I have a question about carpooling. My friends and I each got our tickets at different times so in theory, we should all get a campsite. I have read/heard that because we are carpooling (from northern WI), we will only get one campsite for the four of us (which sucks because we have a lot of gear and a big ass tent). Is this true? Is there a way we can each get a campsite, possibly by lettings the tollbooth person know? I have also heard that people get out and walk behind the car they are riding in so that they get their own campsite but then there is the issue of possibly not being able to camp together due to the multiple check-ins. Any information is greatly appreciated. I want our first time at Bonnaroo to be one to remember (together, preferably).
Yes, you get one space per car. It all usually works out okay in the end but it can be a bit tight sometimes depending on how close you are parked to others and how your neighbors are. I suspect that we're looking at a lighter year in terms of attendance so you may have a bit more space than in years past.
The tollboth person will just be responsible for checking your vehicle and wristbands and won't really have an impact on your camping location. The parking attendants tend to be pretty militant, in my experience, and no amount of trying to use logic or appealing to their better angels will likely change their parking philosophy. The only thing that I can suggest is trying to pull into your parking spot a bit wide and then immediately open your doors so that the person pulling in next to you is also inclined to pull in wide. That may buy you a few feet. If you have an experienced parking attendant they might call you on it, though.
I haven't heard anything about people walking in to try and take up an additional camping space in place of a car. It does not sound like a good plan, though.
Do they give you a sticker or something that states how many campsites your group gets? Once we got into the campgrounds, couldn't some of us get out and walk? I guess I am confused on how it all works. You'd think that carpooling would be rewarded with extra space. The tent we have is 20 ft long and definitely won't fit in one spot.

No, each vehicle gets one camping spot that I believe is essentially the width of their vehicle X ten feet. I'm not certain that those are the exact dimensions but it's close. Confusingly, I cannot find the info on their website to quote for you, though I'm certain that it was there in the past.
I agree with you that carpooling should be rewarded with extra space but in reality there is more of an incentive to have four people each take their own vehicle than there is to have four people in one vehicle in terms of camping space.
I'm having trouble finding a clear aerial picture that shows how camping plays out but this gives a bit of an idea. You will park your vehicle and then be camping either in front of or behind it:
Thank you for your help. Do you know if tent-only camping would allow us to have all of our individual camping spots? or at least more space?
The good news is that space is unlimited in Tent Only.
The bad news is that space is limited in Tent Only.
By that I mean that you have no restrictions to the size of your campsite in Tent Only but the Tent Only camping area is not huge and seems to be shrinking every year. As it is now the size of one "block" minus a number of vendor spaces I can't see it getting much smaller than it was last year, though they could throw more vendors in that space.
The challenge with Tent Only is that you cannot drive to it. You go where they put you and then you haul your stuff there. There is also one section which remains in "quarantine" until it is completely full because they are concerned about people getting hit by oncoming traffic. [Edit: it has been mentioned that they are working on a fix for the quarantine but I'm not sure if they have implemented it yet.]
That said, it's probably the best solution for your dilemma. Assuming that you are willing to carry your stuff there, you arrive before it fills up (usually sometime before Thursday morning) and you don't get stuck in the quarantine zone (and there is no sure-fire way to avoid it besides arriving sometime on Thursday), you should do that.

Hm, after seeing that particular shot of GA I'm a little concerned about my canopy fitting. I had planned on setting up the canopy and then having my tent entrance underneath the canopy. Am I going to have an issue?

Do you mean the tent is going to be totally under the canopy just with the entrances to both aligning or do you mean you were going to set them up next to each other? The former should probably be fine. The latter would probably be an issue.

My plan had been to have the tent entrance underneath the canopy with the back of it sticking out. If that's going to be an issue my Plan B is to just have the tent in case of monsoon, but not set it up otherwise. I'll be able to set it up under the canopy if we get some rough weather.

It's good to have multiple options just in case what you want to do doesn't work out. You never know. One of your neighbors may completely abandon their spot for tent only or they may have 6 people in their car and ask to go over into your spot in exchange for a weekend's supply of beer.

If you get to the farm past 9am on Thursday, you probably won't find a tent only spot for you and all your friends. I went by myself in 2012 and had to camp on the dirt road in my 3 person tent (no canopy or anything) because by the time I got there (10am) tent only was packed.
The only way to guarantee a certain amount of space for you and your friends (by person instead of vehicle) is to do "groop camping"
Yeah we are leaving Northern WI around 11pm on the 9th. Its roughly a 15 hour drive so as long as there aren't any issues on the way, we will be getting there before 8pm on the 10th. Does anyone have a clue as to how far we would have to lug our stuff from parking to tent-only if we chose that route? Also, without having to carry everything of value on on, is there any tricks to hiding belongings so that people don't potentially take it? I read that there are lockers but I'm assuming they are spendy.

You'll be put in POD1 and have to wait until morning to hike it to TO. You can get a tent lock.

It'll vary. The likely answer is that it will take about forty minutes but you could end up much closer or a bit further. There is also the wildcard of traffic. You may scoot right in or you may end up stuck in traffic for eight hours. Bonnaroo traffic is fickle mistress.
