Headed to Chicago this weekend to take my wife to see Adele. Anyone have recommendations on places to eat or places to go? We will be there early Saturday and leave late Tuesday. Here are a few things I had in mind: - A Frank Loyd Wright Tour - One of the museums - Taste of Chicago - River Tour - Miracle Mile - Catch a show at 2nd City
The Taste is kind of a hastle tbh. Overpriced as sh*t too. Food is good though and you'll get some random decent acts playing too. Your wife will love the Miracle Mile with all the shopping so that's a good idea. I would personally see if you guys can eat dinner at the original Lou Malnati's. Fantastic deep dish pizza, cool set up/feel to the place. You already got some good ideas tbh. See what the Cubs schedule is too. I'm a Sox fan and hate the Cubs but for someone coming from out of town, Wrigley would be a cool thing to experience for sure.
Edit: Nvm just saw the Cubs are in Pittsburgh this weekend.

Thank you Sir! A friend also recommended Lou Malnati's, which one is the original?

I'm just curious. Do you know his wife?
I don't but if you're traveling to a big city like Chicago and are looking for something that is very different from everywhere else (and he brought it up first) I'd imagine that's a good place to start for the lady. Even if she doesn't want to shop, it's still cool to walk down and just look in and out of.

Anyone ever been to Italy? We're going in September for 11 days. As of right now planning on doing Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan, with some side trips to smaller towns we've heard of from friends. Recommendations or advice recommended!

If you read, check out "The Agony and the Ecstasy" which is a biographical novel of Michaelangelo. Gives a pretty good history and context to the sights and art you will see.

Skip Milan. Unless you have a specific reason to visit that region, the only thing to see there is the cathedral.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I enjoyed Venice, but Trieste is nicer.
Milan is a waste of time. Go to Lucca, Pisa, and the Cinque Terre instead.

Yeah we're just spending the final night in Milan, because we're flying out from there. Otherwise we would skip it.

I also really enjoyed Bologna.
Make sure you venture into the hill towns.
We're planning on renting some scooters and going to a couple of hill towns. Oh Bologna, good call!

It's probably not the "coolest" thing to say on here, but check out Rick Steves blog, he's got a younger guy working for him now that brings a different perspective. Check out this link for his take on some towns in Italy and such...makes for some good wanderlust reading at work.

I don't know how to link someone's YouTube home page from my phone but check out Kristen Sarah's travel vlogs. You might find them helpful.
(Side note: she took in Bonnaroo this year. Still waiting for that vlog to post, though.)

I just wanted to let you know I appreciated the help and confirming that the shopping would be good there. If you are around this weekend and want to have a drink, PM me your number and I'll let you know what we are up to. Thanks again!

Mag mile is totally lame IMO, I super enjoyed my river tour, I love the field museum, Lou Malnati's for deep dish and Portillo's for Italian beef (make sure to get a chocolate cake shake too), Shed Aquarium is great, I have yet to go to 2nd city but it's on my list. I just keep finding myself at the breweries

Thanks! Going to see Book of Mormon tonight, used 2 $2.25 Ticketmaster settlement codes so I feel good about that A fried recommend Prime & Provisions so headed their first. Tomorrow we will walk through Taste of Chicago on the way to the field museum, then dinner at Little Goat on the way to Adele. Definitely going to Lou Malnati's and may try Portillo's Monday night. Thanks for all the recommendations!

NYC inforoo'ers, I need some logistics advice.
Next week, the 18-21, I'll be in Poughkeepsie, NY for work. Ryan Adams is playing Central Park Summerstage Wednesday the 20th, and I'd love to catch the show. I've been to NYC a couple of times but I've never driven in the city and have no idea what the parking situation is like, how much it costs, etc. Google maps has the drive from Poughkeepsie to Central Park at about 90 minutes, is that realistic? Any suggestions on where I should park, and how much should I expect to pay to do so? Any tips on the best place to park and how exactly I get into the venue, which I'm guessing is blocked off somehow because the tickets aren't free.
Thanks so much, just trying to determine if this is doable from a logistical and budget perspective.

Poughkeepsie to NYC in 90 min is unrealistic in most daylight hours. Two hours might be lucky, considering you'll likely be coming down during rush hour.
I highly encourage taking public transit. Metro North runs often in and out of the city, and it's a lot easier to park at some suburban station and ride in rather than driving straight into Manhattan.

I am trying to talk a couple of people into doing the same thing! That would make me seeing him 3 times in 6 days, which I think would be pretty amazing. Not sure if it will happen though, but I'll keep you updated.

If you find it necessary to drive, you can probably find street parking in the vicinity of 71 between Lexington and park. It's very residential, although it may take some time driving around before you find it

Thanks for this advice, I reran my google maps directions using rush hour traffic, and that gives me a more realistic travel time of 2.5 hours (leaving poughkeepsie at 4:30pm). That would put me in NYC right at 7pm, without accounting for time spent finding a parking place and walking to the venue.
I could also just take the metro north/hudson all the way from poughkeepsie to NYC, I think this would actually be faster than driving (90 minutes per the mta website). Trains depart back to poughkeepsie at around 11pm and midnight, should be easy to catch with the show ending at 10pm. But if I were to miss the train back, as unlikely as that is, I'd be totally screwed.
The best path might be just what you suggested, driving for a ways south from poughkeepsie and taking a train the rest of the way in. Then at least my car wouldn't be 2 hours away.
All this is complicated by the fact that my flight leaves the next day from LGA at 9:45am. Might make more sense to get a room near LGA on Wednesday night.
I have a week to figure all this out, really hoping to make it happen.

You will have a great time. With only 11 days, I would skip Milan. If you are rinding trains, get 1st class tickets. You have better storage for luggage and less likely to be picked pocketed.
Rome, preorder tickets to vatican museum. It may be to late to get tickets but there is a great tour of catacombs beneath the vatican.
Florence- get fireze pass, includes entrance intoall the museums and you skip the lines. I booked a couple day trip eith the following groupand had great trips. The catherdral in Sienna has the floors uncovered in September. www.walkaboutflorence.com
