Somebody already asked on page 2, but anyone got some recommendations for food/beers in Asheville? Looking at you, o'neil, captaina152 and anyone else who lives in the area.
Mother freaking Burial. Their brewery is catty-corner from Wicked Weed's Funkatorium which is another must. Green Man is on that intersection too and is also solid.
With the wealth of choices in Asheville for such things, we each picked one brewery that was a can't miss for the weekend. She wants to revisit Pisgah. I want Burial. We've each been to our choice but not the others, so it should be a good time. BTW, since you mention it and happen to live in Atlanta, you saw this, right?

Yes yes yes I'm so excited. My favorite beer store--just a 10-minute bike ride away--is having a launch party and I'm going to be there with bells on. Thanks for the heads up!
Personally I advise against Founding Farmers, given the price and the wait time. The Right Proper Brew Pub is similar but with better beer/food/service/prices.
You'd really dig Flash night club. U Street Music Hall may have someone you're into as well.
Restaurants I like that aren't too pricey: Maketto (Thai, Cambodian), Toki Underground (ramen), Jaleo (spanish), 2Amys (Pizza).
Bars I like: Little Miss Whiskeys, American Ice, Showtime, The Passenger, Copycat.
There's also a bunch of fancy cocktail bars that are pretty good if that's your thing (bar mini in particular), and a surprisingly decent brewery and distillery collection in the North East warehouse neighborhood.
And, you know, museums and shit. They just reopened the modern wing of the National Gallery and did a very nice job.
Thank you for the all the tips!
We're going on Sun-Wed right after Christmas, so I hope they've got some good shows during that period.
We're staying near the White House and all the museums, very excited.

There's a bar on the roof of the W hotel that overlooks the White House. It's a little douchey but might be worth it for the view.

Good Ethiopian food located right behind The Thirsty Monk (Which is great)
Has anyone ever been to China, specifically Beijing? Cap'n Mac and I are trying to figure out what the best way of communicating with each other will be while we're there. Usually we use FB messaging for texting, but FB is blocked in China and won't work. Outside of traditional texting, any suggestions of what works there?
(to be clear, we'll both be in Beijing, not one of us there and getting a hold of the other back home, so I'm looking for something that we can use while we're both there to text each other)

Anyone ever been to Italy? We're going in September for 11 days. As of right now planning on doing Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan, with some side trips to smaller towns we've heard of from friends. Recommendations or advice recommended!
If you can swing it, make time for Siena and Assisi.
In Rome, besides the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's, see the Museum of St. Peter's at the left of the Vatican. You can climb to the top of the St. Peter's dome and have an incredible view for miles around.
All of Italy is pretty much one giant art museum. From the well known destinations to frescoes on the sides of random buildings, you are on sensory overload. Plus, the house wine at most restaurants is better than anything you can get here for under a small fortune.

For anyone traveling from the below airports now to December 31, you can get two free Uber rides up to $65 using an AmEx card as payment and inputting AMEXAIRPORT prior to requesting your ride. List of airports below: •LaGuardia Airport (LGA) •John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) •Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) •Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) •Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) •Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) •Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) •McCarran International Airport (LAS) •George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) •Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) •Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
Museé D'orsay, Notre Dame, Sacre Cœur/montmartre...you can't go wrong.
Well since I'll be free from roughly 9 PM - 7 AM I figured there isn't going to be much to do. Just looking at the outside of the sites.
What all is worth seeing if you can't go inside? The tower lit up of course, but beyond that...
Day or night, my suggestion would be the same for someone with a short time to kill. Get off in the Latin Quarter and just spend a few hours wandering around there and the banks of the Seine. That area is heavy with interesting things to see. You can knock off 6-12 sites in like 2+ hours (Luxembourg Gardens, the Pantheon, Notre Dame, La Sorbonne, Sainte Chappelle, Fontaine Saint Michel, the Louvre, Tuleries, various bridges...)
I assume you'll be coming in via CDG? The Saint Michel-Notre Dame stop is on the same line as CDG. Get off there. Wander the Latin Quarter for a bit and then make your way to the Seine. See Notre Dame and wander west along the Seine taking in the sites on both sides of the river. Cross on Pont des Arts and catch the Louvre and such. Walk back east along the Seine and you can get on Chatelet- Les Halles which is also on the same RER line as CDG.
Also consider a boat tour. When in any new city for a short time, I always think spending a few bucks on a tour bus is worth it. Paris also has boat tours. The most famous are the Bateaux Mouches, but the best option for you is probably the Vedettes du Pont Neuf. They launch from Ile de la Cite (where Notre Dameis) and have cheaper hour long tour options. It looks like they run pretty late too. Do it! vedettesdupontneuf.com/home/ You can easily do what I said and do a boat tour in one evening. You'll also be able to at least see a glance of almost all the major sites between the two.
I lived in Paris for a year, so I am pretty knowledgeable about the city (but keep in mind it was 10 years ago so some details might slip, prices change, etc. so feel free to PM me for more).
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Well, after booking my flight from Newark to Berlin, I finally (two days ago) committed to a travel route by booking hotels and train tickets. My trip is taking me from Newark to Berlin (3 nights), train to Prague for 2 nights, train to Vienna for 3 nights, train to Salzburg for 1 night, and then back to Berlin for one more night. I booked three nights in Vienna in case I decided to hop on a train for a night in Budapest. If anyone has Berlin/Prague/Vienna/Salzburg sights to see, I'll solicit recommendations. I am spending new years eve partying with Berliners at the Brandenburg Gate. Pretty excited!

I was in Vienna, Prague , Buda in Oct. Kolar was my favorite bar to hang out in Vienna. We used the Rick Steve's Vienna and Prague pocketbooks which were very helpful and include self guided tours in them well worth the price on Amazon. Prague was a great beautiful city if you plan on going to the castle be sure to get there early like before it opens to beat the crowd. We ended up in a 45 minute security screening line because we got there after 10.
Planning a trip to SE Asia and looking for must-see and skip recommendations. The level of information out there is a little overwhelming and I'm trying to pare down my list. Have about a 3 week time period.
people that are good at travel... what should I consider a good deal in terms of plane ticket prices to get to Europe? I'm looking at a $340 one way ticket to London right now and not sure if I should just jump on it or wait out to see if I can find something cheaper.

Assuming it would be 680 round trip, and from Denver? I bought my ticket to Berlin (from Newark) back in May for 688 but that was before travel prices got extremely good. I would consider jumping.
I just did a search on delta.com from Denver to London with flexible dates around Memorial Day and...actually there are a bunch of flights that are cheaper than 680 roundtrip...maybe wait.

looking at the Delta website, I can get a oneway for $1600 or a roundtrip for $640... wtf?

Don't even get me started on quacking airlines, airports, and airfares, man...

Thailand and Vietnam would be the two countries I'd recommend. Or possibly Thailand and Cambodia. What kind of stuff are you in to? Cities, mountains, beaches, etc.
