As someone who went to firefly last year I give you this advice. Don't go to firefly.
What was bad about it? Setting, sound, crowd, vibe, layout?
Sound is actually really good. The vibes were ok. My big gripe was with the water situation. It took some people hours to get water. It was very unorganized.

Okay, to be fair, you might just not have the info/context to know why we are judging you for contemplating FF when you could choose Coach or Roo (or others of merit, but those are the ones you listed) instead.
Setting: next to the NASCAR track in Dover, DE, and right by a huge highway...not the best setting, by any measure. My group had bought a Premier Camping pass last year (my one and only FF experience), which was extra money and supposed to secure us camping right by the festival grounds....but nope. The organization was terrible and when we arrived around 11 pm on Wed (premier camping was supposed to go until 6 am Thurs), we got put right near the highway and not in Premier camping after all because somehow they'd sold too many passes and it was already full. The festival grounds themselves are also fairly unimpressive - there's a forest path that's lovely, with lots of trees and a hammock section, but other than that? Just kinda boring field type setting, and when it rained...the mud was unbelievable.
Sound: actually no complaints here. I think one of the stages (one of the semi Main ones, I dont recall the names now...might've been the Lawn Stage?) had weirdly shitty sound in a few pockets but overall, sound was good at the stages. Sound bleed was a little rough from the Pavillon (where most EDM acts played) at times, but eh, wasn't too bad.
Crowd/vibe: pretty fucking terrible. On Thursday, I remember kinda floating through the crowd with my friend who had been at Roo in '14, when I went too, and we were trying to interact with people etc. No one seemed interested in talking to anyone outside their group/clique. No one was dancing weirdly or being silly. My friend and I were like, "well, this is certainly a change from Roo..." Tons and tons of fucked up teens, everywhere. Distinctly less respectful and less spacial awareness than most people I interacted with at Roo. Every show I went to had someone near-ish to me carted off for being too messed up. It was excessive, and kind of everywhere you turned.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

The whole thing was unorganized, or just the water? I don't like a disorganized fest... And I am assuming you mean free water refill stations...not bottled to buy. Anything else suck about it? Anything else good? Did you camp?
Oh yes, and the water. It seemed their primary concern was trying to sell water bottles and make money rather than keep people hydrated and, idk, alive and well.

Thanks for the good info. I was thinking about FF because it is close to me (I live in NJ)...I could drive and take my camping stuff. And the lineup is decent (not great but not horrible...similar to Roo last year). I really wanted to go to Hangout again...went last year and had a good time (Foo, Beck, MMJ, Skrillex, Major Lazer, Spoon, DBT, Alabama Shakes, TVOTR...good lineup last year and it is on the beach) but was unimpressed with this year's lineup. Different vibe from Roo definitely but it was fun.
Nothing kills a fest buzz for me than bad organization. Bummer about your camping experience...and yeah, I expected the setting not to be awesome since it is a racetrack. And "first time drunks" are big time buzzkill. Good to know. Thanks again.
Voodoo did something similar a few years back. They released one artist a day during the summer, it did not go over well with the online fans, to say the least. People were losing their minds. And whenever an unknown undercard act was announced people would just shit all over them, demanding headliners or just bigger name announcements.
It sounds cool in theory, but when people are trying to make vacation plans it's difficult to commit without knowing all the artists you could potentially catch.
But they weren't even consistent about it. Nobody knew when the next name would drop, or who it was 90% of the time. It was an epic fail and I am still pissed about it. In fact, we started a private voodoo forum the year that happened, because there was also a troll that was saying he worked for live nation and would list all these names that everyone knew wasn't on the lineup. Voodoo not only has never done anything like that since, but they turned off wall posting and you can only comment on their posts now. It was that big of a fail and they caught that much shit.
hahaha I remember that troll. then someone tracked down the guy whose picture he stole. what was the troll's name? it's on the tip of my tongue but I can't remember.

Tim Wilkerson (or something similar). Our group name is INT (I'm Not Tim). Yeah what a putz. The person that tracked it down is my boy Jeff...or maybe Jamie. But our group was the one that busted his catfishing ways. And I think that this girl Wendy in our group actually found the real Tim and let him know and met him and shit. Internet people can be weird. lol
I went this past summer but only because logistically it was Firefly or no festival at all for the summer. Also, they had Macca.
But for this year? You might choose FF over Coach or Roo?
Not really. It's gonna be either Roo or Coach, and then one other maybe. What's so bad about FF?
Honestly the only thing I think Coachella has over roo is better weather/nicer scenery. Coachella is very overrated in my opinion. No late night, Only allowed to drink beer in gated areas, terrible people. I went in 2014 and was severely underwhelmed. Maybe I was wrong in expecting it to be like roo but all i know is they wouldn't let Outkast perform a minute past Midnight.
I kinda like the blams but I'll be on a flight Tuesday so I'll probably won't be able to watch anything they do unless it's late east coast time
I think the best blam since i've been going to roo (2011) was the video they did with Hanniball Burress. I honestly didn't think the one with Weird Al was that bad either. Anything besides what they did last year
I am not a fan of a drawn out release, or the out of the blue release either. I do like some good teasers, like the roo clues. I thought the Gov ball crossword puzzle was a good idea, but it was a little too vague (too many possible answers). I did really like the Osheaga app game that they did last year. That was fun. But mainly I just want a straight forward release, early in the day so I don't get too keyed up and can't sleep

Just to join in on the Firefly hate, I went in 2013 and would never even consider going back. Organization was terrible, the crowd was a horrendous combination of drunk teenagers and rampaging dudebros, just awful all around.
On the second morning, we were on a bridge crossing over Route 1--a fairly busy highway--and a guy next to me opened a can of beer, took a sip, and threw it into oncoming traffic. The crowd went wild.

It's that kind of festival.
Wow...good info. Thanks for sharing. That is why I love inforoo...
