Hey everyone! This will be my second year at Roo, so I'm trying to pack less when it comes to food and all that since I now know how to navigate Centeroo's dining options. In your experience, what's the most non-perishable food that you've had on the farm that fills you up, gives you the nutrition needed to survive the afternoon, and is decently cheap?
This year is my first festival in an RV so I'm gonna be cooking all my food because of the stove top and having a fridge. But my normal festival food has always consisted of pre cooked chicken, sliced up and frozen and pre cooked bacon. Then at the fest warm the chicken in a skillet and make chicken bacon ranch wraps all weekend. Throw in lettuce, tomato, cheese, and some veggies and u get everything u need. I am a creature of habit so I don't get tired of it for four days, and it's pretty simple to make.
1/30: Cold War Kids
2/6: Cherub
4/22: The Mountain Goats
5/25: Laura Jane Grace "Killing Me Loudly"
5/31: The Decemberists
6/11-6/14: BONNAROO 2015
6/28: Against Me!
6/30: Against Me!
To begin, I hate, hate, hate cooking/attempting to keep food good at festivals. I know some people really like to cook out there, but IMO it's just a lot of headache to deal with. It's extra packing, extra planning, extra cooler space (very important), set up, clean up and the result isn't even up to par with festival foods.
The food I typically bring out there: Beef Jerky, Trail Mix, Chips, Fruit/Energy Bars, Fiber One Bars (fiber is your friend), Crackers, Easily stored fruits, Mini Muffins (personal fave), Canned vegetables (kinda offputting when warm, but I choke down a can a day). Basically, I spend the whole morning munching on all these snacks to get a good base of energy and food to drink on. I'll supplement that with dinner in Centeroo. Trust that you won't want to go back to camp in the evening.
One of my favorite things to bring into Centeroo are Sport Beans. They are jelly beans with vitamins, electrolytes and caffeine. They give you a real pick me up when you are starting to feel drained and the sweetness wards off cotton mouth as well.
