Fox bros is like the touristy BBQ place that everyone goes to, it's aight
Littles Food Store in cabbagetown is cool for some burgers as well
I drive past Fat Matt's BBQ to work a lot and it looks pretty good but I haven't been yet
I will echo what was said about Torched Hop Brewery as well
Fat Matt’s was one of our favorite places when we lived in Atlanta. I wasn’t big on their pulled pork sandwich, but their ribs were the best. The baked beans and mac and cheese were both great as well. When we moved to Macon, we made a point of driving up to Atlanta just to get some Fat Matt’s. It was just as good as we remembered.
Also, they give a random shout out to it in the movie Up in the Air.

not nearly as good as gold b's reccs and maybe it's touristy but if you are in atlanta i feel like you should go to Varsity and get a dog, onion rings, and orange drink.

Little's is the best. When my friends and I were training for a marathon we'd stop in there for Gatorade every Saturday morning. The employees always enjoyed how terrible we looked first thing in the morning. Supremo Taco around the corner (next to Grindhouse, actually) is GREAT too.
And thirded for Torched Hop. Their beers are resoundingly excellent. I went to college with the brewmaster too so y'all please put some money in his pocket. The food is merely fine though so I shout out Bon Ton across the street if you want to stay on Ponce. Skip Mary Mac's though.
Bolton's is good, if you don't mind getting murdered while you are there to pick up your chicken.
I prefer Pepperfire. They have a double extra hot using the carolina reaper pepper. A friend of mine got it. It's literally black. I wanted to get the fire extinguisher out.
Hi! Yea that's me who made the Atlanta list but it's actually a map! Save it to your Google Maps and toggle it on when you get near the Perimeter and you'll see everything available to you.
One general caveat is that I made this specifically for people who were visiting for Shaky Knees and staying downtown. I would encourage you to not go downtown and stick to the neighborhoods. Though if you are in fact staying down there, you've got plenty of good options.
If I were picking one restaurant to go to it would either be Little Bear or Talat. Both are in Summerhill and they are incredible. Little Bear can accommodate outdoor eating but I don't think Talat is doing it right now. Little Bear is right across the street from a great brewery called Halfway Crooks but both are near enough to the Westside Beltline that you could scoot over to Monday Night Garage or Wild Heaven and have some great beers.
If you want to stay closer to Midtown, my vote is going to Inman Park and hitting either Ticonderoga Club or Victory Sandwich Bar. They both have great food and EXCELLENT cocktails with TC trending a little pricier and VSB being more casual. Victoy has lots of outdoor dining space too. Or you could always get an insanely good burger at Fred's and just grab drinks at Ticonderoga Club. Boccalupo is in that area too though I am fairly indifferent to it. I'm not a big Italian food guy though.
If you want Southern food ... Miller Union and Revival are great but pricey. Busy Bee is by far the best meat and three place in town.
East Atlanta Village has good eating and drinking options too ... Banshee, Midway, Argosy, The Earl...
Honestly the city has basically anything you want. If you are looking for something specific let me know and I'll point you in the right direction! jakicker
I’m going to thoroughly review this map (thanks again, because I used it on our trip back in 2019) and make a decision today. We will be getting into Atlanta in the early afternoon and have three goals: hit up the Beltline during the day, eat somewhere really awesome for dinner (price is no issue so looking for best overall experience but it’s Easter Sunday so it’ll have to be open) and have couple drinks either at the restaurant or somewhere nearby.
We stayed very close to that strip of places on Edgewood Ave last time we visited and enjoyed it a lot.
So I need to book an Airbnb that is close to the Beltine and semi-close to the restaurant/drinks. Little Bear looks great, but not sold yet on any places to stay near it

so i'll be travelling for the first time in a long time this weekend. going to port arthur, texas for work. about a 6 hour drive and i'm doing it solo. aside from fear of icey interstates (which just reopened so hopefully i'll be ok by friday) i'm actually kind of excited just to get on the road. audiobooks, podcasts, music, trash road food, a hotel room. be better if i didn't have to work when i got there.
happy for recommendations if anyone can offer but i'll just be there a couple of nights and won't have time to do too much other than grab food. really just wanted to share i'll be travelling.

I lived in Atlanta for 30 years and was well-versed in the food scene including having lots of friends that work at trendy restaurants. I've never heard anyone mention it or seen it get mentioned in any local food press. So maybe it's great and I'm ignorant but I would take that as a sign that it's skippable.
I think you said you wanted fancy? And I think you were trying to stay around Little Five? If so, Southern Belle is your best bet.
Otherwise go to like Bacchanalia or Miller Union. This is probably a good article to point you in the right direction www.atlantamagazine.com/50bestrestaurants/ Staplehouse is incredible and doing really fancy take out picnics so that would be my vote. Miller Union has a big patio too so that's also a safer option. Lazy Betty is nearby to Little Five if you want tasting menu.
I would NOT go to Boccalupo like you asked earlier btw. I know their owner lied about having employees who tested positive over the summer and I believe you want to sit inside. So, yea, don't go there.

I am pretending that international travel will be permissible this summer. So are my in-laws, who are apparently going to rent a house in Portugal for three months, probably May-July. I think we may go to Lisbon and I may try to talk the wife into tacking on another city in another country - spend a weekend in, say, Granada or Seville, or maybe go further like Nice or Marseille/Cote D'Azur. Anybody ever been to any of those places?

Assuming next summer is totally open travel between countries, how would I start to plan a European honeymoon? Looks like our budget is gonna be around 4-5k, and we for sure want to see at least London and Paris

Get a passport.
Also look into Global Entry, which includes TSA precheck for domestic travel. I believe this is tough to get these days given COVID, but apparently it makes international travel with customs a breeze.

I get the desire to see those two cities, but you need to go to Barcelona. That's where my wife and I went on our honeymoon (with a weekend in Madrid, as well, to see Jeremy Fragrance's Atleti vs. Messi and Barca).
Start looking for airfare about 8 months out, and buy between 6-8 months out I think. I'm happy to fly to Europe from the East Coast for under $500 and ecstatic for under $400. We always fly from Newark, which is about 2.5 hours from us.
Until then, come up with a sort of itinerary, at least of places you want to go, and a tentative schedule, but I'd also keep the dates as flexible-ish as possible (moving your departure and arrival days around 2-3 days to get best flight prices).
Assuming you are taking trains, book the train tickets shortly after you book the flights. I made the mistake of not doing that on a London to Liverpool train and paid like 2-3 times what I would have paid if I booked earlier. Then saved a lot of money booking early on a Berlin-Prague-Vienna-Salzburg trip.
Once you have airfare and train trips booked, then you're able to book accommodations as needed.

I get the appeal of Barcelona, but she's a huge museum buff (Louvre and D'orsay are absolute musts) and I've been salivating over a night at Printworks lol

There are a lot of really interesting and helpful travel vlogs on YouTube. Some are even hosted by people who aren't totally obnoxious.

Yeah, Louvre is a must do the first time in Paris, and D'Orsay is the best museum in the world. But Barcelona has the Picasso Museum, the National Art Museum of Catalonia (which is up by the Olympic flame and stadium, amazing view of the city from up there), a great Modern Art museum...there are plenty to see.

i do not know if they are any good, but costco has london/paris travel packages. but we book our vegas trips through costco travel and the price is always the best, plus you get some pretty good perks like $100/day food and beverage credits. i've been checking out various europe travel packages there in anticipation of a summer 2022 trip involving london.
