The best part of Elton's set was when somebody let go of a Buzz Lightyear balloon during Rocketman. Best part of Joel's set was Piano Man into Uptown Girl into Still Rock and Roll to me.. Both weren't exactly amazing. But I enjoyed Joel more.

This basically sums up how I feel. Except I just had a much better crowd experience at Billy Joel than I did at Elton John. So I ended up having 10 times more fun at Billy Joel.

I can't help but feel if they wore body morphsuits instead of coming armed with three piece suit with custom bidazzled names and a fly swatter? Perhaps it would have been a little better.
When i saw jilly walk out with a fly swatter and take a few swings then giggle at the camera, my initial reaction was "Ha! Well fuck you too guy.."
For Elton John my expectations were way too high. That scene in Almost Famous where they are singing Tiny Dancer....yeah I thought it'd be like that. Instead I got stuck in the back of the What field with a bunch of drunk assholes I couldn't escape. Meanwhile Elton can barely sing his songs anymore, and has the most boring backup band on Earth. The most memorable part of the show was almost getting hit by one of those sky lanterns, and then of course Buzz Lightyear during Rocket Man. But I can still respect that some people really enjoyed his show. With Billy Joel, well obviously he didn't come close to playing his full set and didn't perform all of his hits. He's also pretty out of shape. But if it's one expectation that was safe to have for Billy Joel....it's that he'd play all of his hits. Which he ended up not doing.

Hilarious, but clearly not his fault. Most of the show seemed like a big singalong from where I was.

Again, not his fault. The behavior of those you chose to stand next to in a gigantic field is irrelevant.

Complete hyperbole that doesn't really help your argument. It really shouldn't be shocking that a 66 year old man doesn't sound like he did in his prime. His band wasn't anything special but forgive me if I can't take your criticism of them seriously.

It's not Elton's fault that you're easily distracted by shiny things.

He didn't play his full set and he's fat. But you liked Billy Joel better because the crowd was cooler then the drunken assholes at Elton.
Maybe you should just judge all shows by the crowds?
I regrettably only saw those two sets from a Nonnaroo streaming perspective. But Sir Elton opening with side 1 of YBR seals the deal for me as the opposite of boring. I was quite mesmerized.

Elton's show overall was pretty underwhelming to me. While my expectations were way too high....I still don't think he delivered as much as he should have. But he wasn't horrible. I still had a good time overall even with some of the assholes I encountered. I had a better time at Billy Joel because yes the crowd around me was better and I had a pretty cool view of the stage. But I'm not trying to say Billy Joel was better, or even that crowd was better. My experience was just better. The people I happened to end up around were better. So basically I'm just saying I don't think either of them delivered as much as they could have, but I did have more fun at Billy Joel. But yes the crowd was also a disappointing factor Elton's set. Nothing to do with him obviously, but still disappointing. I mean 2014 was my second year, and the year I discovered people could be jerks even at Bonnaroo. That was disappointing. I mean I wouldn't talk about Kanye's show without also mentioning the crowd.
