How does that make Sigur Ros less likely? All I see is they're playing festivals in Europe a week after Bonnaroo.
Because if they're playing festivals in Europe in June, then they're likely playing Primavera BEFORE Roo, and aren't about to fly over the pond just for Roo, then fly back.

I mean if they play Primavera you're probably right, but it feels like plenty of acts play Bonnaroo then go play in Europe. Darkside played Bonnaroo in between Primavera and another European festival. Seems premature to count them out.

Also, Pinkpop or Orange Warsaw would fit with the logistics of what they've released so far.

Well if Dead & Co. close Sunday then they'll get two sets, so whoever pre's for them on What will get an earlier than usual set time. They could put the Avetts there but I think it's just as likely the Avetts pre on What for some other headliner. IIRC in 2012 didn't they pre for Radiohead on Friday? The flow of the bands on a stage doesn't have to make sense.
Pretty sure the Avetts have to be on What, a Which set would be a disaster crowd wise.
Looks like Sigur Rós is out sadly. They tweeted about hitting up a ton of festivals but they are all in Europe. To be fair they don't start until June 16th, but unless they are in Coachella's lineup or something in the US I would say they are out. Excited about how they are gonna work on the new album though!

I think they played before the pre-headliner in 2012. Also, really I don't think playing Which would be an issue. Sure, it would be a large crowd, but there are plenty of acts who have closed Which over the years and were at least as popular as the Avetts are now.

Rodrigo y Gabriela with CUBA opened for Radiohead in '12. I don't know how many times Avetts have played Roo since I started going, but I've never seen them. I considered them in '10, but didn't want to leave that great folk lineup in This (or was it That) that year and up-and-comers Mumford and Sons were playing there at the same time.

Either way, I'd much rather have Robin Pecknold get his shit together, re-form Fleet Foxes, and fill the spot that is now likely to be occupied by The Avett Brothers. But you can't always get what you want.

Graduating from Columbia isn't getting your shit together??

Oh, I give him credit for going back to school to complete an undergraduate degree. Not easy to do when you've been living a very different life for 5-6 years. I'm just being a greedy music fan and hoping that he'll finish his studies soon so that he can grace us with more beautiful Fleet Foxes music.
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

No offense intended here but I'm always shocked to see how much attention Fleet Foxes still get. They only have two albums and an EP and haven't released anything in four years. Not to mention the last update from Robin came a year ago and he was pretty noncommittal about releasing music.
I mean yea, they were pretty good but my God. I feel like I ALWAYS see people pining for their return.

As the person who brought up Fleet Foxes in the first place, I'll take a stab at this. Personally, I didn't get into Fleet Foxes until after they wrapped up their last round of touring. I've since become a huge fan of their catalog, and I'm frustrated that I may never get a chance to see them live. And although they only released two full studio albums, both were terrific, and so it feels like they've left a lot on the table by not pursuing a third album. Not to mention the fact that they were hard to catch on the U.S. festival circuit even when they were active.

All of this. I got really into Helplessness Blues near the end of the touring cycle and their Boston show was sold out so I couldn't see them. But that album remains one of my all time favorites, and the EP and self-titled are both really strong as well. It also has a lot to do with the fact that they never ended or anything. J Tillz left, Robin seemed to have a bit of a rough breakup with a girlfriend, and then they just disappeared. If they do ever return, I imagine it'll be quite big. Much like Bon Iver

Oh I don't fault anyone for being a big fan of Fleet Foxes. I meant I was more surprised to see them get talked about year in and year out as a hopeful band. Daft Punk, Prince, Bowie et al. make sense because they're legendary bands. Fleet Foxes definitely do not occupy that same status and have given no indication they care about music right now yet I still see tons of people hoping for them every year. It's just kinda weird to me.

I think the only reason some of us hold onto a glimmer of hope that they will eventually re-form is because they were never candid about their intentions after their second album. First, Josh Tillman left the band. Then it looked like they were beginning to work on a new album. After about a year of silence, Robin revealed that he had returned to school to pursue an undergraduate degree. So the most frustrating aspect is the lack of closure. And I respectfully disagree that "it's just kinda weird" to hope for new music from a band on the ascent who released two critically acclaimed albums, but dropped off the face of the earth with no advanced notice.
P.S. I was also kind of mocking myself in pining for a Fleet Foxes return. I've reached the point where I've begrudgingly accepted that we may never see another Fleet Foxes album again.

Not weird to hope for new music. That's entirely reasonable. Weird was in reference to hoping they'll be on lineups when they haven't put out any music in four years.
It's not a big deal. I have plenty of unrealistic hopes every year too.
