I've seen 2 other threads on this, but it seems that they are dated from last year, with very little update. I am going to 'Roo from the Durham/Raleigh area and am flying solo! 25/f looking for a safe ride... or companion who can chip in on gas. I am debating as to whether I leave Wednesday night and arrive Thurs am.... OR (plan awesome) leave Thursday and catch The Hold Steady at the Grey Eagle in Asheville Thursday night, driving the rest of the way into Manchester after the show! The Hold Steady twice in one weekend?! And the Asheville venue is really intimate. So, let me know if you are interested in any part of this craaazzy plan! -L
Leaving from Apex NC and am driving/going solo. Let me know if you need a ride. I plan on leaving wednesday, heading to a bar or finding some early birds to chill with.
I play LOUD music at times. kick ass car stereo. I am a smoker(both). Don't speed. Tonnes of road trips under my belt.

Have room for one, in large truck w/ plenty of space for gear. Share gas.
We're heading out from Winston-Salem on Wed afternoon. Stop for overnight (free) outside of Asheville, then up early and in line at Roo around noon Thur. Head back Mon morning, straight though.
JimmyO and KellyO will be leaving Durham probably around 6-7pm Wednesday night.
Our plan right now also is to stop Wednesday night somewhere after Asheville (the halfway point) to sleep for the night.
We hope to get a fairly early start Thursday morning and hit Roo before noon (roon?).
Hey, do any of you other North Carolinians know the best route to take? Google Maps and Mapquest each give us different directions once we hit Western NC or Tennessee... I can't remember which is which, but one has us swinging pretty far north, while the other actually has us swinging pretty far south, and actually driving through Georgia for a few miles. Any insight? This is our first 'Roo AND our first year living in NC, so we don't really know our way around the state/south yet.

Ha, I live one mile from The Grey Eagle, but I'll be going early Thurs. to catch The National and setup and all. From Asheville, the best way to go is 240W-40W-75S-24W. You don't want any part of the more southerly routes; mountainous and slooow.
