Not so there solidrock. Always looking to cut costs while keeping the value and benefits. The Ocean Reef is cheaper but, their pool was shut down according to a guest I met and I've spent time there. The pools at Island Winds are where I spend a lot of time. San Carlos was comparable but not as close, ditto just about all others. I like the security and on-site staff at Island Winds plus over ten years of good experience with them. Island Winds is concrete construction and proven reliably quiet. Island Winds has a boardwalk out to the beach, some don't. Reef is closer to Bahama Bobs.
I plan to go on-line, review websites, listen to everyone on this site, check in with my realtor friend. I do a lot of research before I make my decisions. Again, still no dates or ticket sales.
Going VIP to GA and sticking with the ticket plan would have saved me $665. Just doing seven days vice 16 will reduce the cost another $1500 food/lodging.
My only hassle this year was having to completely unfold my poncho twice on Sunday. Actually, 2015 westside is the only time i've had to turn my head and cough.
Should have been up at Rock on the Range. That was a 3 poncho weekend ;-)

Goldenvoice sent this out today if you guys need some more Mumford and wine. (Seriously how were people drinking those mini wine bottles all weekend??) www.arroyosecoweekend.com

That's pretty cool, but I'd have Lettuce on top Day 2 as they are one of the most talented acts on that day (I realize Mumford is way bigger and also talented). I'm not big on alcohol policies, but the worst I'm going to get is tipping too much. I'm one of the happiest drunks ever.
I like that lineup. I also tip generously if the service is good. Yea, what was with the little bottles of wine? I wound up killing three plastic cups of merlot in the Grove before Mumford. The most ridiculous thing at Hangout, beyond insecure and inconsistent Security, is telling honest folks they can't take drink out of the Grove when hundreds of folks walk up, pour it in a container and walk out. So if you blatantly break the rules, it is ok, at Hangout. But if you follow the rules, you get screwed. Quack that.

I think we had the conversation recently about Krasno. I love Lettuce but they seem to mail in some of the smaller shows. I saw them for about the six time in the last year, all without Krasno, and it was the weakest set yet. My mother in law turns to me as says "I didn't even realize the band started. I though this was the music between bands". They pretty much only jammed out on the two songs Nigel sang. That being said, I cant wait for the late night set at Peach with Chaka Khan and hopefully Krasno.
You guys are beginning to sell me on the west side.. what are the perks? Is IW really quiet? We stayed at a random spot on the west side our first year (2011), and at the Whaler for 5 years and Island Sunrise this year, both on east side. 2-3 blocks from entrance, both small and quiet buildings. Island Sunrise was surprisintly SUPER quiet inside the unit and the pool was really nice (big perk for the kids). Is it hard to get in and out of west side spots during the festival? We rarely get in our cars once we arrive but we usually need one or two runs to the store during the weekend. Anyone stayed on both sides of the Fest and have a perspective to share? I already asked if we could re-book our Island Sunrise unit, but im open to shopping around more first, especially if it means we have easier access to the inforoo preparty...
meraiko I am interested in the pros and cons of other lodging options. jdstultz and I got around fine and we were on opposite sides. The trick is getting up at 6-7 am and getting trips done before 9 am. I have met people at IWE I've hung out at that pool with for years. I tried VIP this year after everyone said it was great and will not do it again. Everybody does not like the same things and being an older single dude, I am not in the majority. Ditto if you have kids. I am very comfortable with Brett Robinson and Island Winds. Heck, they got me a brand new mattress to sleep on this year. They totally supported our pre-party. The walk to the entrance from IWE/W is minimal and IWW has a kiddie pool. I walked to Pink Pony to meet jdstultz and it was a short ten minute walk. I believe most "gulf front", two bedroom, well furnished, pool available, short walking distance, with excellent maintenance and 24 hour service are going to cost around $300 per festival night. I checked out Ocean Reef and they are $3,000 for seven days and $1600 for for non-Gulf view. I guess the last word is I am less willing to change from what works for me these days. Others who are willing to try different things and are willing to throw the dice might save a few bucks. If it was all about the cost, I would stay at the campground and hitch a ride.

Rule breaker here. Carried out double John Dalys all weekend.

I stayed on east side in 2011 and IWW ever since. My units at IWW have always been quiet. I've never tried to drive anywhere during the fest.
IWW was actually quieter than IWE. A little farther from the 8:00 stage preparations and warm ups I guess. I think more parents with children at IWW for the kiddie pool. Except for the guy at Sands??? playing gangsta from his third floor apartment and the Inforoo pre-party, it was pretty quiet around IWW. No complaints in that area.
Other than different restaurants, not much difference between east and west. I think you just look at proximity, beach front or not, unit and building. ...big, private (walled off from neighbors) balconies are high on my list.

Annoying neighbors are everywhere, unfortunately. I couldn't hear him while inside my condo.

I actually made friends with the people in condo next to us (2015?) because we could talk to each other from our balconies. They came over with good smoke (or so I'm told, I'm heavily drug tested), took jello shots with us, had a solid time.
The only thing I'll say about the east vs west is I got in a lot quicker every other year when I was on the east side. Last year on the west it was a shitshow every day coming in with lines.

I hear ya. The one year we had that we made friends as well. But in general, i don't want to hear a big group of people next to me and i don't want them to have to hear us...especially when the blaster is on 11 at 2am.

agreed. in my 4 years i did highway entrance in 13 which was cake but security was lighter then. In 14 and 16 i was on the west bu 14 wasnt too bad but last year i missed sets from being in line so long. 15 was on the east and despite hard patdowns it all moved fast (enough)

In my opinion, the East side is the best side. I stayed West one year & had bedbugs, etc., plus they (security goons) hassle you more on West side. I would actually walk all the way around to East side entrance & come in there.

You could have sold single John Daly's to us commoners for $10. Would have made a killing since they were asking $13.
