Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Just want to chime in here, I went to Disney two years ago with my SIL who is a fanatic. I appreciated the logistics and the pre-planning, but I also kinda hated having a rigid schedule. We’d finish one ride and have to book it to the next thing in order to get it in before the next fast pass or dinner reservation or whatever.
I agree that the music festival comparison is apt, but you have to ask yourself if you care about riding every ride the way you care about seeing every last band at a fest? When I was at Disney I finally realized what it was like to go to a music festival with me as a casual fan and get dragged around all day by one person who is always in a rush to get to the next thing.
Anyway, all that is to say I think there’s a big risk in over planning. A couple of the rides make sense for fast pass, but do you really need to plan your day around your appointment for Pirates of the Caribbean (spoiler, you do not, that ride sucks now).
Definitely order your food on the app though.
It does sound like I'm storming the beach at Normandy. I only used that strategy to ride very difficult rides. The rest of the time we said fuck it and did what we wanted. There was some stuff we did not do due to exhaustion or time. And when plan A and or B did not work we came up with a plan C.
So I agree. Over planning can backfire and ruin the fun. Don't get so caught up with the planning you don't have fun. Some of the best stuff was shit we did not even plan on.
We're gonna be in Chicago for a wedding the weekend before Roo, and we're thinking that instead of driving 12 hours from Chicago to Philly and then 12 hours from Philly to Roo a couple days later, we'll just laze our way down the Midwest and shoot for an early Wednesday Roo arrival. Right now we're thinking of leaving Chicago Sunday or Monday, and going to either St. Louis or Louisville. Not sure which yet. Anyone have any recommendations for either of those locations or anywhere else along the way?
Well I may be a little biased, but St. Louis is great. I've also spent some time in Louisville. Our two cities are very similar, actually. Both old French settlements with lots of mispronounced street names. Cost of going out/dining/lodging in both cities is very close. If you prefer beer, come to St. Louis. If you prefer bourbon, go to Louisville. We have a million and one craft breweries (that are actually good) and amazing food that is not expensive or fancy.
Like someone else mentioned, City Museum is a trip. It's a giant, crazy-ass playground for adults and kids with lots of ways to get lost/stuck and secret slides hidden all throughout the building. If you like a traditional museum, our art museum at Forest Park is not bad. And the zoo here is incredible. Our four major museums/attractions (Zoo, Art Museum, Science Center, History Museum) are all free admission.

i'm a fastidious planner for any vacation i go on, whether that be a music festival, disney, or other. i build a spreadsheet scheduling what we'll be doing every hour of the day. but then once the vacation begins, just like with music festival planning, i feel fine about throwing my schedule out the window and doing whatever.
i just don't want to wake up in the morning on vacation and say "well what are we doing today". i like to at least have a plan, but then if we're tired or find something else we want to do we can change up the plan.
disney really lends itself to planning. but if it's 7pm and we've been going all day and just had dinner and are exhausted, i'm not stressing about hanging around epcot for two hours to catch our spaceship earth fastpass if we just want to go to the hotel and sleep.

Agreed on all points. One of the nice points on the fastpass list we had them make was it had them pick the top four things they want to do at every park. Anything we get done beyond that is just a bonus. Overscheduling really is one of my biggest fears for the trip.

I have legit thought about going to St Louis just for the City Museum. It sounds like my exact kind of spot.
Jaz realize you said St Louis or Louisville. If it's one of those, do Louisville. But if you can do Memphis instead, do that. BBQ, Gus fried chick, the rock and soul museum, national civil rights museum/Lorraine motel...lots of good ways to spend time in Memphis.
Jaz I lived in Memphis for 20 years and can give you a run down of great shiz to do, eat, and drink.

It's a great time...but gets harder on my body every time I go. Bring your kneepads.
All of this Disney stuff has me stressed the fuck out and I'm literally years away from even considering taking my kids. Like, I just want to curl up in a ball. It sounds like y'all are explaining the rules to Cones of Dunshire or Bamboozled or something.

If it helps, I knew basically jack shit before we started actually planning the trip. It's a lot but it's doable

Fast passes went live this morning for the Mickey and Minnie coaster with zero announcement. Due to my obsessive Instagram story watching of Disney Food Blog, I totally was able to snag one. Feeling good about this one.

Soarin' is not one of the fast passes we got, but it's definitely on the list.

Epic! I saw they opened up, but of course I have to finalize our annual passes so guessing they're all gone now.
Don't sweat Soarin', they'll probably have FP for that the day of when you're there.

I feel like epcot is the park to generally be the least worried about your fast pass situation. Right now, the only thing I'm trying to edit is that our mission space one is at like 530. I wanna move it up to leave more bonus pass time. Also, I've heard enough reports on it to feel like that's not the best ride around dinner.

Epcot is definitely the most chill of the parks. Mission Space's regular, intense experience can be nauseating, so tread carefully if you're eating before then.

Considering we didn't start trying to make dining reservations until about 40 days, we've done pretty well. Le Cellier didn't have an viable reservation, but they seem just as pleased with Rose and Crown. Yak and Yeti had one open up this morning. If I can miracle into the cantina or the scifi drive in, we'll have a perfect score because, in peak stuff from the kids, all the places they want to eat in magic kingdom are counter service.

Keep checking. Random spots for the cantina and Sci-Fi Drive-In didn't opened up the day our visit to HS.

For sure. I spend a lot of time on the app. They make it easy enough to where it just takes a couple minutes to check for dining and fast pass stuff so I do it during down time.

le cellier is good but it's stupid expensive, even by disney standards. we only went once, and we actually prefer rose and crown which we've been to a handful of times. yak and yeti is great! i think i got chicken and waffles there which were delicious.
sci fi drive in was an interesting concept but again it was just a one time stop for us. we like to spend our sit down meals talking about our day, but at sci fi drive in you are all facing the screen and everyone is quiet, and the same 20 or so minutes just play on a loop. it was odd.
and really whenever we eat in MK it's mostly counter service. chicken fingers and taco salad and shit, it's all delicious. in other words you are really killing it in the disney prep, nice work!

Not gonna lie. Im not terribly upset about not having to pay that Le Cellier bill. To even it up, I told the older one that we might go to a steakhouse here in Knoxville this spring/summer to fill the gap. After looking at pictures of rose and crown, the joke around the house currently is about how we're going to the Winchester for a pint.
The concept is definitely the driver for scifi drive in. The older one likes the retro kitsch of it, but it's not a huge loss for him if we miss out on it. There's always next time.
Disney Food Blog and personal recommendations make me feel generally better about the counter service restaurants. I'm all about being thrifty, but I also want to eat food that's actually good. I've heard some are better than others, but I don't think there's been any places people out and out hate. I can't remember the other, but the place with all the hot dogs is on the list for MK.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. People on here and elsewhere have been a big help. In another festival parallel, Disney enthusiasts seem to be quick to help out new people with learning the ropes.

I went to a conference at Disney last year (going back this summer) that included a night at Epcot -our own space on the lake which included open bar and snack leading up to and during IllumiNations. Then, our group had exclusive use of Soarin' for a period. I rode it at least 6-7 times, but I have no idea what that gif is... Of course, I did do it after an open bar (which I showed up buzzed to). I also started chants and got yelled at my staff members. Not once, not twice, but three times. So I'm not completely surprised that I am missing something...
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

First, that sounds AWESOME.
Second, the gif of Puddy is from the safety video that precedes the ride. It may be they just swept you all into the ride so you didn't watch the video, or you didn't pay attention and put yourself at risk!
I love the video, my brother in law laughs at Puddy every single time and we've been on that ride like eight times over many years.
