Nice, just won free tickets to Friday at Fenway Park. Wonder how many people will be smoking weed (and get away with it).
I won tickets for Saturday! I was planning on buying tickets last minute, because my dad's a concert photographer and we were hoping to get passes, but this alleviates the fear I had that I might miss out. This will also be his first Dead-related show post-Jerry, so it should be a pretty great night.
So I came across the first set from the first night at Alpine Valley on Youtube last night, was only going to watch a song or two and then go to sleep but they were playing so damn well I just had to watch the whole thing. They seem to just keep getting better and better. John's playing continues to amaze me. I just wonder how he can go back to his solo stuff after this! Hopefully some Dead influence will work its way in

So hyped for the Fenway shows - one of my friends at work couldn't make it Saturday so she sold me her pair of tickets for $70 a piece! My first ever double-header concert, I'm so psyched!
Here's last night's set if anyone was interested (i.e. songs they won't play on Friday, besides Drums and Space):
Set 1: Hell in a Bucket Bertha Liberty > Maggie's Farm (Bob Dylan cover) (live debut) Cold Rain and Snow Looks Like Rain Row Jimmy Throwing Stones
Set 2: Shakedown Street > Uncle John's Band > All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan cover) > China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider Drums Space Black Peter Johnny B. Goode
Encore: In the Midnight Hour (Wilson Pickett cover)

On our way home from Pittsburgh now. Had a great time and it was a fantastic show.
Was hoping for Throwing Stones and got it. Got another China/Rider which was more extended than the one we got at SPAC. Maggies Farm for the first time was cool. Liked the In the Midnight Hour encore. The site li es at the venue were great. Had no trouble with the police presence everyone was talking about. Shakedown was good. Now to find that Fenway ticket and start hi ting at it to the GF.
So I got fucked by traffic and missed the volunteer entrance, what is my best option for cheap tickets?
I don't have an extra but if you come to lower depths in the next 45 minutes I'll buy you a beer and call you a Republican jackass. Sox cap back corner

Wish I saw this sooner, are you going tomorrow too?

Welp, that was incredible. Out of the three times I've seen them so far, this was the best yet! They went big for this show, and this had to be my favorite two sets yet Donna Godchaux showed up, so it's likely she'll stick around for tomorrow. Can't wait!
Set One:
Jack Straw The Music Never Stopped Next Time You See Me Loser Peggy-O Help On The Way -> Slipknot! -> Franklin's Tower
Set Two:
St. Stephen Dark Star -> Terrapin Station Drums -> Space -> Terrapin Station reprise Morning Dew Casey Jones
Damn that's a nice set. I was hoping for Dark Star and US Blues tomorrow, but a lot of my other favorites seem to still be in play
I feel like tomorrow we will get some combination of: Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain, Truckin, New Minglewood Blues and maybe Ramble on Rose
I want Sugar Magnolia, it's one of the only big ones they didn't play the two other times I've seen them. China Cat too. But those definitely all seem possible and are welcome by me!

Fenway Park night on Friday was a good time. TBH, I'm not a fan of when musicians jam incessantly as it just comes across to me as masturbation, but I now understand the appeal of The Dead and their ilk better. But I was pleased to hear Casey Jones and I loved that percussion portion (which was an extended version of Dark Star, correct?). The venue's security was also pretty lax with all the weed, and we even managed to sneak down to the floor by just walking past the guards.

Friday night was my favorite - joints were being passed around in my section and I was so stoned during Dark Star > Terrapin

It was awesome
I agree, I think Friday was the better of the two nights. Very chill atmosphere, especially for Fenway.
Wasn't there Friday, but last night was pretty damn great. The setlist from last night easily beats Friday for me. That second set from from "Playin in the Band" through "Space" was fantastic (even if they messed up some of the transitions). The line getting in was pretty hellish though. Got two off my wishlist with "Deal" and "Estimated Prophet." Still a little surprised and disappointed they didn't do Sugar Magnolia or China>Rider and Fire without Scarlet was a little odd but I had an incredible time. Hopefully they'll do a tour next summer. Also my dad was blown away, kept turning to me during crazy Mayer solos saying "He's just soooo good!"

Also, that Sugaree was fucking fantastic.
What a magical weekend - both shows on Friday and Saturday were phenomenal. Each day had their highlights, but overall, I thought Friday was the strongest day. The second set, personally, was the best I've ever seen, and it was so epic from beginning to end!

I just downloaded tapings of both shows so I'll be checking out the Friday show at some point today
