Last year I went to Floydfest for the first time. It is much smaller then Bonnaroo, about 12, 000 people, perhaps a lillte larger. It is also more family oriented with decent police presence. It is outside the small town of Floyd, VA., anout 117 miles north of Tennessee. It is one or two exits past the Virginia Tech exit off of I-81. They have announced some of the line up and I thought some might be interested. Greg Allman is main headliner. Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers will be there, as well as Leftover Salmon and Nahko and Medicine for the People. I saw Nahko at the Flood City Music Festivlal in 2014 and they did an outstanding job.

Went to Floydfest back in 2013, which was the most money they ever put into a lineup (The Lumineers, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit). It was the biggest crowd that Floydfest had ever had as well. Supposedly, the longtime supporters and locals didn't like how big the festival was growing, so management decided to scale back. The logic made no sense, but Floyd is a very tight-knit community.
Floyd is great little town (where I go to school is only 25 miles away from the area). The festival is far from the "bro crowd", very relaxed environment. The year I went they had very little security. I actually remember going in on the last day, nobody was even checking bags. I always thought the festival was a little pricey, but I enjoyed it the year I went. The festival is also family friendly.
Greg Allman is a nice headliner, Shaky Graves will put on a good show as well.

I was considering going and then I read that.
I wouldn't worry about security/police. The year I went, it wasn't noticeable at all.
The age groups that go to this is pretty diverse. From kids with the their parents, to high-school and college kids, and plenty in the 25-35 age area. It has a different environment compared to the major festivals where the vast majority of people that attend are between 18-25.

Well that's good to hear. I'm not really worried about the age groups, hopefully not a lot of strollers though.
