Depends on when you consider Pink Floyd to be in their prime. MMJ are better every other time but that. For example, the period when Syd and David were both in Pink Floyd was weaker then Evil Urges MMJ(even with Waters' help.) BUT Pink Floyd was better then any version of MMJ back when Syd would just randomly show up in the studio in the 70s. Maybe?
I'd love to see them tour and play 2+ hours, which is the only way it'd be worth discussing how they stand against vintage Floyd. The Newport performance was great in an entirely different way than Pink Floyd are/were. It's hard to judge a very special one-off performance against one of the biggest bands of all time

My first thought when I saw the schedule and the only problem I could've had with the show, had I gone, was the fact that Roger Waters only played for like an hour. With the length of a lot of Pink Floyd's songs, that's not that much time and that doesn't even account for the time taken by his solo material (I believe he did a couple solo songs.) and that is more than fine with me and I'm sure it was great. But, if I ever saw the show, I'd really hope it was a minimum of 2 hours with 90% Pink Floyd material.
If Roger Waters asked politely, do you think Jim James would let him join MMJ?
Maybeeee, if he wrote him a heartfelt letter expressing his desire to join, Yim Yames might be cool with it. Honestly though, idk that the other members of MMJ would be cool with it
if we are going to talk about mashups what is better Water and MMJ or Page and the Black Crowes. (Hint it is Pages & Crowes )
There was nobody talking about other "mashups". The question to your answer would be "Who is better, Led Zeppelin or The Black Crowes w/ Jimmy Page" in relation to the purpose of this thread.
And honestly, even if your question was considered, it's a toss up depending on your personal taste.
i see what you are saying. i was going with who i think sounds more like the original band.
Well sure, but Waters and MMJ weren't really trying to sound like Pink Floyd. Half the songs they played weren't Floyd songs. But "Brain Damage/Eclipse" sounded pretty damn spot on.
