I mean would you rather pay 250 for hangout on the beach or 300 (lowest tier, highest was nearly 4 freaking hundred) before fees and camping for Firefly? For me $250 at the best festival venue there is (in my opinion) is easy for me to choose if there is enough i like on the lineup. Obviously there are some other similar sized fests that are worth it as well like Gov Ball, Hula, Voodoo, etc. Prob can include Osheaga, Wayhome too but im not sure how much they cost.
True but travel costs (for most of us outside the southeast) and condo costs completely negate a lot of that. Just your example, at Firefly even if you pay $400 with camping my condo will run twice that. True, its a sweet condo and not sleeping in a tent but overall costs for anyone traveling, this is pretty pricey. I can go to most any other major fest for less.

That's if you choose to pay that much for a condo. The past 4 Hangouts, ne215 and I have stayed under $200/per person for 4- 5 nights. Last year it was $160/pp for 5 nights. Tent and associated supplies probably cost $100-$200 for the trip (although some stuff is multi use). Just some more fuel to the fire.

True. All depends on the person. I do multiple camping fests a year so I am not buying any new gear. I also pay for two people in the condo at minimum with the GF. Our cheap condo will end up about 100-150 a person which isn't horrible but I can't anything that cheap right now otherwise. Travel kills me. Outside of Coachella, there isn't any fest that would cost more for travel and we drive down. Rental, gas, stop nights on the way down and back and it still works out much cheaper than airfare. Firefly I could travel to for $100 total. Lolla probably $200. Roo significantly less than Hangout. etc.
All true as far as sharing costs, etc. I'm just comparing 2010 $65 for GA and $78 a night for same awesome two bedroom condo for a fun festival with 40 bands. Now at 2016 and tickets are pushing $300 and condo is over $350 a night. And that ain't VIP. I do stay seven days so your quick trip for 8 buds is not equal to me and my son for a week. Understand inflation, but somebody is making a lot more money because Hangout showed up. And they are working it to squeeze more bucks for less show in my opinion.
thats any festival though for the most part. i imagine if you looked at these festivals in their first 3 years the ticket cost was much lower. Demand is higher now and the fest has grown.
Going to see Blink 182 tonight. This 'getting older' hippie is pretty excited to re-live my middle school/high school Warped Tour days (back when Warped Tour was good). Has anyone seen them on this tour?

I incorrectly interpreted that as Green Day and curiously looked up tour dates. I then realized you said Blink which explained the lack of tour dates while we await that new album. I don't know why but I really have little interest in Blink unless they're at a fest but I will probably try and make it for Green Day. It's nice to indulge in some of these high school/grade school throwbacks.

Yes, saw them on their first show of this tour! I'm biased because I'm a life long Blink fan, but they absolutely killed it. I was worried about how Matt would fit in live but he's great! The dick humor is still there, too.

I saw blink both at a festival and their own tour. I thought they did a good job, I enjoyed it. Full disclosure though, I hadn't seen them when Tom was still there so I don't have that to compare to.
Welp done making excuses for not seeing Pearl Jam when they tour. Band is just out of this world. 3rd time I've seen them just because of scheduling in past years but they're 100% worth traveling for.

Especially for destination shows. I wish DMB would still do Wrigley and Fenway shows like they did back in the day.

I agree. I honestly wish DMB would just tour less. Just play like the big venues for 2 nights each weekend (3 for Gorge) of the summer. They'd sell all of them out and I feel like they'd be more rejuvenated and more willing to go out of their comfort zone and break out new songs. Hit up SPAC, Camden, West Palm Beach, Deer Creek, Alpine, Gorge, and then a couple destination shows like stadiums.

Id be fine with that. There normal tour spots in my area of the country like Pelham, Atlanta and Orange Beach have been smaller and smaller attendances and not as great.
Hangout is actually one of the cheaper festival tickets for one of its size. $250 with fees included is a good deal even for last years lineup.
Gunna have to agree with you here. I was kicking around the idea of a quick trip to Vegas after out honeymoon for Life is Beautiful but tickets and fees are ungodly for that fest. Close to 360$ a pop after live performance fees and taxes.
Then don't get me started on places to stay. Swear this will be my last Acl. 2300$ for a small two bed 1 bathroom in Austin for three days is redic imo. I'll take my ocean reef beachfront 2 minute walk, three story condo for a week over that anyday.

A message from Midnight Oil
We know it’s been a while but we wanted to tell you that the five of us are finally making plans to get together again for some gigs next year. We’re looking forward to hopefully playing overseas and touring our homeland for the first time since 2002.
We won’t know exactly when, where and what we’ll be doing before next January at the earliest so in the meantime please just ignore any rumours. Unless and until you hear about something from us you can safely assume that it’s not yet confirmed.
...yes please! and it looks like Peter Garret has released and is touring a solo album that has been well received.
Skipped them in 2013 to go to Florabama but I might actually check it out since they will have new music and I have never actually seen them live.
It'd be an extremely lazy booking and I don't think it'd do much for ticket sales but I'd prefer them over Black Keys, 21 Pilots, The Weeknd, Calvin, etc. They could do worse but with all these other acts touring I'd prefer to not have them repeat another headliner.

dont waste your time. that 2013 set was arguably the worst set i have ever seen. i went into the set as a mildly casual fan and me, cmack, and our boy found ourselves so bored we ended spending most of the set spearing the shit out of eachother in the sand. they played MIA that same year, i didnt stay but i walked home and heard about 3 songs on my walk and again it sounded so boring. they bring no energy or creativity at all.
See Keys bore the f*ck out of me too. Maybe it's Caleb's voice that still kind of appeals to me. Dan's voice does absolutely nothing for me. Honestly the recent music from both bands is pretty garbage overall but I enjoy some of Kings' older stuff that they still play live though. Ideally neither play but it just feels like such a Hangout thing to do.
I enjoyed both KOL and Black Keys. Prefer either to all of last year's Hangout Headliners. Given where Hangout is headed I could see a KOL (or equal pop rock), Britney Spears (or equal pop chic in skirt), Chance the Rapper (or equal pop hip hop) top three. They will all win major 2016 music awards, handprints in concrete, marketing and media, etc.
