I'm going the no-stove route again this year.

If you bring the stove, don't forget to take factor in the time to wash the dishes. Not worth the effort in my opinion. Everyone wants to eat, then there is a big mess no one want to clean up. Cooking at bonnaroo is more trouble than it is worth,

I take a stove and do eggs and chorizo burritos. Along with bacon for anyone who is awake and in need. It's simple for me. Let's me save some taxi fares.

I stopped in that Whole Foods tent inside Centeroo for oranges and bananas during my first Roo in '09. It was gone the next year. I don't know how many years Whole Foods had been at Bonnaroo before '09 or if it's CEO's anti-Obamacare stance and the following controversy from August of that year had anything to do with it leaving, but I miss that morning fruit. Strawberry Fields Forever works in a bind.
