Everything about this year's festival was fantastic and almost rivaled Bonnaroo for me, hopefully they can pull off another great lineup. I actually emailed them a few artist suggestions back in June and they mentioned in their reply that MMJ is a band they've been trying to get for a couple years, really hoping they finally got em for 2016!
Where do you live now? I drove over 3 hours from NE Ohio for NMF this year and it was so incredibly worth it.
Austin, TX. It's not really in the cards for me. But it is a fantastic little fest & is totally worth a 3 hour drive. Hell its worth a 5-7 hour drive depending on the line up.
whoa, where did you find this? Lineup looks really nice so far so I'll probably make the leap and pick up tickets, but I wish they had announced more of the headliners like they did last year. Also, guess I have to check out Randy Newman now (and Daniel Bachman)
Ooohh, I see All Them Witches on there. They've been touring hard and heavy this past year, thought they'd be taking a break, but I guess not. Hoping they get added to the Levitation lineup, or pop back up on Bonnaroo. They're in Europe during March, but would be back in time for Levitation.
Tickets are only $110 now, but will go up to around $120 when they officially announce the lineup later today. It's a great deal no matter what, but if you want to go I'd recommend picking up tickets within the next couple hours if you want the cheapest tickets

Could somebody please point me to whoever Randy Newman is? We can't possibly be talking about the same guy, but the googles isn't providing me with an alternative.

Thanks for posting about NMF 2016, I just noticed that the [preliminary?] lineup is up and was hoping there was something here. I'm sure I'd enjoy seeing Randy Newman, and All Them Witches look really good, but beyond that I hope the "many more to be announced" are good and indeed plentiful. Being the weekend before Bonnaroo might make this difficult for me this year though I thought it was an excellent festival last year.
Or does NMF and Bonnaroo being on consecutive weekends make it easier to go to both - just take 11-12+ days off in a row, then die of exhaustion after going back to work? I really need to take more relaxing vacations, or add recovery time onto the end. A 3-hour drive from Akron ain't that bad, and I can even work a more or less full week before leaving for Nelsonville, if I must. Might be a game time decision, like 2015. Hmm...
Are we seriously talking about the same Randy Newman? I swear I'm not kidding this is driving me nuts! The Guy who wrote "Short people"? The theme song to the TV show "Monk"? THAT Randy Newman, a rock & roll hall of fame inductee granted, that is the Randy Newman listed on the poster?

I just realized how close the dates fall to 'roo. That may knock me out as well, and Nelsonville has become one of my favorite little fests. Darn.

Regarding your first question, they still have the other 3 headliners to reveal along with 30+ other acts so I'm sure there's a lot of other great acts incoming. Next lineup announcement will be next week, hopefully they reveal the other big names then. Personally, I love that NMF and Roo are back to back weekends because I can just take a long vacation instead of two disjointed ones. NMF also isn't anywhere near as exhausting or overwhelming as Roo too, imo, which helps too.
Thanks for the update on the next announcement! If it knocks my socks off I still may try to find a way to go. As you said, Bikemail, Nelsonville is pretty easygoing and far less exhausting than 'roo, but I still find a way every year to drink too much Jackie O's.

I agree about NMF being much less exhausting, and the relative nearness helps a great deal. 2015 was my first time and the ease of the whole experience and laid back vibe really impressed me. And of course the lineup will look better when it is more complete. I can probably take the extra time off if I decide I want to, but the timing just makes for a lot of days away from home and nights in a tent over a short span. If the final lineup looks good and I can deal with having only two days off at home before Roo, I'm there - too much fun last year. mmm Jackie O's outside in the sun...
Of course I hadn't considered skipping either Thursday or Sunday (depending on the lineup), either of which would help a bit. I just like getting all that I paid for, but you can get your money's worth at NMF in 2-3 days.
Yeah. This is a nice add and it includes two artists I've been listening to lately. Courtney is my Unrealistic Creepy Crush of the MonthTM, but if I were into dudes Gary Clark, Jr might be. I'm still looking for a tiny bit more wow factor for NMF, but I'm getting excited. Now this damn winter needs to hurry up and get the hell out of the way, not that you Southern folk need to worry much about that! I seriously need to follow your lead and relocate to Austin, or somewhere else warmer with a good music scene like Nashville, or maybe even Dallas. Somewhere not too tiny, non-California cost of living, must have access to good music, Spring and Fall warmer than NE Ohio, and little to no snow.
Is Gary Clark Jr really bigger than Randy Newman? I've never heard of him besides here on Inforoo and I had no idea he was considered on the same level as Wilco, St. Vincent, Flaming Lips, etc. Also, I saw that he'll be the Friday headliner and Courtney will be playing Thursday.

Personally, I wouldn't think Gary Clark is on the same level, and I don't know that he has the same level of fan support as Saint Vincent or the Flaming Lips, but he is pretty incredible and his shows are awesome. Out of respect, I won't share my thoughts on Wilco. I'd go to NMF every year if they could book the Flaming Lips, but not for Gary.
Is he definitely a headliner or just one of the biggest names so far?

Randy's definitely the Sunday headliner and since Gary's ahead of him on the lineup and slotted for Friday I think it's safe to say he's a headliner. After looking back on earlier years he's probably bigger or as big as acts like Andrew Bird or Iron & Wine, I'll have to make a point of checking him out before the festival. Still hoping the other big headliner is someone like MMJ, The National, or even more unlikely, Sufjan Stevens, but as it stands this lineup is shaping up pretty well.

I have yet to make it to NMF, but have seriously considered it for the last 4ish years.
Gary makes for a weak headliner IMO, but at least it'll be a fun show. However, it seems as if there lineup as a whole is already beefier than in previous years. So maybe they're spending less on headliners and more on the middle card. That could be a good move for a small festival. I know I already like more bands on the lineup this year than I have liked total in many previous years. But I'd still like a big name of interest to grab my attention and make it worth a long weekend.
NMF has confirmed that Courtney's headlining Thursday, so that only leaves the Saturday headliner left to be revealed. Based on the headliners we know now, it looks like this year's lineup is going to be like 2013 or 2014 where the Saturday headliner is much bigger than the other headliners (Wilco and Avett Bros played Saturday).
EDIT: Holy shit it is....That is SO WEIRD!
No, it probably is more this Randy Newman:
Srsly, this guy is so much more than Short People and Toy Story. Give a listen to these.
