Last year I woke up with a fever on Saturday. I nursed it for a few hours but couldn't shake it. Finally, I had to call for a ride to the medic tent (for which i was charged). I went to a small medic tent where they asked me some basic questions, then took me to the main Medic tent. By the time I arrived, I was struggling bad. They put me on a cot in the air conditioned tent. I shook pretty violently because of the drastic temperature change. They gave me a paper thin blanket with a blood stain on it. At this point, I was told by at least 4 emt's, everyone who's ear I could get, that I didn't have a fever. Keep in mind that I had just finished (within the last year) two semesters of Anatomy & Physiology. I was pretty certain I had a fever. The second most frustrating part was that I was told they had no thermometers, anywhere!? I was essentially asked to leave, (I couldn't have stayed in the cold anyway because of my fever). At this point I could barely walk, and wasn't offered a ride. As I sat with my two friends, a girl sitting beside us who had received treatment happened to have a thermometer. 105 degrees. It was under the armpit, and I've read mixed opinions about whether to subtract a degree, so maybe 104. The MOST frustrating thing is that after getting my temperature, my friends, the girl with the thermometer, and I were freaking out. Not yelling or being irrational, but basically pleas for help. I was completely ignored. Literally, they wouldn't talk to me. They wouldn't even call a golf cart to take us to my friend's car so he could drive me to the hospital. After about 30 minutes of this, I said to just call the ambulance. I'm convinced I could've seized up on the spot and died before anyone there would have lifted a finger. 4 hours in the hospital pushing fluids and I got my temp down to 101 and was let out, luckily. I'm still not sure what brought the fever on. Speculate if you like, but after speaking to multiple nurse/doctor friends who go to festivals, it was likely just a bug, probably brought on from sharing a camelback with concertgoers Friday night. I felt ok the next day, albeit too exhausted to drive, much less return to the fest. Luckily, my friends were cool and stayed with me at the hotel. It sucks because I still think I did everything I could. Had I died, like the 10 or so other people, it would have been written off as my fault because I had ___ in my system. I won't harp on this last point beyond saying that I am, and was that night very careful. I didn't go very hard. Again, speculate if you like, but I was being very careful, as always. This was my tenth festival. I contacted Bonnaroo administration multiple times. They said they were looking into it but the last time they said that was at least six months ago. Needless to say, I"m extremely dissappointed by their lack of response and the abhorrent medical treatment I received. I will probably go back. Not this year, but I hope everyone has an amazing time!
TL;TD Got a fever. Received terrible care, was told I didn't have a fever and there were no thermometers on premises. Found thermometer, had 105 degree temp, after which I still received no help from Bonnaroo medical. Didn't die. Please, bring an extra thermometer or two! Look after each other. Had it not been for the sweet girl outside the tent, I would have stumbled back to my car and faced potential brain damage or worse.
