I've never really listened to Ween. Where do I start?
While it would be outstanding if you followed my previous suggestion I'd also be happy to make a playlist for you, if you want to try a less time consuming approach. What streaming service do you use?
If your willing to make a playlist, I'm most certainly willing to listen. I use Spotify.

There were two different kinds of links offered, I put both, let me know if either doesn't work.
Ween runs the gamut from incomprehensibly dark and fucked up to tear-inducingly beautiful. Before I became a Ween fan I was somewhat aware of the former but had no idea about the latter. I hope this playlist gives you a bit of both, and everything inbetween.
I did put some thought into the order, trying to give you a nice balance of their various styles as you listen.
Great list 3post1jack1. surprised you left off roses are free. and i really like tear for eddie (their tribute to eddie hazel)
when the rest of you are ready, you should also watch this.
Yeah Roses Are Free is one of my favorites, not sure why I left it off. And I actually had Tear For Eddie on there originally, but took it off to trim down the length a bit.
I concur with the Live in Chicago recommendation, one of my most listened to Ween releases. Ween is equally brilliant in the studio as they are live, IMO, and Live in Chicago captures them live in all their glory.
They've played several times at Roo and have been snubbed from stardom of the What Stage. Please Roo Gods Listen, Ween deserves a chance at getting a What Stage spot at Roo!
Tenacious D played the What stage. Why not Ween. They've been around longer and they can be serious musicians. I mean, who else covers Bowie and Van Halen and Led Zeppelin?
Ween is no joke. Despite the comical nature of some of their songs, they are the ultimate Jam/Party Band.
Claude is a monster on the drums. Dean plays like he was born with a guitar. And Gene.......The man can sound like a New York Lounge singer on steroids.

Ween For 2016 Bonnaroo!
no way ween can pull a what stage crowd. I say this as a huge ween fan. I could have seen them getting a main stage show if bonnaroo were still booking like it was 2004, but not in 2016.
Besides, wouldn't you rather see them in a LN spot anyway?

What Stage 1245pm confirmed
This was actually the case in 2002. You young kids may not remember (or were around for this) but Ween actually opened the What Stage on Sunday of the very first Bonnaroo. I distinctly remember walking through the arch just as they started Buckingham Green (my favorite Ween song) and sprinting across that field in a fit of glee. Super excited to hear they will probably be there again this year. Edit: words out of order
Live at Stubb's has some required listening on it as well
Let's go ahead and add All Request Live to that as well. I love hearing pristine studio/soundboards of Pod/GWS era tracks.
All Request Live is one of my most listened to Ween releases. #1 reason of course you have all the stallions in a row, but also the definitive (imo) version of Demon Sweat.
These are just a few songs that are memorable to me. And also they covered Bowie's "Let's Dance" in 2010. It sounded like Bowie. Simply amazing sounds.
And if your mind is totally plastered...."Poop Ship Destroyer" thats a legendary song right there.
I would love to see Ween at roo, I only recently just got into them. Since they like to perform covers, maybe they could even be involved with the superjam?

I do declare I can float in the air And with some love from above Don't caress the weasel And don't fall too soon Don't seek the blood from the panther Don't take a trip to you soon

As said earlier in this thread, Live at Stubbs and All Request Live are a must listen to for Ween. Live Ween is a completely different beast than studio Ween. Finally making it back this year and this show is at the very top of my list of acts to see this year.
and there is your fluffhead > divided sky 3/6/09 moment. what deaner was talking about > buckingham green, perfect fucking opener. aaron looks great. i feel good.

Everything that you are That you'd like to be Will come in three, my friend Times thine inequity The flutes of the chi Will sound again, my friend
Wrap yourself up in gold The fruits of the old Are ripe to be told, my friend For, it's not what you are How you've come to be All this will end and begin again

So I've done a bit of a 180 on Ween recently. I had never really listened to them before them showing up on the lineup so I decided I should give them a listen.
Tried listening to the playlist posted in this thread and didn't care for it at all (no offense postjack, I really appreciate you making it). I guess I imagined their sound to be a lot different from what it really was and it took me by surprise.
Tried listening to The Pod as suggested. Could only make through a few songs. It all just rubbed me the wrong way. Really abrasive.
At this point I just thought "well, I guess I just don't like Ween" and left it at that for a while.
After a drunken discussion with a friend at a bar a few weeks later about Ween, my experiences listening to them and his thoughts and I decided to give them another listen. This time I started watching the YouTube clip posted in this thread.
It started with Buckingham Green. This seemed so different than all the other stuff I had tried to listen to. I was loving it. Unfortunately I only had time to listen to that one song so the next day I decided to listen to live at Stubbs.
I, for the most part, really enjoyed what I was hearing. I still didn't care for some of it, but a good bit I have come to really enjoy!
Over the past two weeks Ween has gone from no way, uh-huh, definitely not my thing to damn I'm pretty excited to see some of this stuff.
A few songs that I have really enjoyed are Roses are Free, Buckingham Green, Ocean Man and A Tear for Eddie.
Fingers crossed for a conflict free placement on the schedule.
If you can find a way to listen to the Saturday night performance from their reunion shows last month I would very strongly recommend that. Best ween show I have attended out of many. The brownest

My Ween story also began with a drunken conversation with a friend. Probably the case with a lot of Ween fans.
I'm not offended you didn't enjoy the playlist, glad you gave it a shot though. The thing with Ween fans is when we try to get people into Ween we want to throw the brownest Ween tracks ever at them. "The Pod" gets recommended a lot since it's the brownest Ween record but objectively it's a horrible place to start, I just can't help but recommend it over and over to non-Ween fans. I'm guessing boognish makes me do it.
For a fan of rocking live music I do think "Live In Chicago" and "Live At Stubbs" are good places to start. Glad they are doing the trick for you!
If you keep getting into Ween, and continue to enjoy the slightly less silly, more song-y tracks, eventually you will back in to all the other stuff.

Glad you're coming around to the brown. Live in Chicago is classic, give that a listen for sure.
As for albums, I think chocolate and cheese is probably the best place to start. My wife rolls her eyes when i mention ween (or Phish or umphreys) but she digs that album. And don't overlook 12 golden country greats, there some great songwriting on there from tongue in cheek to heartbreaking.
